The WWE 'Hall of Famer', Jimmy 'Superfly' Snuka

Dan Eels: Hi Jimmy, how are you?
Jimmy 'Superfly' Snuka: I’m good brother, feeling good.

Dan Eels: How did you get your start in the wrestling business?
Jimmy 'Superfly' Snuka: Well I was a bodybuilder first in Hawaii where I would see some of the wrestlers training at the gym. Once I finished with my bodybuilding I got into professional wrestling. I had to go away and train, go to wrestling school and learn to wrestle. Ya know, you have to be very patient and learn the right way. You gotta work hard for it and be patient, you wanna become a wrestler, work hard, train hard and you need to have the heart and spirit for it.

Dan Eels: You started in 1969, in all of those years since what names would you say you had the best feuds with and that you drew the most money with?
Jimmy 'Superfly' Snuka: Ah, man, I would say Don Morocco, Roddy Piper, and erm, Bob Backlund. There is a lot I could mention that I can’t remember right now but those are the guys that jump out to me right now.

Dan Eels: Speaking of Morocco, the match that you and he had in 1983 at MSG in the steel cage has often been cited by guys like Mick Foley, Tommy Dreamer and Bubba Dudley as a match that got them into becoming a wrestler. How does that make you feel?
Jimmy 'Superfly' Snuka: You know, it’s a great honour, and makes me feel that I accomplished something that the kids looked up to and appreciate. I am just so happy that I can do stuff like that and have others get involved in it, and want to become a wrestler. I love it because I know I did something good for the wrestling business.

Dan Eels: What would you class as your greatest achievement in wrestling?
Jimmy 'Superfly' Snuka: I would say that my cage matches were the highlights of my career; you know its something that doesn’t happen too often. Those were the top of the peak then that you can’t ever forget.

Dan Eels: What do you think of the current WWE?
Jimmy 'Superfly' Snuka: It’s a lot different, ya know back then you had guys that were great wrestlers, great workers and were taking care of the business all making good money.

Dan Eels: What advice would you give to young guys trying to make it?
Jimmy 'Superfly' Snuka: The most important thing is to make sure you know what your doing and especially don’t get hurt, ya know, if you get hurt then that’s the end of your career. You gotta really take care of yourself and become somebody that you wanna become. Just be yourself and work hard and have faith, do what you think is right to do, if you really want it, it will be there for you.

Dan Eels: What would you say would be your worst injuries and did they ever make you feel like quitting?
Jimmy 'Superfly' Snuka: I have been pretty lucky so far brother, there was a time when i sprained my knee real bad and i tore both my triceps ya know. When I go for The ‘Superfly Splash’ the guy down there panicked and moves, I then have to move in mid air to protect my opponent and land wrong ya know. That didn’t make me wanna quit because I knew I could still do it.

Dan Eels: What does the future hold for the ‘Superfly’?
Jimmy 'Superfly' Snuka: Well I am in good health, strength and I am gonna keep going. I ain’t gonna quit ya know till whatever!
