Title: Dark Horse New Comic Announcements
T'Keira Lea - January 25, 2011 03:30 AM (GMT)
Dark Horse Original Announcement: Special announcement for Star Wars Friday! Next week we will be debuting images of a brand-new series, featuring one of the most beloved-characters in the universe. The series will be written by a well-known creator who hasn't worked within the universe for a few years, and will be drawn by an artist coming to Dark Horse for the first time. Any guesses as to what it will be?

I feel the need for a disclaimer coming on here. Please be advised, I was not consulted on the "beloved" wording. I'm not saying it's wrong, but I'm betting "beloved" not the word that will come to mind for the majority of fans when they find out who it is. For some it will be, sure. But for most -- though they may love the character -- other words will seem more appropriate.
You'll see. |
So maybe not so beloved of a character. I went from excited it might be something fun to fearing this is JarJar. Wanna bet a total fanboy wrote that original announcement. This should be interesting.
Chimpo - January 25, 2011 08:00 AM (GMT)
It's also a character from the movies.

Sounds like someone we love to hate. I'm going to guess maybe Tarkin?
oldjedinurse - January 25, 2011 08:05 PM (GMT)
Lando.
Wasn't he included on some DR marketing list with the Big Three as "beloved", or something like that? We discussed that...recently...in some thread...somewhere...
T'Keira Lea - January 26, 2011 02:24 AM (GMT)
I thought Wedge or Lando until RS hedged. Now I'm betting Imperial...or Mando
oldjedinurse - January 26, 2011 12:14 PM (GMT)
I think Wedge truly is "beloved", so he doesn't count. You may be right, though. It probably isn't Lando - I just threw him out there because I can't think of anyone/thing else. :p
ccp - January 26, 2011 05:57 PM (GMT)
Prince Isolder, H/L fans love to hate him, and there is actually a lot of unseen back story with the assassinated brother the time with pirates and the assassinated fiancé.
oldjedinurse - January 26, 2011 06:08 PM (GMT)
Huh. Never thought of him. Good thinking.
Chimpo - January 26, 2011 06:29 PM (GMT)
Isolder was not in the movies.

So yesterday when I went to the comic shop to buy Legacy War #2, I got there about 4:00 and got the last copy of Legacy they had. But there were six copies of Darth Vader and the Lost Command #1 still sitting there.
Good job, Dark Horse.

New comic series announced --
Qui-Gon and Xanatos backstoryUh... meh.
T'Keira Lea - January 28, 2011 01:20 AM (GMT)
Beloved, uh never saw that coming. Yeah he's beloved but I would have thought Qui-Gon would have been off-limits. I've always liked him.

| At some point I should probably mention that I have been trying to get this story off the ground since 2003 (which was when the painting of the couple with the swords and the glowing ball of Force energy was commissioned from artist Rudolfo Migliari)... |

Nice article from
Comics Books Resource with John and Jan.

Okay, this is news I just got.
Dark Horse is doing a Lost Tribe of the Sith series with JJM writing and Andrea Mutti, artist.
millernumber1 - May 4, 2012 04:43 PM (GMT)
Because we needed more stories starring Sith?
(Though thanks for the heads up. I'm just really, really bitter about all the Sith stories.)
Shinar - May 4, 2012 04:50 PM (GMT)

I wonder if Star Wars: The Old Republic can get part of the credit for that. I hear Sith is the more popular faction (most of my friends are playing Sith unfortunately, that's one reason I refuse to touch that game).
millernumber1 - May 4, 2012 04:52 PM (GMT)
Hmmm. Good point. I am probably going to play a Sith because of my friend, but having watching playthrough vids, I know you can do so as a lightsider, which I think is both fun and hilarious.
And since I'm the one who keeps going around saying "Troopers are popular now because of TOR," mayhaps you have a point too! :-)

Dark Horse instead of wasting time on boring stuff should give back JJM his KOTOR ongoing series. That was a great series. Invasion was crap.
Darth Lex - May 4, 2012 06:43 PM (GMT)
Just moving this news over here.
And count me in for "meh" as well. I didn't care for the ebooks; I don't think a comic story will be any more interesting. :p
Synlah - May 4, 2012 09:23 PM (GMT)
Thanks for moving that, Lex. I wasn't sure where to post it because I'm still finding my way around this forum.
And I like this. I liked the Lost Tribe because they weren't your typical Sith, and their accomplishments did not match their egos. I honestly found it very amusing in FOTJ because they were all so "We'll stomp the Jedi because we're so badass. We're Sith!" And then the Jedi would hand them their heads.
I'm a very visual person, so I'm going to enjoy seeing the Lost Tribe and Kesh images.

After excessive delays in the word finally coming, Dark Horse announced their latest new comic today at WonderCon (via
Roqoo Depot): an 8-issue story, "The Star Wars," based on George Lucas' early ideas that after much development ultimately became ANH. On Facebook, Randy Stradley
described it as an "adaptation of George Lucas's 1974 screenplay."
Bleeding Cool has some images of the slides from the presentation. Apparently it starts in September.
My first reaction is that early concepts and first-draft scripts get radically revised for a reason. :p But I guess I'll see what more we hear about this story as we get closer.
