Adie walked through the royal gardens as the bright sun shined down on her fair skin. Her skin had an almost glowing affect to it. She rarely was ever in the sun for a long period of time. She knew if she did she would burn. She was getting close to her limit. Her dark brown hair blew in her face lightly as the cool breeze whistled through the garden.

Adie reached up and brushed it out of her face and behind her ear. She brushed her fingertips on one of the roses. It was soft against her skin. She smiled as she continued to walk.

She loved coming to the gardens at the castle. She didn't come often but when she did it was always a treat. She was usually too busy with taking care of her father to take some time for herself. But today was one of the days where she could enjoy herself. Of course, she wouldn't completely enjoy herself. Since she'd be worried about her father in the back of her mind. But she would enjoy it enough.

It had been a long time since she'd had the time for herself. Her father had fallen ill several months ago and she of course decided that she wanted to dedicate herself to taking care of him. He objected to it but Adie refused to listen to him. But today, a family friend was taking care of her father. Lenora had told her that she needed a break. A young woman like her shouldn't be cooped up in the house taking care of her ill father. Adie didn't argue with her since Lenora was like a mother to her.

The breeze blew a little harder which caused Adie to shiver a bit. She reached up and rubbed her bare arms. She was now wishing she'd brought her cloak with her. She looked up at the clear sky and closed her eyes. She enjoyed the warmth of the sun of her face.

[I edited Adie's profile a bit. Just to let you know. And sorry of the title...I couldn't think of anything else. lol]

Laisera strode out into the gardens, annoyed. What a waste of time that meeting was! There was no good reason for her to have even journeyed here and missing the after-marriage party of Keelie. All the stupid lord had wanted was to ask her to lend money from bankruptcy. Well THAT was never going to happen. Did he not bother researching and knowing that all the Hensen money went to looking after her mother in her age?

She forced herself to calm down, she now had nowhere to go and might as well enjoy the fresh air and beautiful gardens of the castle before she left. Stepping out of the musty corridors was always a relief.

It was a good time in the season to come. The roses were in full bloom and heavenly scents wafted around in the cool breeze.

She stopped, absorbed in the beauty, but still muttering to herself. She did not noticed the other girl in the garden for a while but when she did, she immediately stopped muttering.
'Because otherwise,' Laisera thought, 'she might assume I'm crazy.'

Adie continued to stand under the warm rays of the sun for several long moments. She loved the feeling of the warmth on her skin. It had been too long since she'd been in the sun. After a few long moments she opened her eyes when she heard a slight sound.

She'd always had a keen since of hearing. Her mother had said that it was a gift from the gods. Adie hardly believed that but her mother had said that she needed to embrace it.

When Adie turned around she saw a woman standing in front of her. She was beautiful. She had long flowing hair that blew around her slender figure. Her eyes were an intense blue that shined. Adie stared at the woman. She couldn't take her eyes off of her beauty.

Laisera was a little disconcerted by the girl's staring but she tried not to show it. She glanced away but her gaze flicked back seeing her still being watched. Instead, she assessed the girl in front of her.

She was quite short, pretty but plain and did not look like she quite belonged in the castle. Laisera assumed that she was one of the many visitors who just came to take a break from life outside, and she could not have picked a better day than this with the thrushes singing sweetly in the trees and the bees hovering around each open flower.

After a while Laisera thought she ought to say something, to be polite, but nothing sprang to mind.

Adie looked down once she realized that she'd been staring at the woman standing in front of her. She could feel her cheeks getting warm but not from the heat of the sun. But from embarrassment. She studied the grass for a short moment then looked up again.

Adie sighed then looked away again. She wasn't sure what to do. She was very shy around people she didn't know. It was something that had plagued her all her life. She hated that about herself. There were times that some people thought she was rude because of the fact that she rarely spoke to anyone when she walked through town. Or went anywhere. But she was far from rude. She loved people. But she had trouble getting the courage to interact with them.

But today she was going to get the courage to speak up. She was going to push herself to do so.

"Hi," Adie said softly with a smile. She actually wasn't even sure that she'd said it. She'd hoped that she had. "I'm Adie."

Finally, the ice had broken a little. Laisera thought how best to answer. Should she introduce herself just as Laisera Hensen or add the lady, but that might seem too... well... unmodest. The poor girl, Adie, in front of her had gone rather red and seemed to be awaiting a response.

It took just a matter of a few seconds to make a decision and it seemed like the suitable one.

"Laisera Hensen, pleased to meet you." 'There,' she thought. 'She might either guess the title or already know it, after all I'm not unknown.'

Adie smiled. So the woman in front of her was who she thought she was. She was Lady Laisera Hensen. But she had not introduced herself as a lady. Maybe she wasn't. But the name fit and the description. Adie assumed that Lady Laisera didn't want to make her uncomfortable. So as to why she dropped the lady part.

"I'm sorry about the staring, you just surprised me," Adie said bashfully. She played with a string that was hanging from her top as she looked down again. Emabrrassment washed over her again. She scowled. She really needed to get a hang on her emotions. "What brings you to the castle? Royal meeting?" Adie looked up and met Lady Laisera's eyes.

"Precisely. With a rather obnoxious young lord. And you?"

Laisera now had a strange urge to tell this girl all about it, to get it off her chest but that did not make any sense, she was a stranger.

Her eyes flicked to the window, a lovely ornate window with beautiful architecture surrounding it. what had caught her eye was the face watching them. Him. He had moved now, sensing her gaze, but she was sure he would return. This was not the young lord but a cousin of her own, someone she despised.

Adie fought to hide a giggle that worked it's way up her throat. She smiled instead and pushed some hair behind her ear. She tucked her hands into the pockets of her dress.

"Having a day for myself. I don't get to come to the gardens very often. At least not since my father fell ill," Adie said then looked down at her boot. It was silghtly muddy from her walk through the gardens. Why was she telling this stranger that? She hardly ever talked to anyone. Especially since her father had fallen ill. Lenora and her father were the only people that she talked to.

Adie glanced back up and saw that Lady Laisera wasn't looking at her. She followed her gaze and saw a window with a figure standing in it. They quickly moved out of the view. Adie looked back at Lady Laisera. "Friend of yours?" Adie smiled because she could sense that the person in the window was far from being a friend.

"An ancient enemy in fact. You're father fell ill, what happened?"

Laisera felt quite at ease talking to Adie, even though there was a slight awkwardness in the air. She started playing with her beaded necklace, like a rosary. It just felt natural.

(Sorry for the short post)

"We're not really sure. He just fell ill one day and has yet to get better. That was several months ago. The doctors don't know what it is. They say he won't live much longer," Adie explained as she looked down at the ground again.

She suddenly had a guilty feeling in the pit of her stomach. She should be with her father taking care of him. She shouldn't have taken the day off. Adie shook her head and scolded herself for not being with him. When he could die at any moment.

Adie kicked at a small rock that was lying in the grass. She needed to get back to her father. He needed her. She would feel horrible if her father passed while she was gone. She wouldn't be able to live with herself. She needed to get back to him to make sure that he was all right.

"You look uncomfortable, are you alright?"

Of course she was not alright, what kind of a stupid question was that? She was talking about her father who might die, it was not a topic usually discussed.

For Laisera, it had been easier, her father, Lord Hensen, has been brutally murdered but there was never any waiting around, scared that he might die. It was a massive shock though, coming home to find his body sprawled on the parlour floor with her mother sobbing over it.

"Does he need anything, like medicines to help him?" Laisera asked, hoping that she could help in some way, however small.

"I'm fine, thank you," Adie said polietly even though it was clear that she wasn't. She knew she was't fooling Laisera but she didn't want to continue to put her problems on the Laisera. She glanced up at her.

"Medicine worked for a while but has stopped working," Adie said with a shrug. "I know it will be a matter of time before he passes. He's getting worse. I hate not being able to do anything. I hate being so helpless."

Adie started getting a little frustrated with the fact that there was nothing that she could do. It was something that ate at her day in and day out. She knew she really shouldn't get frustrated by it but she couldn't help herself. Adie could feel the tears starting to build in her eyes. She looked away before Laisera could see them.

((We can go onto something happier if you want. It was not my intention to make the post so sad. Honest. lol))

Laisera looked down. She really wanted to help this poor girl even though she was a stranger. Just an urge would be what she would call it. Perhaps it was intuition, these people might be important to someone one day.

She racked her brain quickly for anything that could help. At the least, she could send someone to keep them company and let Adie come out more often. No, that would be so impersonal, she had time and there should be no reason for her not to do it herself. For goodness sake, what was wrong with her.

Charitable deeds could do a lot for her reputation as well, if anyone asked. And she could bring Kasid, it would give him more work, seen around the more 'common' folk.

"I could come tomorrow with my family's physician, if you would like. He's very good and probably needs the work. He can just see if there is anything possible to do. It's better than nothing," she ended pathetically.
((Sadness is fine, I write better like that.))

Adie smiled slightly to herself. She could see that Laisera wanted to help her but Adie wasn't so sure she could take the help. It wasn't that she didn't trust Laisera herself. It was the fact that Adie had never been one to trust anyone other than the people that were closest to her, which were her father, Lenora and Kaden before he was killed.

Adie's heart sunk again when she thought of Kaden. It had been nearly two years since he'd been killed. Yet her heart stopped everytime someone meantioned his name or whenever she thought about him. Adie shook her head slightly. She needed to get those thoughts out of her head. She needed to focus on what was happening in the present. Not the past.

"That would be very kind of you, thank you. But I don't know how much it will help," Adie said then realized that she could have just insulted Laisera and her family's doctor. She looked up quickly at Laisera. "I didn't mean that he's not a good doctor, I just meant..." the words were lost. A sudden rush of heat made it's way to her cheeks again. She scowled at herself and looked away.

Stupid, over emotional child. Adie scolded herself.

((All right, I just wanted to make sure.))
