I promised to write a card review on the Earthbound God/Earthbound Immortal (I did changed the translated name of the card to match TCG...just sounds better to me) like a month ago. What happened? Busy, as usual of my excuse. Now I will sit down and write 2 card reviews and hopefully more in this few days (topics? Core Chimail for sure...maybe another Black Feather...)
Anyway, before looking into other themes, this time, we would look at 1 of the 6 Earthbound Immortal that had appeared/will appear (?) in the 5Ds anime used by the Dark Signers. This card is used by Dark Carly, just in case you don't know. ============== RGBT-JP019 Earthbound Immortal - Aslla Piscu Dark/Bird/10/2500/2500 Only 1 [Earthbound Immortal] monster can be face-up on the field at once. Destroy this card when there is not a face-up Field Magic card on the field. Opponent cannot choose this card as target of attack. This card can attack opponent directly. When this card leaves the field outside of by this card's effect, destroy all face-up monsters on opponent's field, and deal 800 damages to opponent for each monster destroyed. ============== Art: There is pretty much 0 difference between this card's art and the anime art. But as like all the other known Earthbound Immortal, this card is a mysterious looking creature that is based on a type of animal (for this one: bird, specifically a Hummingbird, "Aslla pisc(q)u" means "Small Bird" in Quencha anyway). Well, as for the background...it is some kind of barren land like all the other Immortals with this card "bound" to it. I am not sure which exact Field card, if it exist, that the background is based upon, so I would stop my comment on this section here. RATING: 8.5/10 Stats/Requirement: Like all the other [Earthbound Immortal] monsters, this card is a level 10 monster, Dark Attribute. All of them have the effect text that require a Field Magic for these cards to bound on (or it is destroyed). All of them have the "restrict to only 1 on the field". Otherwise, this card is a 2500/2500 Bird monster, 2 tribute. Well, it's OK if you look at the stats of this card by itself. The power of this card does not come from the stats, however (OK...I'm spoiling next section). Is this easy to get out? Well, it can still be easily special summoned...if anything. RATING: 8.1/10 Effect: First, let's talk about the effect that all [Earthbound Immortal] monsters have: - Only one of them can be on the WHOLE field at once - Field Magic or Dead - Opponent cannot choose this as target of attack - Can attack opponent directly The first 2 are really drawbacks to this series of monsters. The first one is just to be fair...this monsters can get quiet powerful as you read in point 3 and 4. It may limit on how much you can do for a hand (you may have more than this Immortal in hand but cannot do a thing), also opponent can always do the flavor back to you by getting out an Immortal out himself/herself first. But those 2 does not happen often/just does not matter much. The 2nd drawback...people can think of a lot of Field cards that can help this card. The most obvious one is [Mausoleum of Deceased Emperor] which can help with the summoning of this card. Since this card is Bird type, one can always consider using it with [Harpy's Hunting Ground] if they feel like it. Otherwise, there is the idea of using this with Gem Beast (Rainbow Road), or Undead engine (Undead World). Now to the fun part...the reason there is the whole drawback to these cards is that one, it is painful for opponent to destroy it. Then, you can always just make opponent cry by every direct attack. 2500 direct attack is just great fun, and opponent cannot really do a thing about it. Now to the most crazy part about this card. You may ask, why I choose THIS Immortal to be review over the other? Well, it is because this card is just great. When this card leaves the field outside of because this card is destroyed by the own drawback effect, boom, Lightning Vortex + damages to opponent. Really, the effect said "leaves the field", no HOW it leaves the field. So, although the last thing you would expect is opponent directly destroy this card via his own effect and the effect of this card would activate (the faster way opponent would kill this card is by destroying the Field Magic), it happens and it is painful. What if he/she don't? It's not the end of the world. Here are just some easy combo (that kind of have synergy with this card): - Release this card for Advance Summon (not really) - Release this card for card effect, i.e. [God Bird Attack] --> This method have the old [GBA] which is good with Birds, but there is also the combo with [Nightmare Demons] that can easily deal at least 4800 damages by the activation of that card releasing this card alone. --> There is also the old [DDVM] and [Deck Destruction Virus of Darkness] that also works with this card - Interdimensional Matter Transporter...a.k.a. your good old friend Well, of course...opponent can always have nothing on his/her field and the effect becomes half-useless...but ehh, if opponent have nothing, you can always just have fun continue to attack him with this with less resistance. RATING: 9.8/10 OVERALL - 9.4/10 - Really, there is not much drawback to this card outside of what is stated on the card itself. This card is powerful because there is just not much advantage to opponent. It is painful to destroy it, and even if you DO, 90% of the time there would be a Vortex that hit opponent's face. The other 10% are 3 ways to make this card leaves the field without effect open but does not happen easily: destroy the field card or destroy this card while you somehow make this card face-down by card effect, but NOT by battle! (NOTE: Opponent can certainly choose this card as target of attack if this card is face-down), and return this card to deck. Otherwise, direct attack? Check. Protection? Check. Fair? Maybe?? |

I know this is a bit off-topic, but just for some information:
- The name of the language is Quechua (yep, you used an extra "n") - The name of the ancient Perubian tribe was Quechua too. "Inca" is just a "popular" name, but actually is the name of the King of Quechua tribe. So, when people talks about "The kingdom of Incas" they talk about the reing of the King of Quechuas. So, saying "inca" as the people of the tribe, is a misconception. Anyway, most of people will say "Inca" anyway, but doesn't hurt to know the real info... XD Note: "Quechua" is pronounced "Keh-Chua" Ok, I stopped the off-topic. This post has been edited by Valentin on Apr 1 2009, 08:24 PM |
