Ventidue condanne all'ergastolo sono state inflitte dalla Corte di Assise di Siracusa a conclusione del maxiprocesso scaturito dall'operazione antimafia 'Santa Panagia' che ha visto alla sbarra oltre cinquanta imputati. Tra gli imputati condannati al carcere a vita c'è anche una donna, Gioacchina Costa.

ex deputato regionale Pippo Gianni doveva morire nel lontano 1992. La sua morte era stata richiesta dall'ex assessore municipale Angelo Carpinteri, al reggente per Priolo del clan «Urso-Bottaro», Domenico Gala. L'agguato non fu portato a compimento perchè il killer scelto dal reggente, si era confidato con Francesco Pattarino, che, a sua volta, aveva immediatamente informato sia il capo del clan Nardo sia lo stesso ex deputato. Il boss di Lentini, di fronte all'arrogante iniziativa di Mimmo Gala, avrebbe poi preso la decisione di farlo sopprimere, dando incarico sia al siracusano Alessandro Greco che al villasmundese Sebastiano Gigliuto di eseguire la spedizione punitiva. L'omicidio di Gala, infatti, poi fu effettuato nel mese di luglio 1992, all'interno del camping «La perla del sud», ad opera di due killer, mentre il pentito Sebastiano Gigliuto non riusciva a far parte del commando a causa di un contrattempo che lo aveva fatto arrivare al camping immediatamente dopo l'uccisione del priolese.

dell'agguato mortale ai danni di Antonino Sapienza, riferendo una circostanza raccontata dal pentito Pattarino: sia lui che Nardo con le rispettive consorti si trovavano a cenare presso il ristorante del pittore Pippo Bertoni e, alla comunicazione dell'avvenuto omicidio, il boss lentinese avrebbe ordinato lo champagne per brindare alla riuscita della spedizione punitiva. Nello Nardo ha però negato il brindisi ed ha spiegato alla Corte che non avrebbe mai cenato assieme a Pattarino, in quanto non lo aveva mai stimato. Anzi, ha attribuito al pentito il brindisi, citando la dichiarazione del collaborante Caruso. Il processo proseguirà il 21 marzo prossimo.

Latitante arrestato a SiracusaSIRACUSA - La squadra mobile di Siracusa ha arrestato il latitante Giovanni Latino, 51 anni, esponente di spicco del clan Aparo. Giovanni Latino e' stato condannato per associazione a delinquere di stampo mafioso nel processo ''Gioconda''.
