Title: Question Why is it called Retirement Living

Why does Retirement Living call themselves and advertise as Retirement Living. Isn't that misleading potential retiree's into believing that the rentals owned by Retirement Living are only for adults only of retirement age, most retirement living places are for 50+. I question this because we were told this was retirement living, its called retirement living and yet my new neighbors are a family with very young children. If retirement living is not renting exclusively to retirees shouldn't it be called something else as its not retirement living when they rent to all ages.
Just wondering?

Great question, and yes easily considered misleading. However, they cannot discriminate...if a qualified family applies for a home to rent. It would be against the Tenant Protection Act. In some cases a landlord can elect to rent to people of only a certain age, but restrictions apply.

I understand they are not able to age discriminate but then it should not be called retirement living and focused on recruiting seniors. We were told if they rented to young people they DO NOT put them in homes next to retirees. I can live with that. However i did not sign up to live in KIDVILLE and forced to listen the the kids next door thumb, bang and all kinds of other noises, we are not well and need frequent rest periods and are unable to get those now because of the constant noise. I like kids but I don't want to live in KIDVILLE, I signed up for retirement living, a quieter more peaceful environment.
A little honesty goes a long ways. And when questioned it would be nice to get an answer and a resolve to the issue rather then a rude hang up......which is NOT PROFESSIONAL BEHAVIOR!

If there is unreasonable noise, you can complain to the police.

It sounds like you are hearing regular playing noise .... I know how frustrating that can be. My first apartment had a heard of elephants living above me. If you are getting hung up on (yes, extremely unprofessional), reduce your complaint to writing. If you get no response or satisfaction there, contact the ontario rental tribunal, I am not sure what they can do for you in this case, but in mine- I was offered a transfer to another unit (hardly fair, but I took it).

I am sorry you are not enjoying a quiet home to live it, it's the least we can ask for.
