From checking out the site it seems that it has already been released and is making the rounds at film festivals in Italy.

April 11, 2009 was the third anniversary of the arrest of Provenzano. In my opinion this event is certainly the one and the most determinent day in the history of the fight against Cosa Nostra. In the years that followed, there has been many arrests of key members and lieutenants closed to Provenzano, murders and defection, etc. I just wonder if the Provenzano's arrest has created such a chaos within Cosa Nostra that, as of today, the organization still feels the setbacks of it. Time will tell.

I don't see real chaos or power struggles like in the first two big mafia wars.

It is indeed amazing to see all the top mafiosi who have been arrested since Provenzano. I think these arrest must've created chaos within Cosa Nostra's ranks. Yes these men can be replaced, but their replacements many times will not be of the same caliber.

There also is an important symbolic meaning of the Provenzano arrest: no one is untouchable. After Provenzano's 40 years on the run Cosa Nostra could claim to hold amaziung power, after his capture there was doubt about that power.

Right on, David! And I think this is, (I hope) that it was that message it was sent to others that cosa nostra as a criminal organization is not above the law. It is important that the society gets this message.

Same thing here in Montréal with the Colisée operation takedown against the Rizzuto family. With the top hierarchy behind bars for several years Canadian police have sent this message : We are watching you all time!

ciao amici

i am back and have missed much! anyway, this is interesting. The Provenzano arrest....had the time come for him to .....move on? Yes, his work for the mafia post Riina was indeed a much needed steady hand, but every dog has his day, and perhaps Binnu's day time was up.

i agree, these days of communications etc it is very difficult to relay and move info and bodies without giving anything away, however, that can also work to advantage if the information is 'mis'used correctly, but this requires the mafia being on the side of technophobe, and i am afraid Binnu was out of time on that, however, i am sure the way was smoothed for succession, and the many, many arrests? well, this might be the way of the new order, or not, at this time, we do not know, so perhaps the authorities are not privy to as much 'relevant' information as they think they are

i cannot see how it was possible for the octopuss to carry on its international operations in the form it had maintained for many years - yes, things did change, but any real loss of identity or indeed strength surely was because of a need for a radical change which could not have been possible - the mafia does not quite operate like a multi-national company, and such a vehicle itself would have a problem adjusting

perhaps we are seeing the evolving of a 'new' mafia and although some of the events might surprise us, again, it's business, but not as we know it, but we going to see some changes continuing i am sure - no war, but people gotta know where they stand or they will be on their way either permanently or by way of the authorities. who makes these decisions, as yet we do not know, but in time no doubt, things may become clearer...or not

just a few thoughts friends

buona fortuna

Italy: Top Mafia fugitive 'betrayed' by boss

Palermo, 5 Nov. (AKI) - Jailed Italian mafia boss Bernardo Provenzano betrayed the "boss of bosses" Salvatore 'Toto' Riina by revealing his hiding place to police in 1993, it was claimed on Thursday. Massimo Ciancimino, son of Vito, the former mayor of Palermo, made the shocking revelation to prosecutors in the Sicilian city.

"It was Provenzano who indicated the exact area where Toto Riina was then arrested," Ciancimino said.

According to a reconstruction by investigators, this fact would link Provenzano to the treaty that Ciancimino claims that the Italian state made with the Sicilian mafia or Cosa Nostra after the brutal murders of the antimafia judges Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino in Sicily in 1992.

In the latest development Ciancimino said that Giuseppe de Donno from the antimafia police, sent Vito Ciancimino maps of Palermo, while police were trying to locate Riina.

According to the information Massimo Ciancimino has given investigators, his father asked him to make two copies of the maps and one was delivered to Provenzano, then a mafia fugitive, whose codename was "Mr Lo Verde, the surveyor".

Ciancimino said the map was returned by Provenzano who indicated the precise location of Riina's hiding place.

Riina, who was born in the Sicilian town of Corleone, was arrested in January 1993.

Also known as The Beast, Riina was tried and convicted of over a hundred counts of murder, including sanctioning the slayings of Falcone and Borsellino.

In October 1993, nine months after his capture, Riina was convicted of ordering the murders of Vincenzo Puccio and his brother Pietro.

He was sentenced to life imprisonment.

Provenzano spent four decades on the run before he was arrested in 2006. Informants claim that after Riina was captured and jailed for life, Provenzano succeeded Riina as head of the Sicilian mafia until his arrest at a farmhouse near Corleone.

While we wait for Ciancimino, Jr., to back up his claim about Provenzano, allow me to present my proof that Junior is the Pee Wee Herman of Sicily.

$A1.15b seized over Mafia links in Italy

August 14, 2010

AFP

Italian police on Saturday confiscated 800 million euros ($A1.15 billion) in cash and property belonging to a Mafia-linked businessman in Sicily, a statement from the Carabinieri paramilitary police said.

The money and property were frozen following the arrest of one of Sicily's most successful businessmen, Michele Aiello, 56, who has since been jailed for 15-and-a-half years for Mafia activities, fraud and corruption.

Aiello was notably involved in real estate and health care, and was linked to the Mafia group of former Cosa Nostra chief Bernardo Provenzano.

The seized property included 250 million euros ($A357.83 million) from several bank accounts, an oncology centre in Palermo, six healthcare and eight public works businesses, as well as land, apartments and vehicles.

About 400 people employed by the seized businesses now pass into the hands of the National Agency for Seized and Confiscated Goods, which was set up at the start of the year.

I wonder if that transfer of ownership provides better job security?
