Fvza Rpg > OOC Forum > Call For Creative People! Help!

Posted by: Arnold Johnston Aug 15 2007, 11:03 PM
Alright, here's the skinny guys. Right now I'm getting ready to start developing an ARG. For those of you who don't know what an ARG is please see for a very in depth explanation. I need creative people to help write a storyline/help as actors in the game.

If you were too lazy to copy and paste that link (or click it) the short version is an Alternate Reality Game (ARG) is a sort of puzzle/RPG that allows a player to interact with the game world in real life. You use your personal media experience to discover/solve/interact with the game world and the puzzles therein.

What I'm looking for are people who are willing to devote the time required (which is yet to be determined) to help this grassroots ARG get off the ground and hopefully become a national success. Now, I bet you're wondering about correspondence, aren't you? Don't worry about it. You've got the internet, and I have a vast internet resources. Mainly (for those of you not in the "Home" area) you'll be attending meetings via a VPN that you would have set up on your home computer. It would sort of be like NetMeeting if you've ever used that ancient piece of software. I really don't want to get too in depth here in the forum, this thing definitely won't be going public (or even be announced in any kind of official capacity) for at least a year.

Things that are already solid with the yet to be named ARG, the home area is the Baltimore/DC Metro area. Ideally this thing should get started there and then branch out. The areas that I'm really needing people to help me out with are the entire Eastern Seaboard from Virginia Beach Va. all the way up to Boston Mass. to include Richmond, Fredericksburg, Ocean City, Philadelphia, New York (and most surrounding areas), Hartford, and Providence. Additionally (hopefully) we'll be able to branch out to other large metropolitan areas in the United States (either in this run, or the next) but I'd like to stick to that area first.

Semisolid is the "genre." I'm leaning towards a dual faction story. Not sure what they'll be yet, but the players will be allowed to choose based on how they solve puzzles and then be recruited to one side or the other. I'm pretty sure that I'm going to stay away from any kind of zombie/vampire/supernatural stuff this time around, but all things are open for discussion. So, if any of you guys could help me out, would like to participate, or just shoot me ideas feel free to do so, or PM me and get my email if it's not public to the forum (or post here if you're lazy like me).

Just so you're aware, as I'm sure at least one of you will realize that nearly 70% of all grassroots ARGs fail miserably, this ARG is going to have one hell of a budget. I'm not willing to give a solid number, but I will give a range. Somewhere between $2,000 and $15,000 to pay for all materials to get this thing up, running, and going. And before you ask, unless you contribute something that is so amazing nobody could have gotten it without you, there is no pay in it (as of right now). This thing is going to be funded out of pocket and isn't going to be affiliated with any product whatsoever (unlike most ARGs). There will likely be no return from any of the money spent on producing this thing.

If you've made it this far and are saying "Well golly... I'd like to help, but I live in Chicago/LA/Idaho/Alaska/Hawaii..." don't fret. You might not be able to participate as a live actor (this time) but you sure a hell can contribute to the team. I need as many people helping on this thing as I can possibly get, and I want YOU!!!!

Thanks for taking the time to read this, and hopefully someone will want to help.

Yeah, I closer to the Chicago area so there's nothing live action I can do. But I'd like to help out a bit through the internet if I could.
