My Confrence With Skirmish

So, a lot of you saw my letter to Skirmish on facebook. Basically, I was just so fucking fed up with the game that I decided never to play there again. But I'm a reasonable man, so I decided to give them a chance to fix themselves.

They responded to my letter and this morning I had a 50 minute phone call with Terry, the field manager. This is the results:

- Terry took responsibility for the hopper tape, and said it will never happen again.
- He is working on a way to supervise his refs to make sure the medic refs don't amble away, and that they stay near their designated spots.
- I mentioned to him the idea that refs could wear numbered jersies so that players could complain or compliment them accordingly and the word would get to scenario management about who was good and who wasn't. Terry liked the idea, but suggested nametags instead. Either way works.
- Only top end refs are allowed to be tank refs now.
- Next ION, he is going to try and put up snow fencing along the common illegal insertion routes.
- He seemed interested in the idea of expanding the fields for larger games like ION. For instance, to include the airfield and maybe more fieldspace.
- He likes roleplay, and says he wants to expand on it to give the community what it wants.
- When I mentioned 3rd entity, he understood my gripes. He said he personally didn't like the Tyrell/Krupp arrangement and hinted that the French would be the only 3rd entity next year. Possibly with their old ninja powers.
- I suggested having survey cards after the games, and he liked this idea.
- I told him we would like to see more mission variety, and he said he was working on that. It's just difficult getting those to work out on a larger scale.
- He said that the paint thing was largely unavoidable. They're working on it as best they can, but he pointed out all it takes is 10 cases of defective paint floating around ION and suddenly everybody thinks everybody is shooting hot. Which is true.
- I mentioned the idea of also using the back fields for ION and possibly vice versa. To be specific, I mentioned maybe having an American boat attacking Tippman Castle and calling it Point Du Hoc that could be worth some points or upgrading something. He said he liked the idea, but it would have to be cleared with the generals first.

Keep in mind that this is only his 2nd game as the main guy. He says he's looking very much for feedback from the community and if you have suggestions about missions, roles, etc, he actually really wants to hear them. He also has to balance depth against sheer numbers... he told me BFB and Stalingrad have more potential to be more roleplay oriented then say, ION, which has 2.5 jillion players.
