On Patrol With The Apprentices, Anyone Can Come!

Redstar led the way down to the Stepping Stones, his small patrol consisting of two Apprentices hopefully following him. He glanced behind them, worrying gently. He hoped that nothing bad happened while out here, because they were still a little young. Barely over seven moons, he realized. They needed to get their mentors, too, but because of the shortage of mentors currently, he had trained them both a little bit. He sat down and waited for Flarepaw and Sandpaw to catch up with him.

Sandpaw scampered after her temporary mentor, paws itching with anticipation. Since it was leaf-fall, the water looked cool; possibly even a bit icey. On a warm, greenleaf day, she would've jumped in the river, but the temperatures forbid it. She looked at Redstar, her eyes gleaming with their usual mischeivous shine. Sandpaw looked around, to see if the clean-freak had followed.

Flarepaw followed after her leader and her friend and sat down at the edge of the river, staring tantalizingly at the the first stepping stone. She looked up at Redstar, her eyes pleading. "Can I jump on it?" She asked, her paws itching to pounce onto the first stone. "Please? She could be persuasive at times, she knew.

Her friends question had spurred Sandpaw on. Without asking, she leapt easily onto the first stepping stone. The cool liquid washed over her white paws, sending a chill up her spine. Sandpaw grinned at the other two cats, leaping onto the second stone before looking back at them once more. It was as if she were daring Flarepaw to follow her.

Redstar nodded at Flarepaw, then watched Sandpaw go on ahead. He laughed, despite himself. "Well, I'm glad you listen to instructions, Sandpaw." He said, but in a good-natured sort of way. He didn't care. He was about to jump onto one himself.

Flarepaw giggled as water splashed her face, then she smiled at Redstar. "Thanks." The calico purred, and pounced onto one behind her friend. She shivered as a spurt of cold water chilled her, but it was fine.

IC: Sandpaw bounded to the next, then to the next. She looked up, seeing ThunderClan territory. She gazed at it a moment, before doing a series of more leaps. On her last bound, she was standing TC Territory. Sandpaw felt moss under her paws, warming them somewhat. Oh, what a bad idea.

Brightstar was out on patrol with Cometfoot at her side. She spotted the apprentice, lopeing forward, leaving Cometfoot in her dust. She let her gaze fall on the other two. A calm air was about the leader, though her face was flustered. And why are you here? She uestioned in her smooth tone. Redstar. Brightstar greeted the other leader. She sat down, simply wanting an explanation.

Redstar stiffened, calling out to Sandpaw. "Get back here!" He hissed, and then sighed when Brightstar emerged. He too crossed over and sat on the last stone, right at the end, and flicked his tail with annoyance at Sandpaw. "Come over here." He said, trying not to be angry with the young Apprentice. Then, he looked up at Brightstar. "We're just on a patrol on the Stepping Stones, and Sandpaw here went a little too far. No big deal, Brightstar." He said, his eyes narrowing slightly. Brightstar was one of the youngest leaders, he knew, and wondered how she would react.

Brightstar glanced down at the apprenitce, though no glare or malevolent gleam was in her eyes. Very well. Just try to not let it happen again. She said, but stayed her ground. She was waiting for the RC patrol to leave, and be out of sight before she left. It was not that she didn't trust them, it was just she didn't trust them much.

Sandpaw's vivid eyes suddenly lost their liveliness, all shining vanishing. Tail low, the young she-cat slipped into the chilly water, the apprentice being soaked to the bone. Her slender tail was now bristling at the coldness, though her expression on her face was placid. She knew she was to be punished. Probably have to get the ticks out of the elders' fur with that disagreeable mouse bile. Once out of the water, Sandpaw looked like a rag; her fur was heavy on her, and she looked suddenly weary.

Redstar watched Sandpaw with a sharp eye, then turned and looked at Brightstar. He would wait for her to leave, too. He was standing on his territory, after all, and she was getting too close for his comfort. He turned and crossed the Stepping Stones and sat on the other side, waiting. "You two go back to Camp. Sandpaw, go into my Den." He added with a frown.

Flarepaw, while the Leaders had been talking, had run back to their side of the River and crouched there, shivering with fear for Sandpaw. She didn't want her friend to get into trouble. When Redstar came back, she sat up straighter, keeping her gentle blue gaze tenderly on the she-cat.

Knowing Redstar had been leader longer than her, therefore knew more than her, Brightstar retreated further into her own terrtory; she had gotten close, but one of his apprentices had actually crossed the border. The she-cat bounded into some bushes, her flicking tail tip the last thing seen of her. She didn't explode with temper like some leaders would have done, which did show some pluses to the older leader; that was good. Brightstar was a bit irritated, because Redstar had given the impression that he thought that she was going to go in RC territory. Cometfoot had left also.

The soaked, forlorn apprentice sauntered off, to RC Camp. Her tail and head were both low, her steps seeming to be in slow motion. The peppy, eager apprentice was gone, a seemingly depressed one replacing her.

Redstar's eyes became dilated again as Brightstar left, then he watched Flarepaw and Sandpaw trot back to Camp. He sighed, wishing that this hadn't happened. He hated seeing Sandpaw upset like that. Following them, his tail dragged in the dirt slightly.
