I've had my eye on this site for awhile but I after getting so much good info here, like the translated lyrics (THANK YOU!!!), I didn't want to join until I put these photos back online. Here's an album of some photos I took of Noodles when I saw them on 10/23/03. It was at the (now defunct) Siberia Bar in NYC.
http://s545.photobucket.com/albums/hh386/t...2010%2023%2003/ Sorry if the link's inactive -- I keep on getting an error message when I try to use the tag button. And while I'm apologizing, I had just bought my camera around the time of the show. Between letting the batteries run low and not knowing how to edit photos all that well some of the photos are very dark. Maybe one day when I'm not feeling lazy I'll re-edit them. If anybody wants to see a particular photo (or photos) in a larger size I still have the originals. So just let me know and I'll re-edit it. Sometime late in the evening, I went to the merch table between bands and bought God Cable along with some CDs by the other bands that played that nite. Some of the girls from either Gito Gito Hustler or Noodles were behind the table. Anyway, they gave me a little plastic Bearbrick toy that I still have. A scan of it is in the photo album. It was nice of them to do that. In fact, whoever was behind the table was very nice. I bought something like 2 or 3 CDs and an EP CD and besides the toy they gave me another EP CD. I never know anything about Brickbears or even if Noddles had them made themselves until just now when I did a search: http://www.toysdorado.com/object.php?O=242 I guess they had some left over from the Long Long Chain tour, if that's what they mean by "Long long tour." By the way, I recommend all the bands who appeared that nite -- I have the flyer for the show in the photo album. They're all very different from Noodles but they're all very good; especially the Japanese bands. |

Overwhelming Bulbasaur yo. There's a difference. That's not a yawn. And those pictures with Junko are great news.

Oh, now I get it. Duh. Sorry for the confusion, I don't know what a bulbasaur is. lol
Yeah, I took a bunch of photos of Junko. I was sorta striken with her; she has that "female Keith Richards" look going on (to be honest, I was a bit striken with all of them, lol). I think the band lost a lot when she left. Yoko isn't a bad guitarist but it seems like her comfort zone on the guitar is the first 3 strings, especially when she is singing. Junko was able to give the band a bit more balance musically. But I guess all you guys here have talked all this through already. I've looked to see if she's in any other bands but I've had no luck. It doesn't help that I only know her first name and I can't speak or read Japanese. If anyone can help, please do (PM is fine) It was sorta funny seeing them. All the other bands that nite were very good, high energy bands and most wore loud clothes. Then Noodles came on dressed in dark clothes and did their sorta laid back thing. They were very powerful at times (and good enough for me to buy one of their CDs) but they had tough competition that nite. Unfortunately I haven't seen them since then. I missed their next NYC appearance for some reason. Then I had tickets to the All-Girls Nite show but my date canceled at the last minute and I ended up not going. And with Junko gone and life being what it is, I've sort of let their following appearances slide by. - Russell |

These are really neat! Thank you. You're very lucky to have seen them back then, and thanks for taking such nice photographs
Nobody really comes here anymore (with anything new, at least) so this was a very nice surprise. Also-- I just looked at the flyer at the end... so you saw Hang on the Box? I suppose they were pretty cool back then, at least. I'd like to hear more about the show, if you'd be so kind. |

Sure, I'll tell more about the show when i have a chance. You might have noticed I don't mind typing.
In the meantime I uploaded the photos from the rest of the show: http://s545.photobucket.com/albums/hh386/thelikp/ You can get an idea of how energenic the other bands were. They were all pretty nuts. For instance while Hajime from The Spunks was holding those handle bars he went out into the crowd and started a congo line and he was at the head of it "steering" it with his handle bars. It was pretty funny. |

Oh dude, thanks for posting. Was this at CMJ? I think that was their first trip to NY and the US.
It's cool to hear impressions from somebody who saw the Noodles back when they were a four-piece act. I didn't hear about the band until after Junko had left. We actually didn't talk much here about how the band changed without Junko, but you pretty much got it there. The guitar work was more interesting with her around and some of the really great songs from the earlier years just don't work as well, or at all, without her. I think they still put on a great show, and I've enjoyed the post-Junko albums, but it's definitely not the same. And I don't think Junko's still musically active. |
