Description: Boy Scouts

I'm just wondering if we have Boy Scouts here in Elliot Lake?

In the phone book published by the Standard under the Elliot Lake page you will find a list of community organizations and their contact numbers. If we have a scouting organization that's the place to find the info. Good luck!

Great organization for young boys. Sadly many of todays kids are not encouraged to join, not only scouting, but martial arts, army cadets, air cadets, any organization designed to challenge and teach skills. Then they wonder why the kids sit at home, get fat and complain there isn't anything to do

kids have too much to do because of all the devices. that's why they get fat :(

Thanks for your help!

Not to knock the scouts, I have no idea what they are like now, but my son joined years ago - hated it - all they did was play dodgeball and basketball. I believe it was due to a shortage on volunteers, which is a real shame.
My other son joined Judo, and absolutely loved it (unfortunately no judo in town now).
Marshall arts, dance, skiing, skating, hocky, swimming etc... - lots of great activities in town for the kids.

If your child is old enough (12 -18) there is a sea cadet corps here - free to join, no cost for uniforms, trips (only spending money), they get paid to be at summer camp...learn all kinds of skills, leadership qualities....international and interprovincial exchanges are all paid for....check it out on Tuesday nights from 6:30 - 9:00 pm at Georges Vanier in the gym!

Your forgetting army and air cadets also. You can see darla Hennessy about them joining. I know in air cadets they even get to fly.

Tam, Judo is still available and I can some info if you'd like. Ricky who was a member years back at the same time as my daughter, and Jeff, also a long time member have apparently started the club up again. If you'd like, I can get a bit more info for you.

Really? Awesome! Rick mentioned he hoped to re-open, didn't realize he had. That's terrific news :)

I am aware that there is an army cadet corps and also an air cadet corps in Blind River. All elements have their benefits. Check out cadets.ca for any information, or come by Vanier School on Tuesday nights to check it out in person! :)

Once again you speak about something that you know nothing about, cultivator. Jiu Jitsu is great when you are on the ground but judo is by far the best way to get someone from a standing position to the ground. Also if you knew anything about judo you would know that it also has many holds and chokes that are very similar to jiu jitsu. You also learn the proper way to fall in judo.

In order to be a complete fighter learn BOTH since they each have different strengths.

I don't think he'd have the discipline it takes to learn anything
