I have deleted a topic. Suggesting that people withhold donations to a charitable organization that does good and useful work in our community is not appropriate unless there is very good, verifyable justification for this in the public domain. Please consider this as "friendly" advice ..... this time.

Of course.

And any truly sincere animal lover in EL should thank you.

Nowhere, within my Post, did I SUGGEST that anyone withhold their donations. You did not read my Post accurately and as you are the Moderator, that is not a good thing.
I said that I and some others had decided not to make a donation UNTIL A FULL DISCLOSURE IS MADE BY THE BOARD.
What is wrong with that? Are other people not allowed to have their opinions if they do not agree with yours? Is this not a freedom of speech forum? Is this a closed society forum?
You should be questioning the Board of Directors, not me.
I said nothing wrong. I stated facts and my opinions. You owe my an apology and you should be reinstating my Post.

We are not children here Skylark, and this is not a school yard, the intent and malice in your post was obvious. Justifying a post by saying it is your opinion doesn't cut it either. If the board is to be questioned about anything it will not be on this anonymous internet forum. Any medium or large scale withholding of donations could prevent this organization from doing the necessary and good work that they do. I will not be party to that.

This started out as "friendly advice", it is now "fair warning".

Skylark, I read your post - thought it was very well written and thought out. I didn't see where anything was malicious - What came across to me was concern, and common sense. I would suggest you send your comments to the board for the charity you speak of - and perhaps this will get you answers to your questions and concerns.

As for myself, no-one's opinion would ever deter me from making a decision as to where to donate funds. I am capable of thinking for myself.

Maybe it wasn't spelled out, but I think the intent was pretty obvious.

And I haven't been able to find where somebody tried to "deter" somebody else from making their own decision re any charity. Maybe I missed it.

This is an organization that does good and necessary work. I do not want this forum to be any part of anything that makes that more difficult than it has to be.

It was insinuated that the post's intent was to deter people from donating - this is why I stated that no-one's opinion would effect my decision as to where, or where not to donate funds.

I respect the decision to delete the post, we are a forum of a small city, and easy understandably has to be a little more selective on items that are posted here, for that reason. I just didn't find any malice in the post, IMHO

Alright,

I have reason to believe the owner of Joe's Restaurant is doing some very bad things. Therefore I will no longer patronize that establishment until I know those things aren't true. I just want everyone else to know how I feel and to make up their own minds re Joe's Restaurant.

Hey, no problem with something like that as long as it's kept to oneself and not posted on a local forum for whatever personal reason(s) one might have with the owner of Joe's Restaurant, otherwise I think it's just backyard-gossip stinking of malicious intent, my opinion. And even worse if it's a valuable, local charity always depending on every available dollar.

The poster of the item that was deleted, stated the AGM was long overdue. NOT so......it has to be held within 18 months of a previous AGM...thus we expect the next AGM to be held by the end of May if not sooner. There will be a Public Announcement to that effect as per the bylaws...

Members will then be advised at that meeting of the Board's plans, past, present and future, and why certain decisions were made which until revealed, have led to some nasty rumours around town...

To be present at an AGM, you should be a member.

We renewed our memberships today, without reservation. :-)

The animals depend on the public's donations, or proceeds from the Sunshine Shop, fundraisers etc, for their care, spaying and neutering, paying the bills, and other needs....don't take your frustrations out on the animals...SAD really wants to be around for a long, long time, and although there have been changes over the past while, it is so that SAD can remain the place of refuge for unwanted, and/or abused animals who for one reason or another, have become "homeless"...

The animals are still coming in, and some are being adopted out...they are being cared for, others are there for Boarding, and others for daycare....

I too, have been frustrated by the 'lack of news" at times, but to be fair, the Board are also volunteers, and have been working diligently over the past few months to get SAD on a sound financial footing...again, I am advised that those plans will be revealed at the next AGM...we, as members, just have to be patient...

Meanwhile check out the latest SAD efforts to get the animals displayed to the Public at http://www.sadelliotlake.com ...and the new video ...all done by Volunteers I might add...and details of the latest fundraiser for which tickets are now being sold..details at the website above..

rothnie,
My first time here, but if a post has been deleted, how can you agree with its deletion without having read the article? --- I'm just curious! --- I wasn't able to read the actual post also, but as there there are possibly numerous interpretations depending on the individual reading the ACTUAL post, please don't just discard what the poster was possibly trying to impart. That is very detrimental in this small town of Elliot Lake where the futures of the many are being controlled by the few.

Welcome Pegasus, Nice to hear from a new person.

You are correct I did not see said post, but how did you know that?

My post had no hurt full intent. I am sorry if you read it that way.

I was only in support of Easy as the moderator. "No I would not know him if I fell over him!"

Essentially, it is the duty of the moderator to manage the day-to-day affairs of a forum or board as it applies to the stream of user contributions and interactions. The relative effectiveness of this user management directly impacts the quality of a forum in general, its appeal, and its usefulness as a community of interrelated users.
