((That would be fabulous! I'm so mad that he hasn't replied to Affairs of the Spirit yet!!))

Wylla had struggled through the winter. She had allowed her work to consume her, spending hours in the biting cold fighting the strong will of stallions. She broke every single one with her fury, for that was where it went. All the fury, the rage, the disappointment, the broken heartedness... it all went to her work, and it made her strong. She did not remember those days fondly. Tears streaming down her face, freezing on her cheeks as she did the work of her husband... her late husband, that is. After sixteen hours in the freezing air she would work in the stables, cleaning, grooming, feeding the horses. She did anything to keep herself out of their... her... house. The house that used to be theirs. Late at night she would stumble into their large house, mansion, estate, whatever you wished to call it. She would take cold baths, yet she wouldn't feel them. She didn't feel anything. By the time she had gotten warm, it was time to go back out in the bitter cold. Her reputation had been built in one winter. She was among the best horse trainers in all of Fynrir. She knew how to break a horse without breaking their spirit. She knew how to calm horses, to have them perform amazing tricks, to not shy away at shadows... all from things her husband... late husband... had taught her, and also things she had caught on to just by watching him for hours, an enraptured smile on her face. A look of pure love.

During the winter months (Which were rather long in the winter world of Fynrir), she had changed. Her body had changed, her personality had changed. She didn't speak, she hated the light, she hated to think, she hated to live. Her body had grown thin, for she rarely ate. Her cheeks had become hollow and pale, her eyes lifeless. Yet her muscles had grown stronger due to the amount of pulling against stallions she had to done. Her bones were covered in long, lean, hard muscles. Her hair was long and often pulled up. No longer did she let it down to flow freely over her shoulders and cascade in soft curls down her back. She wore dark colors, the black of her cloak standing out against the harsh white background. No one dared go near her, lest she lash out at them. People only came to drop their horses off and to pick them up a month later with a large sum of money for her services. Whether they paid her so much for her work or simply out of pity was unknown.

Koshti and Frost had been her best friends. The only ones she talked to, the only ones who could get near her for months. Yet, as time moved on, her wounds began to heal. It took a lot of crying, a lot of pain, a lot of agony, yet she healed. She began talking to people again, began to smile again, and began to laugh again. She felt as if the awakening of spring was also the awakening of herself, and she found herself with the rewards of a long winter's work. She had amassed a great deal of money for herself. She had let the servants go soon after Joraiem's death. Her house had remained dark and had begun to fill with immense amounts of dust. In the beginning of spring she hired a few servants to help clean and cook. She paid them well and soon they were like family. She stopped working as hard and relentlessly, now finding that she wanted to take things slow and enjoy her life, for it was precious. She looked back on her life with disdain. Leaving her parents so early, going out on her own, all the violence, all the heartbreak, all the attempted suicides... it was all so meaningless, for she had been without love, and when she had found it, it was ripped away from her mercilessly.

Of course, some major retail therapy had gone on. She had gone shopping like no other throughout the surrounding area. The house was filled with new furniture, new clothes, new just about everything... and it was decorated rather tastefully and elegantly. She was starting a new chapter in her life, one without attachment. One where she was going to truly live again. She had felt dead for far too long. The only rooms that went unchanged were the library and the bedroom that she had once shared with Joraiem. She no longer went into the bedroom. She had fixed up a different room for herself and done some major renovations to the closet. Despite her new life, she still wore dark colors, finding them to suit her better now. Her dark hair was smooth, silky, and shining and was once again free to fall down her back.

It was a beautiful SUMMER afternoon and Wylla had not a care in the world. She was in a pasture in the back, tending to her favorite horse, Aires. (air-ees) A beautiful palomino with the sweetest disposition. She had acquired him recently and found him to be perfect. He could jump, do anything she asked, and was faster than any other horse she had ever ridden. After giving him a kiss on his velvety muzzle she walked inside and hung up her cloak. Underneath she wore simple dark brown, loose fitting pants that she often wore when she worked, and a long sleeved teal shirt to match her eyes and the cool weather. She had gained a bit of weight in the recent weeks and was beginning to look healthy again. Half of her hair was pulled back and tied loosely with a dark blue ribbon. She gave Koshti a pat on his head and smiled as Frost jumped up on her hind legs to greet her. That little puppy had grown so much in just a year. She seemed huge now compared to the tiny puppy she had been before. Koshti treated her as his own child, and watching them play might have been the only thing that kept Wylla sane during the winter.

She was headed up the stairs to change clothes when the door knocked. She cocked her head a bit. No one was scheduled to show up for the rest of the day... who in the world could it be? A servant moved to answer the door, but Wylla stopped them with a kind smile. "No, it's okay. I'll answer it." She moved gracefully down the stairs and to the door where she opened it. She didn't truly know what she saw. A ghost...a phantom of what was so long ago. Mannix. The eyes. It was the eyes that she knew. The same eyes she had fallen in love with in what felt like years before, for the body, the face was different. She hadn't seen him in a year. Her eyes widened with shock and she took a step backwards.

"Mannix..." She barely whispered his name before feeling a bit dizzy. She reached for the door frame. She blinked and looked up again. It was truly him. She didn't know what to say, was at a loss for words. She licked her lips quickly before meeting his eyes. "What are you doing here?" She didn't mention the fact that she had missed him terribly in his absence, nor did she throw her arms around him in a hug as one does when seeing a friend for the first time in a long while. No, she just stood there for a moment before courtesy reminded Wylla of her manners. "I'm sorry, please...come in..." She seemed hesitant, and faltered on her words as she spoke to him. She was truly taken aback.

Wylla studied him for a moment before he spoke. She watched him as he studied her and felt a faint blush rise to her cheeks. Every time that Mannix had seen her before she had been...different. Healthy, young, vibrant, beautiful... She knew she had changed. She was not yet back to a completely healthy weight and she did not yet get enough sleep to make up for all the hours she had lost. She no longer wore revealing outfits that hugged her figure, or what was left of it after losing so much weight. She no longer looked as if she had never worked a day in her life, for now she had. She found herself wondering if he still found her attractive despite all the changes.... she didn't know, and suddenly she wondered why she was thinking of such things. This was Mannix Terestai! She did not need to impress him, of all people. He had left her in a rage after she had married Joraiem and after she had lied to him, yelling at him that she had never truly loved him. She regretted that moment more than he would ever know.

She studied his face as he pulled back his hood. She smiled, seeing the Mannix that she knew and loved. Wait... no... not loved. Not anymore. She didn't love anyone, at least, not more than a friend would love a friend. Oh, but he was still as handsome as ever. She could tell he had changed as well. His face no longer resembled that of a boy, but that of a man. She found that the ruggedness of his appearance suited him well as opposed to the pretty boy look she had come to know.

She laughed at his remark. One thing that had not changed about Wylla was her laugh. It was still as crystal clear and melodious as ever. "No, I would not believe you, as you have used that line before. However, if you told me that you are here to see an old friend then I might be persuaded to believe you." And her voice was the same. The kind voice that held her girlish charm. The charm that held men in the palm of her hand. She stepped aside from the door, finding herself able to stand on her own now that the initial shock of seeing Mannix had passed. "Really, Mannix, you must come in. Make yourself at home. I just finished up working with the horses. I'm sure we have much to catch up on."

Their was a light that came into Wylla's eyes as she spoke. She began to get excited upon seeing her old friend. She remembered the first time they had met, had traveled together. How long ago that seemed now! She smiled as she remembered how much fun they had had, how much trouble Mannix always seemed to get himself into, how many times he had nearly gotten himself killed, how many times they had kissed.... She remembered how amazing of a kisser he was. She wondered if she might ever find out again for a moment before pushing that thought away. No, she did not want a relationship, especially one with Mannix. He was married! He was an alb! And assassin! Too mysterious and unreliable... Not able to be loyal or tied down. But he was fun, and that was what she missed the most about him.

She laughed at his wink. Oh how she had missed it! "I feel old sometimes, then I remember that I'm only twenty-one and wonder what in Fynrir I'm thinking." She smiled and stretched out her arms around her house. "Well, what do you think? I've completely redone most of it. It's so big. i kept a lot of the old furniture though. The library is huge! If you still love to read as much as you used to you'll love it! You should see the stables out back! They are gorgeous...." Her voice trailed off as she realized that Mannix seemed to be lost in thought. She also realized she had been rambling, as she often did when she got excited, but he soon returned as charming as ever.

She blushed at his compliments. "I see your talents in flattery have only increased since we've seen each other." At that, she simply could not help herself. She threw her arms around him in a hug, one that was delayed far too long. ((well, I think so)) "I missed you, Mannix..." She smiled and pulled away from him and took his hand, beginning to lead him further into the house into a sitting room. "Please, really, make yourself at home. The servants will get you anything you want. I need to go change clothes. These are all dusty from being outside. I'll just be a minute." She smiled at him.

"I really did miss you." A girlish grin took over her features as she turned and left the room, heading up the stairs. Koshti sauntered into the room as only a tiger can do, eyed Mannix for a moment, and laid down on the floor. Frost, of course, was not far behind and soon jumped on top of Koshti who growled and playfully snapped at the puppy. (She still is a puppy! Less than 2 years old, actually) Soon Frost grew bored of Koshti and noticed their visiter. She cautiously approached Mannix, looking back at Koshti every once in a while. However, before Frost was able to inspect the new man in the house, a servant walked in.

"Excuse me, sir. May I get you anything? A drink maybe? We have an excellent selection of wines if you would like some."

[[AAAAAAAAAHHHH!!!! *huggles*]]

The servant nodded and left, returning with a tall glass of wine. As it turned out, Wylla had developed a very good taste in wine over the past year and had acquired quite a few bottles.

Once out of the sight of Mannix, Wylla practically sprinted the rest of the many stairs to the second floor as quietly as she could (Which was rather quiet of course since she is an elf). The second that her feet hit the floor she was running the length of the hallway that led to her room. She made sure that she opened and closed the door silently despite her speed. The second her door had shut she took a deep breath and leaned against the door, sliding down it and sitting on the floor. Her heart was pounding in her chest and she started to tremble. What was MANNIX TERESTAI doing here? She asked herself over and over, yet she never had an answer. Not a true answer, at least. After everything she had said to him she had no idea why he was back. The thought that he might still love her never even crossed her mind. After all, as far as she knew, he was married!

She shook her head and slowly stood, still trembling a little. She looked around her room and for the first time in a long time, she panicked. "Oh my gosh. What am I going to wear?" She walked to her closet and looked all the way through it. She didn't find anything she liked. Figures. A closet full of gorgeous clothes and she couldn't pick anything. She sighed and left the closet, deciding that she would figure out an outfit in a moment. She took off her clothes, ridding herself of their dirt and smell of horse. She drew some water and got a cloth to wash herself off with. After scrubbing herself down quickly she sprayed on some perfume. Of course, not too much. She combed out her hair, leaving all of it down. She looked down at her hands in contempt. No longer were they beautiful and smooth, but rough and calloused from hard work. She searched through her bathroom and found some lotion. She then moved to her closet and finally picked out a casual dark red dress that she put a black corset over. After approving herself in the mirror she slipped on a pair of flat shoes. Wylla took a deep breath and tried to slow her pounding heart.

Why was she so nervous? It was only Mannix... but, her relationship with Mannix had been a rocky one. And that was saying the absolute least. Oh well, he was here. There was nothing left to do but go back downstairs and see him. She hoped she hadn't taken too long as she came down the stairs and returned to the sitting room. She smiled when she saw Koshti and Frost lounging on the floor. "I see you've had company while I was gone." She laughed. "You aren't bleeding are you? You have all your fingers, arms?" She took a seat across from him.

"Wow, it's always nice to see that Chivalry is not forgotten to you. I must say I'm a bit shocked." She teased him when he stood for her. "Who are you and what have you done to my Mannix?" She laughed after he spoke. "Well, if Koshti hasn't attacked you yet, chances are he remembers you and doesn't think you're going to hurt me. Then again, he always liked you, in his own vicious way." She laughed. "And I actually had Frost when you were here the last time. She was just a puppy then, I'm not surprised you don't remember her. She's grown so much. She was a gift from Joraiem while we were dating." She smiled sadly and looked up at Mannix. "I'm sorry, I should be happy. And I am, truly, happy that you are here."

She looked at him curiously. "So how did you get here? I mean, safely. You are, afterall, an Alb and traveling through Fynrir isn't always safe." Her eyes lit up. "Oh! And how is your wife? I don't believe you ever told me her name." His wife... the thing that ruined their two minute relationship. Probably one of the longest he had ever had. Well, that, and she was with Joraiem... but somehow, she had never forgotten about Mannix. She had always wondered what her life would have been like if she had lived it differently. if they had both lived it differently. If they had met under different circumstances...

She shook herself out of her thoughts. It was too late. Things could not be changed. Life was the way it was going to be, whether she liked it or not. She waited for him to speak, realizing that she was dominating the conversation again. Another servant came in with a glass of wine for her, knowing her well enough to realize that she would want one.

"Oh, Mannix. That's horrid. I'm so sorry, but I don't think you're being completely honest. I've found that there are few men greater than the one that sits before me now." She gave him a smile and looked at his glass, laughing. "Still quite the drinker, aren't you." She called for a servant to bring him another glass. "This is the last one you're getting. I remember trying to deal with you drunk once. It's rather difficult and you sleep for long amounts of time. I won't have you sleeping through the entire time you are here."

This brought a question to her mind. "Where are you staying, Mannix? Surely everyone in town have locked up their women, afraid that you will cast a spell on all of them to do your every bidding as they always do when in your presence. Even without spells, I'll warrant." She teased him, as she was so accustomed to doing. "Tell me, Mannix. What have you been doing with your life since you've been gone? Besides breaking hearts and taking names?"

A servant came in with his new glass and took his old one from him.

Wylla listened intently to Mannix as he spoke, finding herself to love the way his voice sounded. A year had changed so much about him. She found it hard to believe that this was the Mannix she had once known. When he talked of the Assassin's guild a disgusted look passed her features. Clearly, she was not a large fan. She winced at the thought of being stabbed in the heart, as she remembered trying to stab her own after Damian left her. She smirked at the thought of Mannix taking a break from women. It didn't seem like him, but hey, things were always subject to change.

Her jaw dropped when he mentioned staying with her for only an hour and then leaving. "An hour? Please, tell me you're kidding." Her big teal eyes were wide. "Are you serious? Mannix! I haven't seen you in over a year! You must stay long! And you must stay here. I'm simply not taking no for an answer. I have plenty of room! Please..." She looked at him, her eyes begging. She was so tired of being alone, stuck in the routine of life. If anyone could get her out of it, well, it would be Mannix. He always had a way of keeping things... interesting, and keeping her on her toes.

She cocked her head to the side as he grinned behind his glass. "What is it? Why do you have that devilish smile on your face that I seem to recognize so well?" She knew that smile. It was a smile that either said, 'Hello, I'm Mannix and I want to screw you,' or it said, "I have something up my sleeve that i'm not telling you.' Or, the ever popular, 'You're sexy and I'm going to have you whether you know it now or not. It's going to happen.'
