Movies! Music!, Best places to go?

Seeing movies at the movie theatre and going to concerts are two great ways to unwind, have fun, and take a little break from everything else you have going on. But you may think that, because you're "on campus," you aren't close enough to any concert venues or movie theatres to enjoy this. But it's actually super easy {and quick, and cheap} to do both! What places would you recommend for movies and music, and how do you get there when you go??

For movies I LOVE going to The Charles Theater. It is a gorgeous historical building about a block away from Penn Station, so it is super easy to get to (Just take the Hopkins Shuttle!).
The Charles is also great because it often will host special film series and always has a diverse selection of movies.

The OTHER reason that I LOVE the Charles is that it is right next to Sofie's Crepes, an amazingly delicious creperie! So pre or post (Or both!) you can stop by and have a fabulous crepe. yummmmm

For movies, I would definitely recommend the theatre in Towson, especially for current movies. It's a regular movie theatre, so a lot of movies will be playing right when they come out. There's also the Rotunda, although the movies there are very limited, and I've never actually been there myself. There's also the Landmark movie theatre which is in the Inner Harbor, going towards Little Italy. All are easily accessible via Hopkins and/or Collegetown Shuttles (and the rotunda is within walking distance!)

As for music, I like to go to Sonar, although there are a few shows I want to see at Ottobar as well. Ottobar is definitely closer, however Sonar is a few blocks away from Peabody and can be easily accessed by shuttle. I'm biased and prefer sonar, but there are other locations as well where you can go for live music.

For larger concerts, check out Rams Head Live! or the Pier Six Concert Pavilion.

Smaller places: Ottobar, Sonar, Talking Head Club (which is adjacent to Sonar), The Hexagon

For movies: The Charles (especially for independent or art house films - although it does carry some bigger features), The Rotunda, The Senator, Landmark - Harbor East, AMC Theater in Towson, AMC Theater in White Marsh (a 30-45 min drive, but they have a lot of midnight showings before big films as well as an IMAX Theater), The Hexagon (smaller venue - has things like 16mm revivals of classic films), Baltimore Museum of Art (adjacent to campus, screenings of video art or artistically significant films), and The Patterson (down by Patterson Park, features local filmmakers and obscure films)

I think that's most of 'em.

I haven't been there myself (yet), but a friend of mine loves to frequent An die Musik LIVE!, which is on Charles Street at the southern edge of the Mount Vernon neighborhood.

There are definitely movie theaters and concert venues (Power Plant Live, Bourbon Street) in Baltimore, but there are also many other places to go in neighboring cities. The nice part about the area is that it doesn't take long to travel to a neighboring city in Maryland or even to Washington, D.C (by Amtrak or MARC trains). A number of major concerts take place in those cities, if not in Baltimore, so there's a good chance that whichever band/artist you wanted to see would be touring somewhere accessible from campus.[FONT=Arial]

Just to reiterate Becca's point on Baltimore's proximity to DC...
Just a few weeks ago I took the MARC train to DC to see Sondre Lerche play at the 9:30 Club. Since the MARC goes from Penn Station in Baltimore to Union Station in DC, it's super easy and convenient to just hop on a train and take the metro to one of DC's many concert venues.
