Despite a fine individual performance Liverpool keeper Scott Carson saw his hopes of playing in the Under-21 European Championship ended this evening.
Starting in goal for England in the second leg of the two match play-off against their French counterparts Carson played well pulling off one exceptional save in particular from club mate Anthony LeTallec. However despite taking the lead, which gave them a 2-1 advantage overall England could not hold on. Carson was close to saving both goals and could not be blamed for his sides failure to go through.
The result is the second blow to Carson's progress in the space of a few weeks. With Liverpool also crashing out of the Carling Cup, a competition Carson would have featured heavily in, the young keeper will now have to bide his time for further opportunities.
The interest for Liverpool in this competition will now be focused on Anthony LeTallec who is currently on loan at Sunderland. Having arrived with a growing reputation the attacking player has yet to establish himself. There is uncertainty as to whether the player has a future at Anfield, but impressing with the French Under 21 side will help his chances.
