Fvza Rpg > Discussion of Board Rules and Operation > Faster Paced?

Posted by: Ashi Tohya Nov 24 2006, 12:18 AM
I know this might sound like whining (even to me it does) but am I the only one that sees the new missions are faster paced? Remember how on the old missions you could actually leave your computer for an hour and come back and the mission had progressed a little, yes, but it hadn't completely changed settings and you had to hurry and make your character catch up.
I'm not saying that our old missions on the old forum where slow or anything but they gave you enough time to think and type up a half good paragraph.
Is there any way we could maybe slow it down or atleast fix up a list of who posts after who to atleast slow them down enough for people who can't stay on the computer 24/7 can keep up?
Also I miss how everyone wrote in the good ol' paragraphs. I'm not saying that every post should be a novel but I don't like (Warning whine ahead) how some people post like: *I walked into a room* Hi guys.
I know, I know, I sound like a baby but I hope some of you guys atleast read and consider this short rant.

I agree with Ashi. I also noticed that the missions are faster paced, even though I was actually able to be on that night pretty much all night. It is annoying, but I don't see a way to fix it unless we just told peole to lay off a bit.

As for the novel format, I made the point of it in the old RPG and I will make it again.

WRITE IN DAMN NOVEL FORMAT YOU ASTERISK FREAKS!

Thank you.

How about we arrange a certain time that suits for everyone?

Posted by: Adminbot3000 Nov 24 2006, 02:13 AM
Ok turns out that I can restrict searches, but not posting. So all we can do is have a moderator manually approve all posts, which is sort of a pain in the ass and a bit restrictive. But anyhow aside from that all we can really do is ask members to cool it and then maybe post a guideline on it.

Posted by: Drunkentiger123 Nov 24 2006, 02:18 AM
what about my idea of organising a specific time? That way ill be able to post regularly. I was going to stop only because I will lag behind if i dont post for even a single day. If everyone knows for sure that no one else wil be posting when theyre not then im sure that will prevent much grief for everyone.

That's something to consider. So here's a proposal.

What we'll do is have two types of missions. We can have one type that you're only allowed to post in at certain times (say Thursday night for example) so as to cater to those of who can't be here all the time. The other type we could simply leave open to people posting in at any time so as to allow full freedom.

Another thing I'm thinking about is having some topics designated in a way that you can only post once every five or ten minutes. There's no real way to prevent the postings, but mods can always check the time stamp and delete posts as nessesary.

The time-specific ones could be a problem, since I'm GMT +12 hours.

Posted by: Cyber78 Nov 24 2006, 02:30 AM
Yeah that might be a slight problem. But I suppose that we could probably find a few times of day that would work as a bit of a compromise (particuarly if we set the times for weekends). Maybe even leaving open one whole day could make things easier.

For any missions we could have a sign up page and as people sign up make a list and once we start the mission the list that we have will be the order that people must post in.

Posted by: Templar Nov 24 2006, 03:07 AM
I like Ashi's idea. If we have a posting list and follow it, we will be able to restrict overposting by only a few members involved. This can be a pain though, as in the situation where two indiviudals are having a conversation and then have to wait for all others to report in to get anything out.

It will take longer, but will allow everyone their far share and greatly improve the quality of posts. Also, what if someone loses the internet for a time and can't report in?

Posted by: Drunkentiger123 Nov 24 2006, 03:08 AM
lets d othat then. i was all sad about havin to stop but it looks like itll turn out fine.

Yes! now I can regularly continue wreaking havoc with Guy Graphon!

As for the conversation thing, lets bend the rules a bit and allow pepole to post out of order when having a private conversation with another character.

Posted by: Cyber78 Nov 24 2006, 03:36 AM
Alright, here's what we're going to do. We're going to do Part II of the Death Manor mission in the sign-up style just described, and I'm going to put Templar in charge of that. However I'm requesting that we go with Drunkentiger's suggestion of allowing one-on-one conversations that are all thoughts and speech but no action to be allowed to go out of order.

This'll be a test run of the concept and we'll see how well it works.

I haven't had much RPG experience before, but this is getting a little boring, waiting around for whoever it is needs to post now (I think it's Dart).

Posted by: Cyber78 Nov 24 2006, 09:56 PM
Good thing it's still in the expirimental stages. Maybe we may need to skip over certain people if they don't add in after a certain amount of time or something.

Posted by: Templar Nov 24 2006, 10:55 PM
I second Cyber's proposial of skipping people.

Posted by: Drunkentiger123 Nov 24 2006, 11:18 PM
just wot i had in mind. if someone doesnt post for a day, lets let the next person take over.

and wht about the idea of only posting on certain days? i think thats a good idea.

Wow.... special.

[That WOW thing was fucked up.]

Frankly, I think you should stop bitching. You are whining. The best RPs are faster-paced, and that Moderator-Approved shit is ultimately what destroys half the RPs I've been in.

I'm going to simplify it.

Faster Paced- Creative Posting, have to change your actions based on others;
Well, duh if that's a problem for you OH WELL. The faster it is grants more and more amazing changes that could make a great storyline. Faster-paced means more activity, more activity means more RPing, more RPing means we survive, unlike last time.

Slower Paced- No creative posting, the story stays monotone because you can respond and change the event in a hearbeat if you can change it back to the norm, you get a crappy Story with a worse plot. If you want this because you don't get to post or something, be more active, I don't have that much time and I still manage to post enough. Basically this, Less posting leads to less activity, especially when there's shitty RPing, less RPing means less activity, less activity leads to no activity, no activity leads to us dying, again.

So, Quit. Your. Bitching.

EDITED BY Cyber78: Photo removed. It was funny, but I get the feeling that we've got a couple of little kids around here who shouldn't be seeing such stuff.

Posted by: Alaska Nov 29 2006, 06:21 PM
As funny as that is. I'm not sure it's appropriate.

Posted by: Rhodes Nov 29 2006, 07:09 PM
I'd have to agree... totally inappropriate for a public forum.
Especially with the potential to have underage minors looking at that.

Funny as it is.

Well upon seing what's all been going on I've reached this conclusion on how to best handle this.

We'll have two types of missions, one will include rules on post limits, stuff like that. I'm getting the feeling that these will mainly be vampire centric missions. The other type of mission is essentially going to be unregulated as far as how often you can post and when, these are likely to become zombie centric.

It's a matter of some people here prefer a more relaxed pace for a mission, and that's perfectly fine, no need to get nasty about their complaints. And then some people like faster paced missions, and there's nothing wrong with that. So as long as we can offer both I doubt there'll be any major problems.

I'd say that what I've just given is a pretty fair compromise, so unless there's some good objections out there that's how we'll do things.

Posted by: Templar Nov 29 2006, 07:46 PM
There is no need to get nasty Alaska, and Arnold... no need to jump on the bandwagon.

Posted by: Alaska Nov 29 2006, 09:36 PM
It's basically one or two members who will be doing the Slow-Paced stuff, as most of as are active enough to participate in the Fast-Paced stuff. That's why.

Posted by: Jay Nov 29 2006, 09:53 PM
Since I'm having an unplanned holiday off from school and exams (yay!), I myself prefer the faster-paced misions around this point in time, just as a matter of personal convenience.

That being said, I think the slower missions would be helpful when I do go back, since due to the time zone difference, you guys post just as I go to school and just as I get back.

That's just my opinion. Take it as you will. I think there's a strong enough case to support both slower AND faster mission types. Maybe posting an (S) for slow in the mission topic title or description would be useful.

Once again, this is just my opinion on the matter.
