That's weird. I just read about a game called Abraham Lincoln Must Die (I think it was part of Sam And Max)

Anyway, I am downloading The Painted Darkness by Brian James Freeman from Wowio.com's Book of the Month thing. I found a link to it on CNet's Five Friday Deals page.

http://wowio.com/book-of-the-month

The book isn't out, but the eBook is free. It's a horror novel with positive reviews from what I heard.

The PDF File is 3.35 MB according to my computer. Check it out if you want something to read that's free. I read pretty slow, so discussing the book will take a while to get to, but I will discuss it.

Edit: After reading this post, I'll just leave it to the Tech thread "iPod Touch / iPhone Apps", but I'll be reading:

The Iliad
Alice's Adventures in Wonderland
The Oedipus Trilogy
The First Men on the Moon

But first I'll read The Painted Darkness as soon as I get it on my iPod.

Just read the first half or 2/3 of the book last night and finished it today.

The Painted Darkness is the first real book I have read in months (the last being Harry Potter 2). Needless to say, this easily held my interest and only took a break to get some sleep, which the book made me hold off for 2 or 3 hours.

The story is about a guy named Henry, who's alone at home while he's trying to paint. He paints to keep his fears and horrifying dreams at bay. The story though goes through two stories. One of present day, age 25, and one of a 5-year-old Henry's experience. The two stories are told at the same time, but not hard to keep apart. The chapters are cut in half, instead of intertwined, but the way they add them to each other is very well done.

The present day story is a bit slow but written well enough. The past story is a lot more interesting with more stuff going on.

The only thing I didn't like was the monster and parts of the ending, but it still kept me engaged.

For those that want a quick read on a "horror story" for this month (It's October), then check this book out. It's free on PDF Format, but I have an epub format which works with iPod Touch if you want that version.

For the PDF format, to read on a computer, laptop preferentially, go to Download The Darkness site, or directly to Wowio's Book of the Month Page.

For the ePub format, I can send it to you or just upload it to my forums and link it. Just let me know if you want that version in PM.

I've been trying to pick a book to read, but I just can't get into anything right now. The only thing I'm reading is The Walking Dead comic series. Still early on in it.

Is that what AMC's The Walking Dead series is from? *reminds me to see if the show's started yet*

I'm currently reading The Scarpetta Factor by Patricia Cornwell

It is. I think it starts on Halloween, or close to it.

Edit:

After watching the Lord of the Rings again, I've decided to re-read the books, starting with The Hobbit.

The book I'm reading, Long Lost by Harlen Cobin, is very good, but I just found this link, http://pages.simonandschuster.com/rotandruin/ It's a book called Rot And Ruin by John Maberry, and for a limited time, you can read the first 100 pages free. It's a zombie novel. I'm going to give it a try.

Haven't re-read The Lord of the Rings yet. Instead I read some novels based in the Warhammer Fantasy and 40K universe again. Got a couple free off of the publishing site as they are making digital books and I've read one out of the three I have (one of them is a collection of short stories and I'm in the middle of one).

After watching The Walking Dead I decided to buy a few more of the comic collections of the series so I was reading a lot of them today. Bought too much of it so I'm waiting a week or so before buying a few more. All on my iPod, heh.

Will probably finish the short story I'm on and go on to a new book in the Warhammer 40K universe that involves a group I haven't read much about, the Imperial Guard I do believe.

The Island of Dr. Moreau. Reading it pretty slowly, but I'm liking it. H.G. Wells is freakin' awesome.

Just downloaded the complete works of H.P. Lovecraft. Most of these I'm downloading just to say I have them, but I'll try to read as many of them as I can. Starting to like reading again. [:

Also, for books on .epub format, which works with iPod Touch / iPhone, go to epubbooks.com. Tons of public domain books there, where I got about 90% of my books (up to 99 before the Lovecraft stuff).

Installing Calibre will allow you to read basically any format books, so you can read them on your computer too.

(sry just trying to promote more ways of reading the past few weeks).

I'm going to see what's it like reading from the computer with Rot And Ruin. If I like it, I'll buy the book for the rest of the novel. But basically, I like the old fashioned way, making myself comfortable in a chair or sofa, holding a book.

Just finished the latest issue of The Walking Dead. I spent way too much today, over $70, on just Walking Dead comics. Really should not do that again for a long, long, long time.

Outside of that dumb move, the comics were great. Not going to say anything besides this: Nobody in that story is indeed safe. If the tv series can follow the plot and respectively cover who lives and dies from the comics, I have to say this series will be quite epic and will have the chance to last for many seasons. I'll have my fingers crossed, that is for sure.

Now I have to find something else to read dry.gif
Especially one that doesn't cost anything...
So back to Warhammer novels!

I wanted to ask this for a few days, but I didn't know where to ask, so I'll ask here.

Is there anywhere to get the Halo books for free in epub format?

Still reading Dr Moreau. The main character is trying to figure out if it's the same Moreau that he read about a while back on medical journals.

I started The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers a few days ago, and to my surprise... I can't wait to pick it up again. I never had that feeling when I was reading The Fellowship of the Ring. That one felt more like a chore, like I was only reading it so that I could say I've read the books....

Is currently at this very moment started reading Serenity: The Shepherd's Tale. It's a comic from my favorite television show and it's movie adaptation that finally reveals the secret past of Shepherd Book. I've forced myself to stay away from anything that could reveal his past before I read this many weeks after it came out. Now I will know his secret!!!

Also, been off and on (when I'm not gaming) reading another book in the Warhammer Fantasy universe. Got it for free so whoot! It's about a woman who makes a living stealing from corpses on a battlefield and ends up doing some heroic things she never wanted to do, or at least what I've read so far.

I'm at about 75% through The Island of Dr. Moreau, and it's finally getting good, but so anti-climactic (sp?) with even that good part. I don't know if I'd recommend it anymore. After this, I don't even know what I want to read. Looking for To Kill A Mockingbird after talking to Aja about it for a little bit and my sister telling me it was really good when she read it in school.

I think I'll look for The Grapes of Wrath by I think John Steinbeck. Think he wrote The Pearl which I liked and heard Grapes is better.

I'm kinda taking a break from novels until after Christmas. I'm getting a lot of books then and there are several I really want to read over what I have right now.

I am however continuing to read and re-read comics. Been re-reading Scott Pilgrim and The Walking Dead, but I just found a new comic series that is interesting.

It's Marvel 1602, which is the Marvel Universe as if it was in that year. Has a very strong Assassin's Creed feel to me (probably due to the fact I'm playing the original right now).

So far several superheroes have appeared. Daredevil, Spider Man (though he doesn't seem to have powers yet just a strong interest in spiders), the X Men, Nick Fury, Dr. Strange, and a few others I don't recognize. A few aer referenced such as the Fantastic 4 (though it looks like they possibly could be dead), and Dr. Doom.

I'm on the second issue out of 8 so far, so who knows who else will show up. I wonder if they could do Captain America. That would be interesting to see the twist on that.

Reading 13 1/2 by Nevada Barr. It starts in the past, introducing some characters(one of whom is an 11 yr. old who killed his parents), and now it's in the present and somehow they come together.

About halfway through Warrior Priest. It is a Warhammer Fantasy novel. Sadly it isn't as great as other novels I've read in that universe and similar.

The main character who I'd like to see the world through is not the point of view of the story. Instead it is several minor characters who aren't that interesting or are bad guys. Hopefully this changes or the characters get more interesting later on.

Halfway through Armor by John Steakley. It's not Warhammer related, finally something new!

It's a sci-fi book I saw mentioned in an anthology about Power Armor either by the person covering it or by a commenter. It's 3 stories set in the same universe. I think the first and the third one I haven't gotten to involve the same character, but the second one which I'm on is quite different. All in all pretty good.

Can't figure out what I will read next. It is either going to be another Warhammer 40K book that I got for Christmas, or I might re-read books by Orson Scott Card. Either the Ender Series or the Empire series, not sure which.

Been reading two books on and off:

Erich Von Danikan - "Chariots of the Gods?"
Louisa May Alcott - "Eight Cousins"

Was told to read the second one and still near the beginning chapters and Chariots I'm about 40% of the way through. Loving Chariots. It's about Ancient Aliens and stuff which last year became one of my favorite things to read / hear about.

After about a month or two of not reading anything outside of school work, I finally started reading something. Yet another Warhammer 40K book. Black Tide by James Swallow. Currently it is the last Blood Angel's book out that I'm aware of. Only started it today, so not far into it.

A while ago I finished reading the Ravenor: The Omnibus by Dan Abnett.
It is another Warhammer 40K book that contains three novels and two short stories about the Inquisitor Ravenor and his band fighting against Demons and those that worship them. Was fairly enjoyable, though was difficult to read at times when the point of view shifted to other characters as well as go from first to third person. Yet that fits a little bit due to the fact Ravenor is crippled, but his mind and psychic powers are strong, allowing him to see through the eyes of almost anyone and sometimes even control their body.

Then I read Blood of Elves by Andrzej Sapkowski. It is the first novel (and only novel translated to English so far) of the Witcher saga, the series that inspired the two Witcher video games. It was pretty great, and I'm sad that I'll have to wait until March to read the next, even though the series was finished around the millennium (I may be wrong on that fact).

Just a few days ago I started reading Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin. I finished it about twenty minutes ago. Was a fantastic book. He had a crapload of characters, but he still managed to balance them out and I was able to remember most of them.

So as of right now I'm starting the next book in the series, A Clash of Kings.

When I finish this series, I'm thinking I'll do some Sci-Fi. Got the entire Foundation series by Issac Asimov sitting on my dresser.

I also have some heavy reading for school this semester. I have a Early British Lit class. We've already read Beowulf, and I'm going to have to read all of another story before Tuesday.
I also have a Intro to Lit Studies, where we're going to read two novels, two or three books of poetry, and two plays (one of them a Shakespeare one). Currently reading Haroun and the Sea of Stories by Salman Rushdie, to be done by tomorrow. Of course I haven't read more then ten pages yet, shame on me.
The next book we're to read is Extremely loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer, which has a movie coming out about it sometime soon I think.

I've heard about it since my high school days, but only just got around to reading the Dark Tower series by Stephen King.
About an hour ago I started reading book 4, Wizard and Glass.

I'm pretty sure these are the first books by Stephen King that I've read and I'm definitely enjoying them.
