Beneath the base of the log, a silver tabby she-cat slept. Her small frame twitched, violet eyes closed, as she dreamed. It was not a pleasent dream, from the anxious twitches of her pale paws, or the uncomfortable bristling of her striped pelt.
Shardstar opened her eyes to a small clearing. It was misty and covered in shadows. She narrowed her violet eyes to see clearly through the mist. Then, she saw a figure striding through the pale, ghastly air. He appeared with a high head, slitted blue eyes prideful. It was Marinestar, the former leader. Shardstar dipped her head and raised it to meet his eyes. "Yes, Marinestar?" she inquired cooly.
The orange leader let out a caterwaul. Instantly a avalanche fell from the air, missing Marinestar and Shardstar. Then the air was thick with ashes. Shardstar shook her eyes to clear them, and Marinestar spoke.
"Beware the ashes. They are a problem, but as the thrush flies they are useless."
Shardstar blinked as she listened to his words. With a flick of his ginger tail, the tom dissapeared, and Shardstar was left in darkness.
