I dunno what kind of fucked-up karma is hanging over our heads to cause this, but the terror my roommates and I had to go through with the bitch at Action Realty is happening again with the guy at Hooks, the realty company we're dealing with, now.

Here's the deal: for some reason (we suspect someone got a hold of my roommate's private info after the VA in Oregon stupidly released it on their site, and is using it to commit fraud), some unaccounted-for and unauthorized charges have shown up on my roommate's account, and it drained away the money that was supposed to go toward paying the rent for the month, so the check we sent in for the rent was returned. Not only that, but the bastard at Hooks failed to send us the total of the remaining utilities charges that we needed to pay, so he's claiming that we never paid that, either. So, as a result, he's trying to evict us.

Fortunately, unlike last time, we have a slight edge; we've got plenty of dirt on him with this deal, including a potential and very enforceable lawsuit against him for falsifying documents (we have it in writing that he would provide a stove for us, since the house didn't come with one, but he never did, and we had to buy one for ourselves after a month of waiting), so if he tries to pull any funny business, we can nail him for it. Still, this is definitely not a good sign, especially this late in the season.

I can't believe we're having to go through this crap. We CANNOT afford to move out, again; we don't have the finances, and besides that, my roommate's health isn't up to it. We need a miracle, here, seriously; two evictions in less than a year is nowhere near what we need, right now.

.....I'm starting to think that a curse was put on you when you were born. No offense.

I would figure out some way to catch whoever is committing fraud w/ your roommate's account, first. Maybe the Hooks guy will shut his hole if you can catch the person & get the money back. Then, if the guy's still being an asshole, go ahead & glue a subpoena to his face.

My roommate is already looking into getting the bank to investigate the fraud, right now, so that's no problem. We also seem to have the Hooks guy over a barrel, as the moment my roommate mentioned the fact that he falsified federal documents in regards to the stove he never got us, he shut right up real quick.

It's still gonna be hell for us to try and get through this, but at least we have some ammo to fight back in case we get screwed over again, unlike the last time with the bitch from Action Realty.

First of all...sorry that you have to go into this mess again. For one thing, 90% of the Apartment Realtor/Management companies are rip-offers (I can't think of a better word) so I know what kind of asses you are dealing with.

Really, it's crazy that this is not the first time you post about this type of stuff...2 in a year is just purely insane.

Good luck...that's all I can say. I mean, how you guys got into this mess is not my business and really, I bet the realtors had listen to enough of this excuses anyway...

Not just two in a year, but two in the span of two MONTHS. That's really, really bad, unfortunately.

Like I said, though, we now have some ammo to fight back with, if need be, and we're looking into other ways of getting this settled. It's just going to put us back further than we thought it would. We just can't get evicted; we can't afford it, and my roommate's health won't allow it.

Update: well, it's quite obvious now that I'm still here; we got the bastard paid off, directly, with cash, and got a receipt and a copy of the papers canceling the eviction, all to make sure he can't screw us over (and we have everything we need to get him, if he tries). However, here's the catch: the inspector that my roommate called in to check out the house for a VA grant (it's a long story, but the gist is we need to get this house fixed up badly, we might be able to get help from the VA for that, but we need a price quote on how much it'll be, first) said that - like the pricks at Action Realty (the last real estate people we worked with), Hooks is only interested in their own selfish greed, and knows they can always sucker a desperate family into the house.

So yeah, good that we now have some real dirt on the bastard to protect ourselves with, but bad that it seems like every local Indiana business is corrupt to the core.

Well, at least that's ONE problem solved.....

Have you guys found out what happened to your roommate's VA account? Any thieving little pricks arrested over it yet?

Not yet, unfortunately, but the bank's looking into it, don't worry.

EDIT: Okay, NOW you can start worrying; the bank STILL hasn't found the culprit, yet, and two MORE unauthorized purchases have appeared on my roommate's account, so he's having to change accounts to block the guy. Needless to say, we're getting sick of it.
