Title: UHL IceHogs Memories

pigsnpucks - March 19, 2007 07:26 PM (GMT)
As we are reaching the end of an era, this thread will be strictly for those who want to share any memories/anecdotes from the UHL era of the IceHogs.

What are some of your favorite memories?

Please keep non-related content out of this thread. Much appreciated.

So many great memories for me over the years, but the one that stands out the most is Watson's pass from behind the net to Harrison to win the series against Kalamazoo on home ice a few years back. Simply the most exciting moment I have experienced for this team.

That's just the one I was thinking of, too.

I don't have any specific details on it, cuz i don't really remember who it was, but I definately remember it happening. It might have been against Kzoo, one of our guys passed it in front of the net and a player from the other team was right there and just hit it in. I think i laughed for about 20 minutes.

Martinson's first year - first game against the Mallards - IceHogs won 8 - 2.

Revenge is best enjoyed when the duck is ice cold.

actually it was 8-4. but halfway through the game it was 8-2. I had so much fun.

Barber's Shootout Goal

Doesn't work for me... was that the one that flew up in the air and then landed like 10 seconds later? Haha that was awesome.

I have thought long and hard about this and there are so many great moments from every year it is hard to pick just one or two. And to try and list all of them would take too long to do.
So i will say that my best memories are a compulation of all things from great players and coaches too bad players and coaches. You need to have some bad so it makes you appreciate the good. There have been so many shutouts, great stops, power plays, shootouts, fights and break aways that have thrilled me all these memories will be with me forever. Thank you to all that have given their Blood, Sweat and Tears to keep us fans on the edge of our seats. I will sum this by saying the BEST thing the UHL has done for all of us is bring hockey to Rockford.

I will add that all the fans at the games and on these forums have and will continue to add to the enjoyment of Hockey in Rockford.
Thanks Everyone.

I don't even remember who the IceHogs were playing. But, Jeff DaCosta's game tying goal with less than 1 second left in the game is one of the most memorable moments for me.

I don't remember the opponent for sure (although I think it was the Beacons) but I remember it was a sunday afternoon game and DaCosta scored with .07 seconds left on the clock. What an awesome moment!

Two of my absolute favorite "extra curricular" events:

Ronnie Vogel laying the smack down on the Komets Kelly Shields then wiping the blood from the cut above his eye and licking it off his hand as he skated past their bench.

:excuse the run on sentence: JC Ruid pulling the glove off of a Danbury player and throwing it into the stands (to my friend) who in turn threw it to a fan (down by the glass) who taunted the Danbury player with it (as he begged to get it back) and then proceeded to throw it way up top into the uppper bowl. The crowd went crazy! Followed by Chris Toltzman asking "would the fan that caught the Danbury players glove please give it back" followed by a cop walking it around the walkway carrying it as if it was a diseased rat.

HogHockey - March 21, 2007 01:10 AM (GMT)
I believe it was towards the end of the third season of the IceHogs when we were getting beat and beat up. There was about three minutes left in the game. One of the Hogs players just got pasted. There was a face off and the Hogs made a line change. Steve Dumonski pulled on of the Hogs that went over the boards back to the bench and he went out. Dumonski gave the coach a look like "try to stop me." He went to the face off circle next to the opponent that pasted the last IceHog. Dumonski asked "do you want to go?" The opponent agreed and Dumonski kept punching the guy and would not let him go down. After the opponent couldn't stand up, Dumonski let go, the opponent fell to the ice, and when Dumonski skated by the opponent's bench, he made the championship belt motion. Needless to say, all the hitting by the opponent's players stopped.

Well, I don't have any memories from long ago like most of you long-timers here... I have only been "fan enuff" for a couple years or so.

But anyway, my favorite IceHog memories are:
-Motor City goaltender Rod Branch gets pissed and breaks his stick on the goal posts as the Hogs lead the onslaught of goals on New Years Eve 2005.
-Whoopin' the Mallards 7-0 last year at the BOB
-A 3 game road trip with Mr. and Mrs. KMC and Gluvsave. :freak:
-Watching the Hogs and Wings go to a 13 round shootout in Kalamazoo
-Ulanski's shootout goal on Jersey Auction Night
-Meeting new IceHog and hockey fans. Thanks everybody!
-Welding over 200 cowbells for the booster club.

rdgamblr - March 21, 2007 02:25 AM (GMT)
While it most of the individual moments i can remember have been posted.

Espically the .07 sec game where we scored multiple time with very short sub1:30 left int he game my best moement was a series of games.

The end of the 01-02 I believe season when we had no shot of playoffs and went on that run at the end of the seaosn with some nobody players as a few of the guys, Checco, Dumonksi, couple other i think 4 all together had been in a car accident on the way to a game so we finshed with guys who were playing for the love of the game. We ended the season beating teams and playing 100% effort.

That was the time i can remeber being the proudest memory of being an icehogs fan. As that is what minor league sports are supposed to be all about.

So many memories in 8 years.....I will never forget the Brawl against quad city the 1st year where Kevin Holiday got sucker punched at the end of the 1st period and everybody was fighting....one of the best brawls I've ever seen.....I also can't forget the best hit I ever saw, (which was the 1st year also) a dollar beer night against the Madison Kodiaks where some guy got destroyed at center ice and they hauled him off on a stretcher....the best live hit I've ever seen, as that guy was lucky his head didn't get taken off.........And I will never forget each jersey auction, as I come every year for a jersey (even though I have lived in Pennsylvania for the last 4 years) in order to give back to the community I grew up in, and realize what a great hockey experience Rockford has been to me, even though I no longer live there. You don't realize what you have until it's gone, and I truly appreciate every Hogs game that I'm able to see when I come home for an extended weekend.

Greg Barber scored the GWG that sent the Komets home last season, effectively knocking that monkey off our back that we had to carry from the prior play-off series.

Sorry, Timmy!

You know my biggest memory of the ice hogs has nothing to do with the game of hockey but of the fans. I remember my very first game. It was this year. My family and I decided to go watch a game and WOW!! We were hooked! I love hockey, but the Ice Hog fans made it exciting. We haven't missed a game since. I guess if I had to think of a memory, the first one to pop n my mind was this year against the mallards. We weren't even 2 seconds in to the game and had 3 fights! My personal favorite is when my 2 year old daughter walked into a store and yelled "your goalie sucks!" at the lady working there!!!!

GO HOGS!!!

A couple of years ago when Jeff Antonovich (spelling?) was in a breakaway 1 on 1 with the goalie (team I do not remember) & skated directly in front of the goalie & stopped to score from behind his back. I have never seen that before live at a game....what a goal! Would love to see a video of that again!

I've missed one game in four years, although I'd forgotten about some of these moments. Thanks for bringing them up again, folks!

About our fans: Last Sunday, my girlfriend invited some friends of hers from Fox Lake, IL, to the game. It was their first ever Hogs game. During an intermission, both of them mentioned how rowdy, yet behaved, the crowd was. A few days later, I find out the husband of this couple wants to buy season tickets for next year. His wife reminded him that they will be moving 2.5hrs away from Rockford, instead of the hour-or-so they live now. A different ticket package may be in the works for them.
My point is, the Rockford fans have been great! They are one of the reasons why I started liking hockey, too. Keep it up people, next year when the A games start!

KMC1230 - March 23, 2007 03:54 PM (GMT)
 He thought Sunday's crowd was rowdy? There was only 500 people there, and one really annoying guy shouting like an idiot thoughout the whole game.

I think I'm missing something KMC. There were 3,046 fans in attendance on Sunday, March 18.

Does anyone remember the game against the Otters (during the NHL lockout season) when we had a power outage? It took forever for Uncommonly Wealthy Edison to get the lights back on and many people had already left but the fans who remained were treated to a heckuva hockey game.

dnewsman - March 24, 2007 05:05 AM (GMT)
I remember Power Outage II, also.

gluvsave - March 25, 2007 07:52 AM (GMT)
ok here's one for ya'

Last season on the Raptors opening night the IceHogs were playing in Muskegon. As you would imagine there was a fairly decent number of cross over fans in attendance. Since the (then) Raptors owner wasn't "IceHog friendly" (a miscalculation imo) they didn't announce what was happening in the 'Hogs game. So we took it upon ourselves to broadcast the information as it was coming in via text messages and phone calls from friends. We went up and down the stairs and all around the arena telling other IceHog fans that we were beating the Furbies handily. At one point the lady sitting across the aisle from me overheard us and asked what the score was. During the intermission to the Raptors game she stopped at my seat to tell us that she was going out to her car to listen to the "Hogs game as the Raptors game was "boring" (which I had to agree-it was). Anothor hog fan had brought a radio and was listening and giving hand signals to let us know that one of the Fury players had cheap shotted one of our players and ignited a line brawl. When the IceHogs game was finally over (and we were feeling all warm and fuzzy from the IceHogs huge win) we were able to devote all our energies to watching and cheering for the Raptors. It was a good night and a fond memory (for me).

The come-from-behind games we've played against Fort Wayne - one last year, one this year - both on Wednesdays. We went down by two or three goals, only to come back in the end and win.

Harrison's goal from Watson to eliminate KZoo... Bruce snatched the puck from Joel Martin and Terry knocked it into the empy net... Most memorable is Jason Ralph presenting the autographed puck to me in the locker room after that game...Craig and I had T-shirts made from that memorable on ice celebration photo!
