After a week that I am out-of-town in vacation, finally I get to sit down and write my first review for a card from the newest set. Since Ion took the cover card to be review, I will choose to review a card not from a new series of the set but from an old series: Black Feather.

This card, used by Crow obviously in the 5Ds anime, in the duel against "Dark" Bommer.
======================
SOVR-JP041
Black Feather - Silver Wind of Isolated
Dark/Bird - Synchro/8/2800/2000
[Black Feather] Tuner + 2 or more non-Tuner monster(s)
When this card is successfully Synchro Summon, you can choose and destroy up to 2 monster face-up on the field with defense strength lower than this card's attack strength. During the turn this effect is activated, you cannot go into Battle Phase. Also, once during opponent's turn, when this card s face-up on your field, [Black Feather] monster(s) on your field cannot be destroyed as result of battle.
======================
Art:
Although the illustration of this card is no different than the one in the anime...I just love to critique it...

At first look, ths "isolated" bird have the cartoonish look that does not scare anyone. If not that I know this card is from the 5Ds era, I would thought that this card was used by Pegasus or something (or, if not that I know that this card appears in the anime first, I thought the art is like MJ Tribute!). Then, it does create the silver whirl that opponent may fear...and of course the feather is black in color (duh?).

RATING: 7.4/10

Stats/Requirement:
It's a level 8 Synchro monster that have steeper requirement than usual: 1 Tuner + 2 non-Tuners. The Tuner must be a [Black Feather] one, which are limited to "four" (more or less 3) of them. Of course, BF does have [Gale of Hurricane] as the second-best Tuner in the game, plus there is [Blizzard of Great North] which can make things faster. The fastest "normal" method include using [Blizzard] to bring out [Foehn], then special summon [Blast of Black Lance] to complete the Synchro, but nowhere close to [Gale] + [Scirocco] for other level 8s.

Of course, the other option is to use the effect of [Vayu] to bring this card out...but I just do not see why someone would as the effect of this card is negated (and that's the only reason why you would even think about bringing out this card) and also it requires a [Black Feather - Armored Wing] to be in your Graveyard, which may not be the easiest thing (effect can killed Armored Wing, I know...but the fact that Armored Wing is not even close to being the best level 7 Synchro monster used in a BF deck hurts).

Anyway, for a level 8 monster, this card have the stats of 2800/2000, Dark/Bird. 2800 attack can kills most of the stuff that are play in the game right now (tie with [Goyou Guardian], if anything). Also, it is an important number for the effect of this card.

RATING: 6.3/10

Effect:
This card have 2 different effects.

The first effect triggered when this card is successfully Synchro Summon. It could pretty much read the way of "When this card is successfully Synchro Summoned, you can destroy 2 face-up monsters on the field" as not much monsters have defense higher than 2800.

HOWEVER, the next sentence may make you re-considered this card: you skip your Battle Phase. In a game where each turn is important since a game gone by so fast, losing a Battle Phase in the cost of 2 monsters just does not worth it most of the time. The monster(s) you chose to destroy are most likely either to have higher attack strength than anything you get in your deck, or purely you want to destroy them because they are annoying. In both ways, there are much better alternative to solve your problem that you do not have to skip the battle phase (cough cough Brionac cough cough).

The next effect of this card is that once per turn, this bird can flip its wings and create a whirlwind that blast away an opponent's attack on your BF monster(s). If looking at the stats of non-Synchro Black Feather monsters, they ARE pretty scary low. Also, with you destroy opponent's monster(s) already if you chose to do so, opponent will have a tough time breaking through your "wall" of Black Feather Birds, if there are any left on your field after the Synchro Summon of this card....

RATING: 5.4/10

OVERALL - 6.1/10 - I would say unless you are hard-core Black Feather player, this card would probably not even be the first choice of the Synchro monster you will bring to the field. 2 things, to me, make this card from decent to bad. The first is of course the steep Synchro requirement. Although there are plenty of times a player used 3 monsters to Synchro a level 7/8 Synchro monster, it is hard to do so in Black Feather deck. Again, it's not in the problem of special summoning the BFs, it's the problem of tuning it to the right level to Synchro summon this card...which could be hard. The second is the stopping you from battle phase effect...it just makes this card looks slow like the other Black Feather Synchros (don't tell me [BF - Armored Wing]'s effect is a fast one!). The effect of this card may looks good on paper, but the positives just cannot balanced out the negatives.

This card is good for Graveyard BF for only 1 reason, and that is it can beat Gorz.

Dark End Dragon just walks all over this card that it's not even funny
