|Luke stared back-and-forth in abject horror at Vestara’s remains, suddenly in four smoking pieces strewn across the hangar deck. Slowly, his expression turned to stone.|
“Jaina,” Luke’s voice was low but intense. “You just killed an innocent Sith girl. That is not the act of a Jedi.” As he turned to face his niece, the temperature in their vicinity dropped near the freezing point.
“You are no longer welcome in the Jedi Order.” The statement was flat but the sentiment hid a deadly threat. “You are barred from the Temple and every other Jedi facility in the galaxy.”
Jaina smirked. “May I go to the bathroom now?”
Luke’s eyes blazed. “How dare you mock me?” He took a step toward Jaina and bumped into something invisible.
“I don’t mock you, Luke,” Jaina's lie sounded almost casual. She was exerting very little effort to keep the Jedi Grand Master at bay. “And you have sorely underestimated the abilities I have developed over the last few years.”
Luke appraised her silently for a moment. “My order stands. You are no longer a Jedi.”
“Oh, yeah? Well, you CAN’T throw me out of the Order because I QUIT.”
Jaina Solo had finally reached the breaking point. It was time for her uncle to hear the words she had bottled up for so long.
“What did you expect me to do with the Sith who was trying to get into your son’s pants? You’re the one who told the whole galaxy that I’m the “Sword of the Jedi”," she feigned a haughty expression as she uttered the loathsome words. "So I used my sword in a totally appropriate manner. Would you mind telling me why it had to be me who saw her for what she really was and did your dirty work for you - again?
Come to think of it, the stronger I get in the Force, the more you manipulate me and the Masters into doing all of your dirty work for you.
Because you don’t want to do it yourself any more, do you?
Look at the facts, Luke. You were directly responsible for the deaths of your step-parents. Then you killed your own father and his life-long mentor who might as well have been your grandfather but, oh yes, you didn’t have a grandfather did you?
You sent my little brother to his death at Myrkyr when you knew he was too young to go on such a risky mission. But he was brave and innocent enough to want to please you.
Then somewhere along the way, something changed.
You couldn’t face killing family any more. So when Jacen went space-crazy, you made sure that I was the only one positioned to go after him. Not only did you give your blessing, you helped me kill my own twin brother!
And you think that I - JAINA SOLO - am not worthy of being a Jedi?
HA! You are such a fool and I've been one to have followed you for this long," Jaina's eyes narrowed. Momentarily distracted, she whispered, "If only you knew how many booty calls you've cost me over the years..." Jaina reined in those random thoughts. Concentrate!
Her voice steeled as she resumed.
"Jacen may have killed your wife but the Force – whatever part of it you subscribe to – helped him do it. Your beloved FORCE, Luke. Ever wonder why it keeps taking the ones you love most? Why a Sith girl was trying to seduce your only child? Or why my parents, Allana, and I are the only other family you have left?
Why have you spared us so far, Luke? Is it because you still might need us to do unspeakable things for you?
Well frack that, frack you – and frack me! The next time you see me I’ll be in an Imperial uniform, have a wedding ring on my left hand, and you’d best be behaving yourself because the Empire is going to take over the galaxy again. Mark my words.”
Jaina turned on her heel but hesitated. She didn’t turn around.
“Luke? One more thing.
Your son is a moron.”
