It all happened so fast.....

It just happened so fast. She did not know, neither did the others until an ornery stallion stirred up ruckus.

She had stepped softly and silently from the porch, knowing her brother would have a conniption at her actions. Within the last few weeks, Peter had hardly spoke to her but made it clear he did not want her around the horses. Only around, if any, ones that he or Kaia had under control. And Adoni. She could be around Adoni, but that was it. Nothing more, nothing less. It was the only conversation she had with him for weeks.

Meandering towards the corral with silent grace, she eyed the mare with delight. It was dark out, as the early morning dew set on the ground softly. The young woman had been planning this for days and it was now or never.

Nearing the wooden planks of the corral, she watched the grey equine as a grin formed on her lips. Slipping in between the panels, she walked up to the mare with ease and caution, reaching out to her with slender fingers to stroke its velvety nose. The mare reacted with tension, jumping slightly at the touch and remaining aloof. Snorting softly at the young woman before eyeing her with large black eyes.

Willow grinned toothily at the mare before walking around her to make sure she was sound enough for her early morning ride. The mare was nervous, but it did not worry Willow. She had been around plenty of nervous horses but usually they calmed down once she was on top of them. As she circled the horse, she let her fingertips trail along the pelt.

It was a quiet morning and even peaceful but dark. Just slightly after three on a Sunday morning, she knew her brother would not wake purposely before six at the earliest. Willow’s ears picked up the sounds of cars and trucks that passed at the entrance, giving little thought to the whereabouts of them. Probably just late night partiers either going home or to another party.

She did not hear the squeal of tires, fully focused on the task before her. She wanted this ride. She needed this ride. She could feel it in her bones. Not hearing the squeal, she was not ready. The horse heard it, only to well and tensed up even more. As soon as Willow’s hand had ran across the rump of the mare, the squealing of tires ended with an echoing and deafening boom. A tire blowing out.

That sound stopped Willow as she paused, only for a moment. Mere seconds passed as the mare reacted. Sharp back hooves bucked up and out, one nailing the young woman in her chest as the other one narrowly missing her head. She stumbled backwards, hitting the fence heavily before collapsing into a heap on the ground.

Only one thing witnessed and understood the entire ordeal. It was the ornery stallion named Adoni. Seeing such an action, the stallion became wild and aggressive, bucking in his stall as he began to let out screams. He kicked and kicked at the stall door with such power and force as it slowly but surely gave into the blows.

Peter was still asleep in the house, in his room. Lack of sleep had finally pulled the man into an uncomfortable sleep-like state as he rested silently, unaware of what just took place.

Kaia was curled up in her bed. Dreaming sweet deams why because she could sleep. Yes, she was upset over Willow but she wouldn't allow Willow to control her. THe young girl was curled up in her bed and slowly she pushed herself out of her bed. Her own hand went over her stomach and she closed her eyes. There was absolutely nothing in there. No life. Not anything. Not yet. And she wouldn't be having one for a long while. Kaia had made sure of that, she had to take the pill because she didn't want to be pregnant. Not yet. Not whiel things were in such turmoil.

She closed her eyes and held her stomach with a small frown. She looked over at Peter who was still asleep. Smiling she gave her husband a kiss as she held her hair back so she wouldn't wake him up. Pushing herself offf thebed she slowly started to stand and slunk out of her room. Wighing happily she put on her green robe and wrapped it around her slender waist.

Kaia meandered down the stairs. Hungry. Eyes half closed as she sighed and grabbed some water. Drinking happily she continued to eat and then slowly ate some more. It was then when she heard something. A tire? The young woman slipped on a pair of her boots and then wandered outside with a flashlight in case someone needed some help.

Kaia looked around and then noticed that smehting didn' feel right. Her heart was pounding in her chest so fast. The young woman made her way out and then thought of it. The horses! The horses? She raced over to the stables and then saw something hunched over.

At first she thoguht that there was something wrong or someone was trying to steal a horse. Shining the light the young woman cried out, "Hey! Get out of there!" It was then when she realized that there was somehting wrong. She screamed.

Peter was jolted awake by the scream, frantically looking at the side of the bed but saw it empty. KAIA! Something happened to Kaia! Was his initial thought. Staggering to his feet, he breathlessly slipped on a shirt and jeans before stumbling out the door.

The man was still only half-awake, senses still slightly numb as he groggily stumbled down the steps. Finding his boots, he opened the door and squinted his eyes in the sudden darkness. He then saw the flashlight Kaia held and Kaia. She was seemingly safe.

He then heard Adoni's frantic neighing and a sudden breaking of wood.

What the.... He thought before jogging towards Kaia.
"What's wrong? I heard a----" His eyes followed the beam of light before reacting. "Willow?!" The man exclaimed.

Adoni had broken free from his stall, neighing at the top of his lungs as his hooves pounded loudly towards them.

She stood there perfectly still wide eyed as she shook her head and brought her hand up to her mouth. SHe was perfectly still. Unable to move and speak. The fact that Peter had showed up snapped her out of it a little bit. Slowly, she looked over at him and then said quietly in a groggily voice.

"Peter."

PETER! She didn't knwo what to do or say. She found her legs again and raced forward to where Willow was. She looked up at the frantic mare. It was then when her mind went somewhere else.

The baby.

What happened to the baby? She thought a moment and paled. Looking down she called out, "Willow!" She swung the stall open not caring about the poor spooked mare. SHe felt bad for it. She heard that loud noise too. Willow must have been behind her when she was spooked.

"Willow!" SHe moved the poor horse away and then reached out to her quicly.

Peter was only moments behind Kaia and knelt down beside his sister. Although the man was sleep deprived, the gears in his brain began to function slowly. His thoughts were flying though is mind at the sight of his sister, but the man knew he had to remain civil.

Willow was a crumpled heap. Partially face down, she had curled up slightly with her knees bent and pulled towards her. Her pulse was weak and each breath clearly painful and shallow but alive.

Her brother looked towards Kaia, shaken and distraught before speaking hoarsly. "Call an ambulance." He nodded as he slowly shifted Willow into another position so she laid flat, in hopes of increasing air-flow to her lungs.

With the fence open, Adoni entered the corral and lashed out towards the mare when she trotted to him. Snipping at her, he bared his teeth at her until she backed off before trotting protectively over to Willow. He stood behind Peter, lowering his head slightly towards the young woman.

"An ambulance!" She cried out.

That was right. She needed to get one! The young woman rushed away and an off. The young woman stumbled on the way back. Yeowch! She fell face first in the ground. Shaking her head she licked at her lips and then made her way into the house.

9-1-1.

"Hello!?"

"Ma'am what' syou emergency?"

"My sister-in-law, she was out in the stable and she got kicked by a horse! She's pregnant! Please hurry!"

"Ma'am we'll be there, right away! Try to stay calm. Is you rhusband out there calming her down?"

"Yes! Please hurry! Please!"

"We will ma'am."

About five minutes later an ambulance came. The sirens whisling through the calm night. Kaia heard them and she ran out of the house. "She's in the stable!" Kaia agaian almost fel lflat on her face. But she couldn't help it. She was clumsy when she was excited.

Peter's hands were seemingly shaking, looking up with wide eyes only to see his wife slip.
"Kaia!" He called out but remained at his spot as she moved once more towards the house.

When the ambulance sounded, Peter finally stepped back from his sister's crumpled body so the paramedic's could do their work.

The paramedics rushed forward.

Rushing out with a stretcher they took Willow and then put her on it. Strapping her down so she wouldn't move too much.

"Willow!" she breathed and then raced forward. Unsure on what would happen. "Willow!" Kaia cried out as she made her way to Peter and put her hand on Peter. Her shoulders heaved up and down and she licked at her lips.

They started to bring Willow to the van.

Peter instinctivley pulled Kaia towards him, not believing the scene before them. This was not happening. It was not... Really.... He would wake up any second now, look over to see Kaia dreaming peacefully next to him. Then he would venture into Willow's room and find her safe and well, pregnant or not....
This was not happening... Really...

But it was... Like a slow-motion horror film... It was happening.

He swallowed unsteadily, his eyes locked on Willow as she was loaded up. Help was here. They would fix it... She would be okay... She would... right?

Adoni trotted nervously around, raising his head nickering loudly as he kept his distance from the paramedics. Eventually, he crept up just behind Peter and Kaia before inching closer and stopping at Peter's side.

"Peter," Kaia breathed. "Peter, we have to fololw her!" She was frantic and afraid. Her heart was beating so fast she was sure it would pop right out of her chest. The young Asian girl waved her hands a little bit. "Please! Please Peter we have to follow them!"

She was near hysterics.

"We have to go, we have to go!" Kaia's one track mind was on well one track. The tiny woman pushed herself away from her husband and scampered off to the car. Pulling at it. "Openupopenupopenup!" She didnt't even realize that it wasn't unlocked.

"OPEN UP!" she smashed her fist against the car.

Peter's mind slowly kicked into gear as the momentum began to flow. As Kaia pulled away from him, he moved.

Follow, yes, follow... Follow... Truck... Car... Not open... KEYS!

The man turned sharply and raced to the house, feet propelling him foreward. Rushing into the house, he skidded slightly as the warm fragrance of 'home' awoke his senses even more. It occured to him then that he was barefoot. Blinking slightly, he dared to look back out the door and see Kaia in her green robe.

Rushing upstairs breathlessly, he darted into their room before hastily pulling a pair of jeans and shirt from the closet for Kaia. Flying out of the room, he grabbed his boots and nearly fell down the stairs as he took two at a time.

Shifting the items in his hands for room, the man grabbed the keys from their usual spot and darted out the door with little thought.

"Kaia! Truck! I have the keys." He called out, motioning to the truck with a slight nod. Dropping his boots, Peter shoved the key into the door and nearly broke the key from force. Unlocking the truck, the man grabbed his boots, started the engine and set Kaia's clothes aside.

Kaia continued to pound at the truck. Unsure if her hands were bleeding or not. Her forehead on the truck and she whimpered. Eyes closed as she rocked bac and forth. That was when she heard Peter.

"Truck! Yes!"

Kaia pounded the truck again and realized he unlocked it. Jumping in she buckled in and waited impaitently. "Buckle up and don't drive like a maniac!" She was in no state to drive she'd probably crash right into the nearst tree.

Seeing he had clothes she started to strip off right then and there as she put on the clothes that he had brought out for her. She kept on her slippers though. "I'm okay!" she looked over at him. "Drive damn it drive!"

Hell have no wrath like that of a short 5'0 concerned Asian woman.

He did not need to be told to drive as he put the truck in reverse as she spoke before shifting it into drive and barreled down the driveway. Glancing hastily in the rear-view mirror he saw Adoni trott after them but stopped obediantly at the gate as he turned the corner sharply.

The man could only hope and pray that if a cop stopped them by some chance, it would be Billy... Or maybe a few others which he knew but Billy would be the best... If they got stopped.

Buckling his seatbelt after a few moments, the truck sped down the road, pushing the speed limit.

The cowboy was weary... Enough... Sure, slightly reckless and not really focused... But weary....

Eventaully the hospital came into view.

"Peter!" Kaia cried out.

She just realized something. She was taken aback by the thought because it hit her harder than an avil in a Loony Toon's cartoon. "W-WHat about the baby?" She just realized that it coud have been the baby that could have been kicked. "PEter, what if it's hurt or..."

What if it was dead?

Slowing down as he entered the hospital parking lot, he found a parking space up close before turning off the truck. As Kaia spoke, he felt his mouth go dry and unable to answer. He fought off the cloudieness of his brain before reaching for her hand with his and merely looking at their hands.

His hand squeezed her's gently before he raised his eyes to the hospital building.
"Let's go."
Peter spoke softly, his heart heavy before opening the door.
