Organised crime link to Leiderdorp deaths

Friday 6 February 2009

Two men found shot dead near a pancake restaurant in Leiderdorp on Thursday were both underworld figures who were well known to the police, the newspaper The Telegraaf reports.

One man has been identified as Boneka Belserang who had served a five year jail sentence in connection with a shooting in the garage of Amsterdam nightclub The Ministry in 2005.

Two other men connected to the shooting have themselves been recently murdered, the paper says.

Belserang is also suspected of shooting a former policeman turned crook,Martin Hoogland,in 2004.Hoogland was killed while he was on leave from an open prison. He had been jailed for 20 years for killing drug baron Klaas Bruinsma and another man.

The local Dutch media doesn't really report about foreign gangsters.Even about Curtis Warren, who also lived in the Netherlands, the media didn't report about. The Dutch media only reports about gangsters who commit domestic crime. The Irish/English/Scottish don't bother about the Dutch market,so they are not interesting to the Dutch media. But there are and have been Irish/English/Scottish gangsters involved in the Dutch underworld.

Friday June 20 2008

FEUDING gangster 'Fat Freddie' Thompson fled Dublin today amidst his vicious feud with INLA leader Declan Duffy.

Thompson and 19 of his henchmen boarded a flight to Riga this morning. All were heading to the Latvian capital to attend a stag party.

However, Thompson may use the opportunity to lie low in eastern Europe to avoid constant threat on his life here.

Gardai in the capital are on constant alert as the Duffy and Thompson gangs try to take each other out.

The Herald revealed yesterday how gang members are all wearing bulletproof vests and travelling in three-car convoys.

His departure comes as the turf war between himself and INLA leader Duffy ratcheted up tensions in the capital.

More armed officers were ordered onto the streets of the capital yesterday after a spate of violent incidents involving gun and knife attacks.

In one incident, an armed man walked into a bookie's shop in Dublin and said he was looking for Freddie Thompson.

In another incident, an associate of Thompson's was stabbed in the face. Duffy was arrested but released after the victim withdrew his complaint.

Shots

A black VW Golf GTi was shot up on Galtymore Road in Crumlin. Three shots were fired, according to witnesses, but gardai have since been unable to find the car involved.

Speaking of the highly volatile feud, a garda investigator told the Herald: "Everybody is predicting that by this time next week either Freddie or Duffy or both will be dead."

Gang members were travelling in convoys of cars with the leader in one car and armed men in other cars or on motorbikes.

"If they bump into each other there will be wholesale violence. We just hope a member of the public does not get caught up in it," said one source.

"If the gang members are stopped, the car or bike with the gun will peel away or be warned in advance of the checkpoint."

Fears that innocent members of the public would fall victim to a major eruption of violence were expressed by senior officers who said the situation was "getting out of control".

Garda Commissioner Fachtna Murphy ordered officers to undertake intensive patrols and "in your face" policing to prevent further violence.

Why o why do the Guards/police bother in telling these guys they are under threat?

.....................................................................................................................

More than 100 criminals in Dublin have been told by gardai that their lives are under serious threat.

Garda Headquarters has advised officers to tell the criminals they are likely to be shot.

It’s an extraordinary state of affairs linked to vicious feuding between gangs in the city.

Indeed the 100 criminals reffered to here are only in one part of the city - the south inner city - and one feud in particular.

The 100 does not take account of criminals warned about threats to their lives in other parts of the capital.

The threats mostly arise from the ongoing feud between INLA boss Declan Duffy and drugs trafficker Fat ‘Freddie’ Thompson.

Detectives believe a consortium of criminals have raised €40,000 to have Thompson eliminated.

Officers also suspect that a gun and motorbike are in storage for the hit.

In an incident yesterday afternoon, gardai were called to a popular bar in south central Dublin and told two masked men had been searching for Thompson.

"They were seen acting suspiciously in a white vehicle, both were wearing balaclavas. Then one got out and went into the pub," said a source today.

"He simply asked, 'where's Freddie?'," the source said.

In the meantime, gardai have also thwarted two attempts to get an AK47 into the city for an assassination attempt on Freddie Thompson.

Gang members linked to both Thompson and Duffy have been told to take precautions because their lives are under threat. Most are living in the Crumlin/Drimnagh areas or Tallaght.

"More than 100 different people have been advised that garda intelligence has deemed that they may be shot. They have been told that criminal elements are going to have them shot," said one senior officer today.

Of the 100, most are linked in one way or another to the Duffy/Thompson feud.

Others are linked to the ongoing Crumlin/Drimnagh feud, which also involves Thompson. Ten people have already been murdered as part of that feud.

Those under threat have been told by the gardai to:

l Vary their habits.

l Change their routine.

lCheck their cars every morning.

l In some cases, change their car.

l Advise their employer/ employees.

l Don't sit with their back to the door in pubs.

The Garda Special Branch and Organised Crime Unit, both based at Harcourt Square are on a state of high alert over the feuds. Intelligence has shown that €20,000 has already been raised for the attempt on Thompson's life, with a further €20,000 to be paid over if it is successful.

Detectives are also investigating reports that an armed and masked man walked into a south city centre pub yesterday looking for Thompson.

Thompson is already the subject of threat from a rival south city gang unlinked to the feud with Duffy. Thompson is said to have poured two pints of lager over the brother of the leader of the other gang in an incident in a Temple Bar nightclub earlier this month.

On the other side in recent times, Duffy's home has been shot up two times.

The Herald revealed two weeks ago that an attempt was made to run him down two weeks ago. The driver of an Alfa Romeo car mounted the footpath in a bid to mow down Duffy close to his home in the south inner city. He only managed to save his life when he cowered in a doorway.

Leader

Duffy is the leader of the INLA in the capital and also runs a security company.

He has fallen foul of a number of criminal gangs in the capital, particularly the outfit run by drugs trafficking suspect 'Fat Freddie' Thompson.

Detectives believe either Thompson's gang or a group of criminals based in the south inner city were behind a shooting at Duffy's mother's house more than two weeks ago.

Real IRA man's brother arrested in Lithuania weapons sting

guardian.co.uk
guardian.co.uk

Jan 22, 2008 19:00 EST

The brother of a Real IRA leader is one of two Irish citizens detained in Lithuania on suspicion of buying a large quantity of firearms and explosives for the dissident Irish republican terror group.

Prosecutors in the Lithuanian capital, Vilnius, announced the arrests today after a lengthy "sting" operation in the city.

Irish security sources named one of those involved as Michael Campbell, 36, from Upper Faughart, Dundalk, Co Louth. His brother Liam has served two prison sentences for Real IRA activities.

A woman was the other person being held after the operation by Lithuanian police, the Garda Siochana and British security services.

Lithuanian police posing as arms dealers met with Campbell and the woman in Vilnius on Tuesday, the sources said.

They allegedly sought arms destined for a breakaway faction of the Real IRA, which has divided into two rival groupings.

The Real IRA faction allegedly involved is run by Liam Campbell, who has strongholds around Dundalk, south Armagh, Derry and Cork.

In recent months his group has been trying to restart its terror campaign and has targeted Catholic recruits to the Police Service of Northern Ireland for assassination.

The group's Derry unit was responsible in November for the attempted murder of a Catholic PSNI officer taking his son to school. The target, Jim Doherty, survived with multiple shotgun wounds.

The faction is estimated to have around a dozen members, but among them are experienced terrorists from the Provisional IRA.

Following Michael Campbell's arrest, Irish police carried out searches last night in Dundalk and along the border with Northern Ireland.

Four years ago, Michael Campbell was at the centre of a Real IRA cigarette smuggling racket worth millions of euros. Police raided warehouses in Holland and the Irish Republic. Campbell was found guilty of cigarette smuggling by a Dutch court and jailed for four months in the Netherlands.

Over the last decade the Real IRA has sought to buy weapons in the former Soviet bloc and the Balkans. Eight years ago it was caught in a sting in Croatia trying to buy rifles, explosives and rocket launchers.

The Real IRA killed 29 people in the 1998 Omagh bombing and has refused to disarm following the Good Friday Agreement of 1998.

Extra surveillance for Dutch mafia trail

AMSTERDAM - Populist newspaper De Telegraaf reports that there is extra surveillance around "the bunker" in the west of the capital.

The case is one of the most extensive in Dutch legal history. Eleven suspects are standing trial for their part in a series of notorious liquidations between 1993 and 2006.

The huge trial is the result of years of investigations, based on statements by crown witness Giuseppe 'Peter' la Serpe.

La Serpe was a member of the underworld for several years and admits being present when underworld property developer Kees Houtman was murdered in 2005.

According to De Telegraaf, extreme measures have been taken to protect the crown witness, as there are serious fears he could be murdered.

The trial is expected to last a year.

Real estate businessman Peter "Fat Peter" Petersen was murdered yesterday in what appears to be a gangland killing. Petersen was a close friend and associate of hashish dealer Kees Houtman who was murdered in 2005. Houtman was extorted by crime boss Willem Holleeder who was convicted of this and other crimes last year. According to statements made by Houtman before he was killed by two assassins was that he and Petersen were being extorted by Holleeder because they had tried to buy some property formerly owned by murdered property tycoon Willem Endstra. Associate Thomas van der Bijl even told police they should try and get Petersen to become a witness. Van der Bijl was himself murdered as well by gangland assassins.

Notorious Dutch drug trafficker re-arrested
Published onFriday, 06/12/2009 - 12:29

Dutch police have re-arrested a notorious drugs trafficker. Charles Z. was picked up on Thursday in a large-scale operation by the Dutch national police against the trade of soft drugs. Police searched several premises in the Netherlands simultaneously.

Charles Z. and his girlfriend Scarlet D. are suspected of laundering 1 million euros. The drug dealer was overpowered by a special squad on a parking lot next to the A1 motorway between Apeldoorn and Amersfoort. Scarlet D. was picked up in Spain. Ten other people were arrested.

A 53-year-old former racecar driver, Charles Z. is also suspected of managing the large scale exploitation of cannabis plantations. The police uncovered eight of his cannabis plantations last year. Earlier, he served 5 years in prison for drugs trafficking. In 2005 he was sentenced to pay back 22 million euros; money he earned through illicit practices. The Dutch public prosecutor suspects that in the same year Mr Z. ordered 1 million euros of criminal money from Luxembourg bank accounts to be paid to a race team in Indianapolis.

Belgian, Dutch authorities break up major drug cartel
Belgian and Dutch authorities said on Monday they have broken up a drug cartel operating out of villas on the border between the two countries after a three-year investigation.

Eco vouchers will soon be available in Belgium

BRUSSELS - "This criminal organisation was one of the top five drug trafficking networks in Europe," said spokeswoman for the Belgian federal prosecution Lieve Pellens.
Using information from an agent who infiltrated the gang, 12 searches were carried out on Sunday in Belgium and 17 in the Netherlands, Pellens said.

Four Dutch citizens and one Belgian were arrested at a barbecue in a luxury camp-site at the Belgian town of Lommel, near the Dutch border. One Dutch suspect was later released.

Seven arrests were also made in the Netherlands.

Pellens said that in the Netherlands the gang used real estate agencies and car rental services to launder money while using their proximity to the border to remain undetected by Dutch tax authorities.

She said the group was "responsible for exporting a lot of different drugs to Britain, such as hashish, amphetamines, cocaine and ecstasy."

Arms, antiques and a Mercedes worth 340,000 euros were found during the searches, although no drugs were uncovered.

"It's not surprising, these people don't keep drugs at home," Pellens said.

She said authorities had in recent months seized drugs related to the case worth 40 million euros.

Italy: Drugs worth €20 million seized at Rome airport

Rome, 20 August (AKI) - Italian police have seized 55 kilogrammes of cocaine at Rome's Fiumicino airport with an estimated street value of 20 million euros. In an operation dubbed 'New Orange', Rome police and customs officials arrested 14 suspected drug traffickers who allegedly hid the drugs in the lining or false bottoms of their luggage.

The operation was dubbed 'New Orange' because the alleged drug couriers all come from Suriname, a small Dutch-speaking country on the north coast of South America.

Police launched the investigation last February after the arrest of seven alleged drug couriers, all from Argentina, who were to have continued their voyage to Amsterdam and Brussels.

Investigations revealed several links between these arrests and the same drug cartel with branches in South America and northern Europe.

Police estimate the cocaine could have been divided into 600,000 doses with a street value of more than 20 million euros.

Officials from the Italian interior ministry's anti-drug unit and police from other countries were also involved in the operation.

Customs officials identified another seven couriers, three of them were intercepted at Zaventum airport in Brussels.

Dutch police arrest 20 cocaine smugglers 23/04/2010
Dutch police have detained 20 people for smuggling cocaine in containers for in-flight meals and waste on planes flying between the Dutch Antilles and the Netherlands, police said Thursday.

"Twenty suspects have been arrested over the last four months in the Netherlands and Bonaire," an island territory of the Netherlands Antilles, Schiphol airport spokesman Robert van Kapel told AFP.

The last two suspects were arrested on Tuesday.

Eleven of the 20 suspects worked for a Schiphol-based company catering for airlines.

Investigators found that the cocaine was hidden in food and waste containers on Netherlands-bound planes.

Police seized more than 50 kilogrammes (110 pounds) of cocaine, with a street value of two million euros (2.6 million dollars), and tens of thousands of euros in cash during 11 searches in the Netherlands.

Twelve of the suspects are Dutch nationals, aged 25 to 49, the spokesman said but did not give details.

UK hunt for Dutch mobster

By SIMON HUGHES
http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/...C-RSS&ATTR=News

Published: 26 Jul 2010
A SUSPECTED crime boss dubbed "The Fleeing Dutchman" and accused of ordering SEVEN contract killings is feared to be on the run in Britain.

Dino Soerel, 49, also allegedly behind shipments of cocaine, heroin and cannabis to the UK, has quit his Amsterdam base and is known to have links to Manchester.

Cops in Holland have asked Britain's Serious Organised Crime Agency and Interpol to help find the gangland "godfather".

It is thought he may have disguised himself with plastic surgery.

A British police source said: "We understand from colleagues in Holland that this is one bad man.

"We're told he doesn't shrink from violence."

Crime boss arrested in Amsterdam
Saturday 28 August 2010

One of the Netherlands' most wanted men, Dino Soerel, has been arrested in Amsterdam, police said on Friday evening.

A helicopter and police marksmen were involved in making the arrest on the busy Rozengracht in the capital late on Friday afternoon.

Soerel, who was sentenced in absentia to eight years in jail for drugs smuggling last year, is a known associate of crime boss Willem Holleeder, currently in jail for blackmail.

According to the Telegraaf, Soerel's name has also come up several times in a major ongoing investigation into gangland killings known as the Passage case.

The trial of 10 men and one woman charged with at least seven murders started in the high-security court in Amsterdam in 2009.

Underworld boss shot dead in Amsterdam
Monday 21 February 2011

A suspected gangland boss was shot dead at close range in the Amsterdam suburb of Watergraafsmeer on Monday.

According to the Telegraaf, the victim was Stanley Hillis, known as the Ouwe (old one), who has spent the past few years living abroad. In the early 1980s he made a couple of spectacular prison escapes.

The paper says Hillis had connections to many of the capital's most notorious criminals, including Willem Holleeder, Mink Kok, Dino Soerel, Sam Klepper and John Mieremet.
