OoC:

I'm so sorry about the amount of time this took. D: I lost my muse yesterday after I told you I was working on the intro, and then deleted everything. So that's why I didn't get this done last night.

I hope you can forgive me. o___o

BiC:

Ryddian watched as a small flower of scarlet bloomed in fast motion somewhere beneath the fur on his flank, contrasting starkly with the creamy white of his pelt. It was almost hypnotic in the way it spread so flawlessly, staining his skin as it took over a small but noticeable portion of his leg, drawing his attention to it effortlessly. The alpha male of the Golden Horizon pack stared at the little red blotch expressionlessly as it marked him. The look would have been challenging if Ryddian was interesting in competing with a bloodstain, of all things.

The story was that his leg had been bleeding like this all morning. It was nothing serious, but it was kind of distracting; he would clean the cut and be done with it, but it would open right up again as soon as he began to move, bleeding as freely as if it had accumulated stubbornly beneath the dam of his saliva simply for the sake of annoying him. It was half working. He was getting a little tired of this constant interruption in his day, but really, there wasn’t much point in getting angry over a little cut that wouldn’t even scar after all was said and done with.

Sitting at the far edge of the plateau, Ryddian had come up here earlier that morning with the intention of . . . well, not doing anything, really. Usually he came up here to think. Today he’d done it more for the purpose of relaxing until the bleeding finally stopped and allowed him the freedom to move around again. He would have waited in his den (the cut had been caused in his sleep—he’d noticed it upon waking up) for the bleeding to stem itself, but he had quickly begun to feel confined in the stone walls of the cave. So he’d chosen to move to a more open area.

The sound of movement behind him gradually drew Ryddian out of his thoughts. The white wolf turned to see his Beta, Velocity, sitting on the plateau farther away from him. Glancing once between the flower of blood and other wolf, the alpha stood up, deciding that he preferred company over solitude today.

The dusty desert sunlight dappled his fur as he manoeuvred his way over to Velocity, his thick tail swinging in time with his steps as he approached. He had to admit that he liked the company most of the time. Being a loner, while sometimes appealing, was not always as satisfying as he used to think it was. The ability to be able to talk to someone when it was needed was surprisingly gratifying, especially out here in the isolation of the desert. He much enjoyed Velocity’s presence when he didn’t feel like thinking anymore.

“Hello,” he greeted, always quietly, as he sat beside the other wolf.

OoC:

It's okay. x) I was kinda pressuring myself, anyway.

No worries. ^___^

BiC:

Wound? Ryddian glanced down again at the small spot of blood that painted some of the fur at the top of his leg. He wouldn’t call it a wound, really. The cut itself couldn’t have been more than half an inch long, although the amount of blood could be deceiving, he would admit. The circle of red was perhaps the size of a large coin; nothing too nerve-wracking. Casting a reassuring look at Velocity, he shook his head, smiling very slightly.

“I’m fine,” he said. Dipping his head toward the cut, he cleaned it with his tongue for what had to be the tenth time yet that day, managing to get most of the red spot out of his pelt, too. It took about seven licks before the bleeding ceased but for one tiny, rebellious little dot of red that he allowed to remain sticking to his skin. Satisfied with this small accomplishment, he raised his head again to look back at Velocity. “I was asleep,” Ryddian explained simply.

He wasn’t sure if the other wolf even wanted to know how it happened, but he figured that it would get it out of the way if, indeed, he did. He kind of still wanted to know how it had really happened. Probably he had just rubbed the wrong way against a rock in his den while sleeping, but then again maybe something had bit or clawed him. Well. He would try to scent blood when he returned later, but he might as well focus on actually getting the bleeding to stop for the time being.

» ooc CAN YOU TELL ME WHAT STOPPED THE RAIN? XD Well alright :]» ic WHERE IS SALVATION? SCIENCE, SAVIORS, TRAGEDY? While awaiting an answer, Velocity turned away from Ryddian. His ears twitched again, and he attempted to breathe in without tainting his lungs with the vile scent of wolf blood. Though the wound was probably small, it still bled much he had noticed, and that had given off a strong smell. There was no scent as alarming as that of wolf blood - Velocity had that much to say. Especially entwined within that scent was the fragrance of somebody important to you. But the male shouldn't be saying that - he didn't think of Ryddian too important in his life, did he? The fact that he was Alpha, and that respect had played a large role throughout his life would help convince him though. But not only was receiving respect important, no. Velocity had learned over time that in order to receive it, one had to give it first. "If you say so," Velocity murmured upon hearing his Alpha's response. Turning back to him, he nodded, forcing the edges of his mouth to rise in a brief smile of understanding. Though Velocity could not truly say he felt what he was supposed to behind that smile, he had learned that it was a gesture of happiness, forgiveness, comprehension; anything that bordered on hospitality, rather than hostility as Velocity was so used to. As his thoughts drifted away, the smile had faded - his gaze wandering over the land before them, surveying everything there. From rocks to small animals having shown their frightful faces and scurrying into the safety of their homes again. Finally he looked back to the Alpha, growing thoughtful, and rather curious. "How long have you been here?" Velocity questioned, tilting his head slightly. It would be nice to know - that, and how the land had come to fall into Ryddian's power in the first place. When he had been younger, he had wandered near the borders of this land - perhaps a few weeks after he had first awoken - and had detected a different scent. But maybe that, too, was his Alpha's and Velocity just couldn't remember.

Out Of Character;;I'm bringin' in the old table. P: My posts look too bland without it. XDDIn Character;;The quiet sounds of desert life seemed to take over between them. Ryddian kept his eyes trained absently on Velocity for a moment as the other wolf ceased speaking and stared off into the distance, having fallen silent a while ago. He took little time in deciphering the Beta’s smile, which had faded away by now, because he didn’t try; expressions really were meaningless, when you thought about it. The white wolf had always believed that faces acted more like masks than anything else. Not that he suspected his Beta of hiding anything. It was just the Alpha was used to doing it too often himself to honestly put faith in everything he saw.Slowly, he turned his own head away to look into the golden horizon (almost cracking a smile as he thought of it). The sunlight forced him to squint a little, but he could still make out small particles of sand as the wind carried them up and swirled them around in midair, dancing freely for all of five or ten seconds before being deposited back on the ground carelessly, as if nothing had ever even happened. Ryddian thought, in an almost detached way, that it sort of represented the cruelty of the desert itself, though with less pain, unless he was mistaken in thinking that sand didn’t have nerves hidden in their tiny shells. The white wolf figured that it would be a pretty sad existence if they did.The question nearly caught him off guard.Ryddian didn’t glance at Velocity, however. He only lowered his eyes to look at his paws (not sheepishly) so that he could think without the blinding sunlight in his eyes. How long had he been here? It was almost hard to tell as the silence descended over them like some sort of mental constriction. Thoughts laced through with faded memories rumbled through his head in no particular order, almost jostling him. Usually he had more control over his own mind. He supposed, however, that it was more difficult with this because he rarely touched upon the subject even with himself—not because it was a painful re-experience, but simply because it just never really seemed important.“As long as I can remember,” he replied. Ryddian figured he would save the long story of his life for when Velocity decided to ask about it directly, if he ever did. Not that he was hesitant to tell it. But, logically, he wasn’t much of a talker and usually didn’t go into long spiels when they weren’t needed. He’d otherwise be willing to tell if he was asked.

Out Of Character;;It's so spiffy. o:In Character;;The Alpha only managed a quiet grunt of acknowledgement in response. He was now lost in his own memories, something that didn’t happen very often; apparently this was one of those times where his mental storage overflowed, and some of his more repressed thoughts slipped through the cracks in his defences. Ryddian wondered if he was slowly losing his own self-control. Not being able to keep himself in check over the simplest of things was becoming a habit that he didn’t appreciate very much, especially when it began to grow tiring. But, unfortunately, these thoughts couldn’t keep his attention away from the main burden weighing down on his mind. Flashing images of hot sand and exhausted faces danced on the edges of his vision, plaguing him like angry fleas. His expression didn’t falter as this distraction refused to cease pestering him, and he instead tried keeping himself busy by raising his eyes again and staring blankly out into the hot, dusty desert distance. He noticed that the sun was beginning to move lower in the sky. At least this offered some sort of relief. The memories swirled about confusedly in his head before he managed to tamp them down again. Thinking about them only made his head hurt more noticeably than the bright sunlight shining in his eyes did, and he didn’t figure there was any use in thinking about it more anyway. The subject hadn’t been brought to the forefront of his mind in years. The feeling of recollection, of reminiscing, was almost sort of alien, and just the slightest bit uncomfortable. He pushed the memories back gently behind the dam that he had erected to guard his mind against rebellious thoughts when he didn’t need them to be present.“What about you?” Ryddian asked finally. “Where were you before you came here?”Surprisingly enough, he’d never asked that question so directly before. He only ever asked questions relating to ‘what is your purpose here’ when greeting strange wolves at the border; not questions concerning their past. He normally found that to be quite rudely intrusive.

» ooc CAN YOU TELL ME WHAT STOPPED THE RAIN? that it is. o3o» ic WHERE IS SALVATION? SCIENCE, SAVIORS, TRAGEDY? A silence seemed to have settled between the pair after Velocity's answer, and Ryddian's responding grunt. He tilted his head slightly, causing an ear to twitch and rotate forward, then flatten, while the other remained perfectly still, focusing upon the sounds ahead of them. There was virtually nothing happening beneath them. Absolute peace and calm. velocity uttered a soft sigh, closing his eyes for a moment. Times like this he had to admit were nice, but not during his current situation. This seemed more like an awkward silence, where nobody had anything to say, rather than a serene lapse into silence. Either that, or Ryddian was just distracted. Velocity truly couldn't count on any to be the reason. With a shrug, Velocity's skull declined until his leathery nose touched his paws gently. Pressing against them, Velocity inhaled lightly, before proceeding to lick and clean his paws. They weren't all too dirty, however to pass the boredom by he had decided to make sure they were as pristine as he had decided he would like them to be. Stained a light tawny from travel, though after a few seconds of licking the short, bristly fur on his paws, it had become a slick white again. It was then that he heard Ryddian speak. "Where were you before you came here?" The male's ears flattened as he lifted his head to look back up at Ryddian, arching a brow before furrowing both thoughtfully. Where had he been? Wandering, mostly... At least, thats what he figured. He couldn't remember any earlier than having woken on the ground beneath the cliff. "Me?" The Beta paused, then nodded. "Just wandering around the desert, thats all. With no where to be." Velocity finished with another shrug. He chose to keep his answer brief, avoiding what he could not remember happening earlier in his life.

Out Of Character;;Sorry about the wait. I was really busy these past few days, 'cause all of a sudden it was like everything I didn't do this summer came back to make up for it. xDIn Character;;He didn’t pry. Instead he simply nodded his understanding and turned his head away to stare back out at the horizon.Their relationship really was strange, if he was honest with himself. They were two wolves with no pasts and not much to say; not exactly the makings of a finely-crafted inner pack structure, if, again, he was honest. But where was the problem? They gave each other space they needed and rarely (in fact, Ryddian couldn’t remember a time when they actually had) come to heads with each other over anything. They were probably the perfect pair of wolves to come together to live in this land, despite their lack of knowledge concerning one another’s history. He didn’t really mind it. He’d rather have what they did now than nothing at all; being alone in the desert was like having cabin fever, except with a much wider expanse of space, and he was quite positive that it wasn’t difficult to lose one’s mind out here in the heat and the emptiness. Velocity’s company was more than just a relief when Ryddian found that he grew bored of wandering through the dark recesses of his own thoughts. It was more like some sort of emergency medication. But, of course, he would never say something like that aloud, seeing as it sounded very strange indeed.Glancing down at his flank, he noted that the bleeding had stopped again. The small coin-size dot of blood that stained the fur around the crust had already begun to dark and crust over. As for the cut itself, the scab was already mostly formed, and, tentatively, he shifted his position to see if the movement would affect it at all.Nothing.Ryddian grew slightly more confident. Now he stretched his paw out, slowly, to see if this would do anything. The cut miraculously remained closed and no more blood escaped. Even though it was silly, he felt kind of triumphant; over what, however, he wasn’t yet sure, but at least it was an improvement. Maybe it could manage to stay in this condition throughout the day, if he was careful and settled for walking around instead of breaking into a full-fledged run. That, he was sure, wasn’t worth risking. He looked up again at Velocity, something bordering on a smile playing across his lips.“Quite a strange pair, aren’t we?”
