A last shot

Another shot rings out. Glass flies through the truck and a yell reverberates in the vehicle. Robert swears fluently in German as crimson bleeds out his arm all over the truck. "Sheisse this hurts. Sheisse. Please make it stop." Robert says repeating himself over and over. Pain breaks a man. Most of the time.

Jessica screamed as both brothers glanced back. Kent let a stream of cusswords as the truck swerved dangerously as Keelan threw his jacket back at the boy.
"Robert, calm down and wrap the wound with the jacket." He spoke firmly before looking at his pallid sister.

Jessica was nearely hyperventalating, help looking upwards and eyes squeezed shut.

"Jess... Jess... Breath, Jess... Breath." Kee urged, unbluckling his seatbelt and leaning the seat back as he took his sister's hand. "Breath."

In the distance, the hospital lights came into view.

Robert takes it and tries to tie it best he can one handed. Meanwhile he tries to keep from yelling. After he gets it all tied up. "See I'll be okay, Jess. Don't break down on us hun. Please don't." Robert says using his good hand to squeeze her. When he wasn't talking his teeth wre being grit just a bit hard.

She was panicking. Badly. Blood was not her forte. Muchless, the one she liked being shot at and the source of blood. Nope. She was not doing well. Her hands shook uncontrollably as her breathing remained frantic and rushed.

Kent had sped to the hospital, stopping abruptly in the front. Keelan nearly flew out of the front seat as he opened the door in a fluid motion and then opened the back door. Realizing his sister was in no state of standing, much less walking on her own, her unbuckled her seatbelt and pulled her out. Practically carrying Jessica, he motioned to Robert to follow.
"I don't have to carry you, right?" He added with a slight smile, trying to lighten the mood before beckoning to the door. "Lets go."

Robert manages a grimace not the grin he wanted. "Nah. Do I have to carry you?" He manages and winces as he follows them up the stairs.

As they walk in there's not much of a wiat for once in the ER and they make it to the counter with ease. The receptionist turns. She yells for a nurse immediately. "Boy you sit right in this chair until we can move you out."

"Not that I know of." Keelan nodded with a soft laugh, shifting his sister's weight as they preceded up the stairs.

Once in the ER, Keelan nodded again as the receptionist spoke, letting Jessica sit in one of the chairs, her breathing still rapid and rushed. He turned toward his sister, letting his hand slid along her jawline, raising her eyes until they met his own.
"Breath... One... Two... Three... Breath... One... Two... Three... Breath... One... Two... Three..." He repeated in a steady voice as he breathed deeply his own, his attempts to slow the rushed breath.
It worked slowly as Jessica kept her attention on her brother and did as instructed.

A nurse rushes out with a wheel chair. "I heard there was shooting but I didn't expect a victim..." She muttered. "Get in the chair kid we gotta check on that arm."

"Okay, okay," Robert mutters back and slips in the chair. "Jess relax its not like its in my chest. They'll just shoot me up with some painkillers. They'll yank it out and stitch me up. I'll be better in a week or two. Right ma'am?" He asks the nurse.


"Assuming your arm wasn't broken and you don't get an infection son." She says starting to wheel him off.

Keelan eyed the nurse before shaking his head.
"He'll be fine... Now... One... Two... Three... Breath..." He started again as Kenton walked up.
The other brother seemed throughly annoyed, shaking his head but remained quiet, watching his sister.

"Where is he?" Kent inquired as Keelan nodded his head in the direction the nurse left.
Kenton followed the nod with his eyes before mumbling beneath his breath. Raising one hand to Jessica, he slid strands of hair behind her ear before taking a seat next to her.

Once her rushed, panicked breathing subsided, Jessica sat up slowly as tears swelled up in her eyes. Her hands still trembled but breathing remain normal.

"Wait why couldn't they come with us?" Robert asked.

"Where they family?" The nurse said taking him down the labynthtine hallways. They arrive at a doctor who quickly takes the jacket off.

"Might as well be. I'm dating one of them." Robert saiys and then yelps as the doctor pokes around.

"Nurse call a surgeon." He says quickly.

"A surgeon? Wait why do I need a surgeon!" Robert yells as the doctor places an IV.

"Because its lodged too deep. Way too deep." The doctor says. "If we pull it out now you'll be awake to see us destroy and rebuild your arm."

Her hands trembled intensely, causing her shoulders to shake. Kenton watched her softly, shaking his head.
"Get up. I'm taking you for a walk." He decided, standing up. "The boy will be fine." He added, pulling Jessica to her feet. "But you need to breath and keep breathing..."

"A--a--a wal--k? Wh--why?" She stuttered, trying to pull away.

"Because you are making Kee and I nervous. C'mon." He nodded, sliding his arm around her and preceded foreward. Keelan nodded slightly in agreement as he was slouched over, thinking about stuff off in his own little world.

"At least let them know where I'm at. Please?" Robert asks the nurse. "If you don't I'm not letting you operate."

"I'll tell them I'll have to find them though." She says. "Just let us put you to asleep."

Robert didn't get a chance before the doctor changed the IV and he went out like a light and the nurse walked off to the waiting room.

"But..." Her efforts were futile as she tried pulling away. Kenton's arm was firmly wrapped around her as he led her away.

"C'mon. Kee will be here incase anything happens. You need fresh air." Kent explained, leading her towards the doors before opening them.

The nurse walks in and finds Kee after Jessica and Kenton left. "You're here with the kid who was shot right? If so we have some bad news for you about him..."

Keelan looked up at her slowly as a yawn escaped his lips. "Uh... Yea." He licked his lips and sat up straight. "Bad news?" The man blinked, one eyebrow raised.
"He's alive... Right?"
Boy, Jessica would kill him if Robert died somehow. Whether it was his fault or not. Would kill him just because he heard the news before she did.... "Right?" He repeated, standing up.

"He's alive but he's going to have surgery. Now we haven't told him but there's a chance he's going to have some nerve damage. Are you relatives of his? If not we need to get in touch with them. He's going into the OR right now." The nurse said.
