"Hot, hot, hot!" said a voice with an annoying air. Along the borders a small wolf hopped like a hare, trying to avoid the hot sand. Yes, it was this pathetic wolf that had cried out only moment ago. "Hot..." The he-wolf whimpered, his eyes scanning the area for shade. And there was none. Not a tree or anything that supplied shade. Hope, nothing.

The wolf whimpered again and his gaze drifted to the hardened desert floor. He raised his head and scanned the area for a moment, then stopped jumping. She turned back to the ground and shivered in pain as the heat from the hot soil burned his paw pads. Swiftly, he began to scrap his fore paws against the ground, sending a tiny amount of dirt up into the air.

As the he-wolf continued to dig at the dry ground, the sun continued to warm the area. It had gotten use to living in these deserts; for he had been lost here for ages. Who knew how long it was, maybe even half a year! The sun had made him shed most his fur and it had strengthened his paw pads to withstand evening temperatures in the deserts. But there was next to nothing to hunt. Only some big game, which the he-wolf did not dare take down alone. The sun had also lightened his peltage even more: his once dark beige coat was a very light tint of tan. His face was as white as ever and there was no sign of any darker hues in his fur. The wolf had also gained the skills needed to survive in these extreme conditions.

Yes, the desert had changed with wolf into anew. He had grown more independent and less social. He had not seen another wolf since he spotted that horrid she-wolf by the oasis. And since then, he had simply wandered. Alone.

Finally, the he-wolf finished the tiny hole. It was big enough for him and only him to stand in. The skinny, female-like wolf buried his paws the cool sand he had dug up. It had taken a lot of effort, but it was needed. The he-wolf gave a refreshing breath and lowered his head, his tongue lolling out of his mouth lazily.

Suddenly, a faint smell was brought to him by the strong desert winds. The scent of a pack; of civilization. The he-wolf head raised and for once in his life, Tranter looked very serious. His ears where perked and his tail hanging lifelessly at his hind legs. He stood silently, not knowing what to do. He thought of running, going back into the desert to be alone and at peace. But.. his heart longed for friends and pack-mates. To be with others.

Suddenly, his stomach rumbled like rolling thunder. His heart raced and he turned his head to look into the desert. He turned back to the pack lands in front of him and shifted his paw forward. Sand ran between his toes and he whimpered to himself, completely confused. What was a wolf to do? The longing of other wolves tugged at his heart, but his newly found love for the desert pulled at his spirit and souls.

Perhaps the pack lands where in the desert? Hmm.. Maybe he'd check it out. And if his hypothesis was correct, he'd say. If not he'd return to his desert Yes, his desert.

Slowly, the he-wolf head raised until his nose was covering the bright noon-hour sun. His jaws parted slightly and his lips curled, but a melody was not heard. The wolf was having second thoughts. His spirits where battling with his heart, and so far his heart was winning. The light-coloured he-wolf closed his eyes and let a long tune ring out threw these borders, calling whoever owned them to come forth for judgement.

&outofcharacter.Mmkay, here it is. ;]There may be some spelling/grammar mistakes. I'm sorry if there are. I have to go now so I don't have time to spell-check, but I wanted to post this up by tonight.&backincharacter.. . .Please, bless our desert with rain so that our prey may grow large and live long enough for us to hunt fruitfully during the dry season. . . Ryddian nearly had to catch himself from saying me instead of us during his prayer, since he was still trying to get used to speaking to Arylis on behalf of more than himself these days. Nevertheless (and to his relief), he didn’t falter when he came to that crucial point, and was able to finish his thoughts without any further interruption, receding back into the state of extreme relaxation which he always fell into while he prayed. It was half an hour later when he finally opened his eyes to the blinding sun and sat himself up on the stone altar. The familiar sights of the ruined temple greeted him, as they always did on this same day every month when he came to visit; the crumbled remnants strong and unmoving, like rock sentries standing at attention to protect this sacred place. The stone altar was all that had really been left fully intact after the rest of the are had fallen into chaos, and that was why it was used as a praying area.It was time to return and go hunting.Stepping off of the altar, Ryddian was just about to leave the temple grounds and head back to the den area (small, easy game was more abundant there) when a faint sound made his ear twitch. He stopped and narrowed his eyes, simultaneously raising his nose to the sky to try and catch the last remnants of the noise, to make something of it. Was it a howl?Another visitor, then. A mild excitement flowed through his chest, his heart beginning to race sluggishly, his eyes brightening just a fraction. He knew that if they kept coming he would start to feel nothing at a new arrival, for it would have gotten tedious, repetitive; but the experience was yet still new and continued to bring the element of surprise to him. The white wolf turned in the opposite direction to the borderlands, where he believed the howl had come from.It took him about seven minutes for him to arrive at a steady trot across the smooth floor of sand. When he was about a quarter of a mile away he could see Tranter standing by the border and quickened his pace accordingly. At this new speed he shortened his trip by about two extra minutes, and came to a gradual stop nearly ten feet away from this strange new wolf. He was pale. Did he (or had he) also live in the desert, possibly in a more remote area where the border just missed? Perhaps. His fur seemed appropriate enough to consider the option.Ryddian raised his head in greeting.“Who are you?”

Tranter lowered his head, ending his long tune with a sharp note. He sighed and lowered his rump into the sand, his muscles tensed as he watched the desert for any sign of life. The male's head turned back and he looked out into the free deserts, where anyone could roam. The male's eyes scanned the loner lands, and there was no one. The desert was lifeless, not a snake or a bird to be seen for miles.

The male turned his head back to face the packlands, and now there was an object coming toward it. It was small, but growing quickly. Surely, this would be a pack member. Or maybe even the alpha, what an honor that would be. Tranter sit still as the wolf grew larger, and now it was only a few lopes away. The loner's ears went back and he wrapped his tail around his leg hindleg as the large male came to a stop several feet away.

The he-wolf looked at him as he spoke, but looked away shortly after. That was the respectful thing to do, after all. If he gazed into the wolf's eyes for too long he may seem to be a threat. The warm winds brought the wolf's scent to Tranter, and he realized that he was, in fact the alpha male. The loner rose to his paws and offered the other he-wolf a bow of his head.

Again, Tranter raised his head after a short moment or two. A friendly grin crept over his ebony lips and he held his tail limply at his hindlegs, his ears still held back. "I am Tranter, dearest alpha." He said kindly, averting his eye contact again. "I was wondering if you'd be so kind as to pass judgement upon me. The life of a loner is not a life for me." He said with a soft, kind chuckle.
