Frequently Asked Questions
Have a question pertaining to your character or the board in general? Then please take a look at the list below first. If none of these answer your question, feel free to contact either one of the Administrators and we will do our best to help you out.
• Can I apply for an original character?
No, afraid not. Damascus Road has been envisioned like a canon-only board, and it’s highly unlikely that will ever change. There are so many wonderful, diverse mutants present in X-Men lore, and original characters are hardly ever so original.
• How long did it take for ‘Cure’ to wear off?
Approximately three years and eight months. Many of those who were cured, either willingly or forcefully, went back to living normal lives, or however normal they might be. Students from Xavier’s school weren’t expected to leave, though those who did have home and family to return to, did.
• What happened to Magneto?
No one really knows. Although he successfully eluded the authorities during the chaos that erupted on and around Alcatraz Island, he hasn’t been heard of or seen since. Considering he hasn’t emerged to reclaim what, in his opinion, belongs to mutants by birthright even after Cure wore off, many believe him to be dead. Lehnsherr was an old man, after all.
• How come Xavier returned looking exactly the same?
As stated in his character sheet, Charles had a twin brother about whose existence very few knew. He spent vast majority of his life in a persistent vegetative state, and a number of years upon Muir Island as one of the participants in Moira’s new, experimental treatment. Following the encounter with the Phoenix that resulted in her destroying the Professor’s original body, as well all know, Xavier transferred into the body of his brother and came back to Westchester a year later.
• How creative can we be with (Junior) X-Men’s uniforms?
Well, probably not too much. After all, the X-Men are the team; they do not merely act like it, they also look the part. We will be sticking to the black leather and kevlar uniforms as the X-Men have been known to wear in the movies. Piping can be any colour you prefer, and further slightly individualized look would depend upon the mutations and one’s needs. For example, Surge’s might be sleeveless because of the gauntlets. Naturally, there would be no exposed midsections or alike as seen in the comics. It totally defies the purpose of wearing kevlar in the first place.
• How can I get my custom member title changed?
Any member with at least five posts can change their member title themselves. You can do so by going to your control panel and clicking on 'Edit Profile info'. Highly inappropriate and offensive titles are not allowed; if we see anything like that, the said member will be banned without prior warning. Consider this your only warning, then.
• I’m interested in being a member of the staff and helping out with the board. Can I?
While we certainly appreciate the enthusiasm we’re not looking for additional staff at this point. When we do feel like we might need more people, we will approach loyal, driven members we think would do a fine job ourselves.
• How much leeway can we get with canon characters’ ages?
Depends entirely on a character. For example, we would most certainly prefer current New X-Men/Young X-Men to remain teenagers, and we’re generally against making any character older than he/she is in canonical lore. An exception to the rule may be a character who has been killed off a long time ago in comics, but it’s best to check with the Administration beforehand. On the flipside, we have no qualms with starting former students, such as New Mutants or Generation X for example, as students in our timeline as well, but we definitely don’t want to such creative liberties taken with canons like Forge or Banshee. Ultimately, it’s safest to run any deviations by the Admins first.
• Canon I’m interesting in applying for has physical mutations. May I remove those to make the character more realistic for movieverse?
Of course not. Realism flies right through the window in a setting that deals with mutants such as X-Men, be it movies or comics. The notion of physical mutations being unsuitable for movieverse is preposterous at best, and thoroughly inaccurate at worst. After all, if movies gave us a blue-furred beast and a man with giant wings protruding from his back, then we wish to see all the other canons with their physical mutations unchanged.
• Can I change certain canon’s powers?
If by change you mean tone them down, relate them to the canon’s age and experience – yes. Otherwise, no.
• Although inapplicable, do heroes and villains outside of immediate X-Men universe exist in this timeline regardless?
Only in the in-game movies, comics and alike. Superpowered mutates, and the response they typically get from the general public, simply do not fit into our vision of the world mutants live in.
• What about middle names?
Ah, that trend. Unless the character you are applying for has a canonical middle name noted on their official Marvel.com site, then please do not make one up yourself. We will only ask you to remove it, after all.
• Does the public know what kind of gifted students actually go to Xavier's?
Due to the events of our first board-wide plot, the public has learned the truth regarding Xavier's Institute and its students. You can read more about it here.
• Is X-Men Origins: Wolverine movie canon for this roleplay?
No. Regardless of what that movie would have one believe, characters like Scott Summers, Emma Frost and Remy LeBeau should have no connections to Weapon X or Logan's past. Similarly, should one wish to apply for Maverick, he should be of German heritage as he is in 616 universe.
