"As a rule, I've never been fond of working with a partner on anything related to the guild. I find it more hazardous to my health then being alone. I don't like having to watch the person who is supposed to be watching my back, while at the same time trying to do my job."

Most would be offended by the implied distrust communicated through Vadeem's statements and serious glare, but Narvaeria was not bothered at all. He was right not to trust her. She wasn't a loyal person at all, and if Vadeem dared to have any faith in her ability to be compassionate or dependable, he would be considered an idiot. Therefore, his comments only received a barely detectable grin that made Vaera look more flirtatious than suspicious.

Vaera followed Vadeem into the store casually, only meeting the eyes of the few people she saw for a brief moment before scanning her surroundings as if she found them interesting. As Vadeem continued to explain himself, she listened carefully but did not interrupt. After all, she wasn't looking for a philosophical discussion that was bound to become a heated argument. She only wished to speak when it was necessary to get him going again.

"It's good to have someone to talk to or simply share a meal with."

Still doing her best to ignore any bitter feelings, Narvaeria adopted an almost innocent expression and added, "Yes. . . it is. Having someone around to distract you can be good on long assignments."

. . . of course Narvaeria went a little bit farther than Vadeem when looking for these distractions. She wasn't exactly one to keep apprentices.
