The wind whipped against their faces as they rode from the caravan that they had just snuck into, having rode away with two purebred horses as well as saddle bags filled with enough food to last them for a week or two. The riders' faces could not be seen for the hoods that they wore, nothing about them too revealing. After what seemed like hours of riding, and when the barks of the chasing dogs and screams of furious merchants subsided, they finally dismounted from their new transportation and walked beside them, the two finally pulling back their hoods as the first turned to the second, as they were now both side by side.

The first thief was much shorter than the first, his face hidden by a large white mask, metallic and cold with the occasional paint mark of red. His hair was blonde, tipped with deep black dye. his eyes, barely visible, had a fierce look of determination to them as they stared at the second one.

"Well Fenris, what are your thoughts on the last little 'mission' ?"

The second thief, obviously named Fenris, stared back at the other for just a moment as he crossed his arms, walking next to his new horse the entire time. In truth, he hated to steal. But it was all they could do as of late. Neither of them had steady job experience, and no one seemed to want half breeds as stable hands. And so, they continued their lives as unknown thieves, moving from town to town.

Fenris stood taller than his counterpart, at a great stature of 6 ' 2'', yet remained a sloucher, a habit he never broke. His eyes were a deep crimson with just a swirl of black, his hair a layered treatment of white and black, which was surprisingly natural. Finally uncrossing his arms and fiddling with a braid in his hair, he pondered on the last mission for a moment before replying.

"...We're alive, we have food, and frankly Erebus, I still hate doing this."

The masked youth, now obviously known as Erebus, sighed as he shook his head once and turned to look back to where they were heading. It was a large cemetery, in the middle of nowhere. The perfect place to hide until the sun finally crept back down to mask their trip through the forest and to the next town over. Maybe they would find riches? Glory? Something within Erebus' gut however, doubted that completely. They had been hit with wave after wave of bad luck on any of their previous attempts. What would make this time any different?

Erebus was the first to hear the scuffle. Or, more than likely, the first to react. Fenris never seemed to react to anything. He just lived life, blissfully unaware of the world around him.

Hitching his horse to a tree, he quietly removed a dagger as he quickly sprinted through the trees and hid behind a large monument.

In the distance were two females. One would be classified, in all respects, as a midget. And yet the taller of the two was atop the shorter. And most obviously there was a knife involved. In truth, everything screamed for him to stay out of this. And yet he quietly approached, sheathing the knife (for fear that another blade would send the one girl over the edge.) He had seen it happen before, the very sight of another weapon making a person to make a brash decision ending the life of another.

Stepping out into the clearing, his hands behind his back as if strolling casually, he began to whistle an old tune as he raised a foot, placing it on a head stone.

"What seems to be the matter, ladies?"

Erebus shook his head at the tangled mess of the two, scratching his neck for a second. These two were hopeless. It seemed the only way to get them to stop was to step in there himself.

Just as he was about to walk forward, he took a step back at the sight of Fenris already behind the two. There were many times where Erebus questioned if Fenris was as average as he appeared to be. This was one of those moments. He hadn't even seen his best friend move around him, go through the forest and approach the two while they were fighting. In fact, he could have sworn that Fenris had still been by his horse the whole time.

Fenris looked down at the two for a moment before picking them both up by their collars, holding them up in the air. He looked at both of them for a moment, shaking his head.

"Is there really any reason to fight?"

Looking at the taller of the two, his eyes widened for just a moment. His first sign of emotion all day. The girl seemed so...familiar. In fact, it probably wasn't right to call her a girl. She was so obviously older than him.

And with that, he dropped the two, both bouncing onto their rears in unison, making similar "Oof!"s.

Erebus approached his friend, shaking his head. He was so rough at times, that it wasn't funny. And he didn't even mean it.

"Sorry for my colleague's bumpy drop there... habit he hasn't broken. Anyways, care to explain why you guys are out here, as well as the nearly killing each other in a place to honor the dead, not join them?"

Fenris looked at the woman, not saying anything as he watched her. She had a fire in her eyes, something that was very common with the warrior women of some villages they had been to before. The words she spoke were not a threat, but a promise.

As the cricket finally stopped chirping, Erebus shook his head, sitting down in the grass and popping his neck once. What had they gotten themselves into?

"Anyways, now that my brain feels like it's gotten slightly smaller... It might be best for us to move on. We'll let you two get back to killing each other, if you wish."

Erebus began to walk off towards the horses, when he finally turned back to see Fenris in the same place. Gritting his teeth beneath his mask, he walked back and began to pull on his friend's arm, him not even moving.

"C'mon, we're heading out."

Fenris kept his eyes on Ravynzyon for a moment longer, before finally speaking.

"Hten milritiss ren trcngs tweenb sn." (1)

Fenris said nothing as she seductively laid her fingers against his skin, his eyes never leaving hers. He had no thoughts of passion or lust within him, he was just pointing out certain qualities they both held. Finally breaking eye contact and walking to a headstone, he sat down atop it, pulling out a piece of bread wrapped in cloth, taking a bite of it before putting it back in his pocket, not saying another word.

"Heten yseth lwysath llt rm btath n rsonp hanta nyen throth artp fn hemt, vneth heirt ngt."

Erebus knelt down next to the small girl, sighing as he offered a hand and pulled her back to her feet.

"You aren't going to die, I can guarantee that much. Although, I would be wary of getting that woman upset."

Adjusting his mask as he looked back to the horses, he fidgeted. Why hadn't they left already? What was taking so long? He felt like if he left, he would miss out on something. But that was stupid.

...Wasn't it?

Clearing his throat, he gave a small bow to the shorter girl, introducing himself.

"My name is Erebus Roek'kr, and the man who so gently stopped you two from fighting is Fenris Vardamir."

Boy, was he pushing it. Rule number one in life was to never give away your real name. Still, here he was. If the girls so much as uttered a word to the town guard in the next village, they would be hung by sundown for sure.

"And what of you two? Do you have names?"

Erebus nodded to Nyx, finding himself yawning a second later. Holding a fist to stifle it (Quite comical, seeing as there was a mask between him and his mouth), he looked back to Fenris who was now relaxing, the older girl turning to grab her fallen blade.

Propping a foot up on a headstone and crossing his leg over the other, he finally turned back to Nyx.

"And what are you guys doing out here, exactly? It doesn't seem like a place to be having a battle royale. At least, not to me."

Fenris walked towards his friend, sitting cross legged on the ground next to him, once again grabbing some bread from his pocket and taking a bite.

Feeling his own stomach rumble, Erebus quickly followed in suite, but before he took a bite, he broke it in half and handed it to the short girl, nodding.

"If you're not gonna eat it, save it for later. Bread fit for a king."

He carefully closed his mouth, almost saying "I should know, that's where we swiped it."
