I'd like to know what's become of former Icehogs players. I figure you guys have the scoop over hockeydb with regard to some players.

And of course we know what Oak Hewer, J.F. Rivard, and Dan Davies have been up to.

John Glavota's a General.

Vince is a Jackal, along with Ryan McIntosh.

...And Jenn can probably tell you where Donnie Margettie is at any given moment :-Þ

You are NOT going to believe this!

First Mark Bernard, former IceHogs coach and current head coach of the Basingstoke Wella Bison, loses Ronnie Vogel to the 'Hogs.

Then he lost his starting goaltender.

You're not going to BELIEVE who they signed!!

(Let me just state up front that it smells satirical.)

OK...this is a joke, right?

I mean the way the press release was written, it seemed very satirical - Mark Bernard signing as goalie of the Basingstoke Bison, the team that he has coached since parting company with the IceHogs.

See, they lost their starting goalie to another team, then this press release comes out stating that they signed Bernard as their new goalie (for the uninitiated, Bernard was a goalie before he became a coach; in fact, he is in the hockey hall of fame for having four assists in one game).

Something seemed off by the way that it was announced...and add to it the fact that I did not read it anywhere else.

But then I go to the Bison website, where it lists the recaps from the games...

And I find this.

According to the recap, Bernard started in net (and even received a 2 minute minor for slashing).

So either:
1) Coach Bernard really DID sign on to goaltend for the Bison;
2) They signed someone ELSE named Mark Bernard, and were being intentionally deceptive about it;
3) The joke is on us and it's becoming more and more elaborate!

yeah i would have to say that my favorite players from last season would be.....
Eric Labelle ( wub.gif ) i loved watching him play and the few times that i was able to talk to him i enjoyed very much. he was never afraid of the puck, he always jumped in when it was needed the most. if your a hogs fan i dont need to tell ya bout his fights. LoL, i hope he does very well up in Hersey.
Jason Ralph (cool.gif) i am glad that he still wears a hogs jersey. he is becoming a more aggressive player and he always did great last season and doing great so far this season. Still a hog!
Steve Pelletier ( biggrin.gif ) no matter what he always plays a great game. and he always has his "bling, bling" on...LoL, still a hog!

keep up the great work hogs.

That's odd...

According the AHL and Hershey's websites, LaBelle hasn't been playing any games.

I saw that Eric Labelle is supposed to be in the lineup this week as he's coming off of the I/R.

QUOTE
Labelle Assigned
North Charleston, SC  The South Carolina Stingrays Head Coach Jason Fitzsimmons announced today that Eric Labelle has been assigned to the Stingrays by the Hershey Bears and Mike Brown has been recalled by the Providence Bruins of the AHL.  Labelle is expected to be in the line up tonight for the Stingrays when the team hosts the Charlotte Checkers.  Brown’s call up makes room for Goaltender Davis Parley, who was acquired by the Stingrays for Joel Irving yesterday.

Labelle played last season for the Rockford IceHogs of the UHL and Milwaukee and Utah in the AHL.  In 67 games with the IceHogs, Labelle had ten goals seven assists and 390 penalty minutes. He has not played for Hershey yet this season
.

Kind of puts a damper on our Christmas trip to see Mr LaBelle vs the Chi-Wolves unless his stint is more of a conditioning/rehab (such as when Kotyk was sent to us last season) and will only last a few games.

OK...this is a joke, right?

I assure you all this is no joke!

Not only did Mark jump back into the nets a couple of weeks ago to dig the club out of a great big hole when our THIRD netminder this season left us in the lurch, but on Saturday night, against arguably one of the biggest, hardest-hitting teams in our league, Mark scored his second career goal. The goal was an empty netter scored, unbelievably, with just 00:00.01 seconds left on the clock (that is point nought one of a second and not one second).

The place just went wild because Mark is so well respected by just about anyone who knows him - even the opposition fans were on their feet applauding as if he was one of their own and everybody wanted to shake his hand in the bar after the game.

After scoring he passed the puck to his Mum & Dad who were lucky enough to be at the game - apparently they missed his last goal which was scored on 27 March 2001 for Toledo Storm against the Johnstown Chiefs. In Mark's team that night were Shawn Maltby and Ronnie Vogel, and playing for Johnstown was one Jim Shepherd who is currently in Mark's Bison squad as is Shawn Maltby.

Bernie's stick is already in the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto from when he scored a record 4 assists in 1997, coincidentally playing against the team he is now coaching and backstopping and he joked about scoring a goal way back then!

So as I said at the top. I assure you all, Mark being between the pipes for us is no Joke! He takes his job most seriously indeed!

Is it a bird... Is it a plane? ohmy.gif biggrin.gif

Kelly Miller has now signed with the Fort Wayne Komets per news release on their website.

Don't know how to do the link thing, but it's at www.komets.com/press/120705.htm
