Seriously, I got nothing. I'm truly shocked and I kept searching around for something like he was just in a coma or something instead of believing fucking sensationalist TMZ.

Part of my childhood, my life, my generation and my culture is gone and I'm sure a lot of people who didn't care about the controversy over the man himself feel the same.

God Be With You and Rest in Peace, Michael Jackson.

It's sad. Used to like the guy, well for Thriller.

All of us will miss him. His white skin, his nose, his voice.

I'm not as old (and not born in US), but still...his singing, dancing, etc. sure influence a lot of today's culture.

I really do not cared much about the controversies...every "superstar" will have one depending on what they are...

RIP MJ, and your nose.

I am shocked and sadden to learn that Michael Jackson died. I grew up on his music and videos and I will feel joyful that he left this world with an impact that will last for many generations. Thank you Michael.

Man, I don't know where to start. This man wasn't a part of the 80's culture, he WAS 80's culture. And make all the jokes and accusations you want, I think this sums it up best:

QUOTE (Dave Chappelle)
He Made Thriller

Seriously, though, the world has lost of it's greatest artists, and I am going to miss him.

In case you were curious, my favorite song of his was Smooth Criminal.

Scream (with sister Janet). They Don't Really Care About Us, or Man in the Mirror for me.

Really, there's too many songs I grow up with and EVERYONE knew the words to in school to act like there aren't other favorites, but those three have a personal resonance.

EDIT:

A blog I read (that I will not mention out of personal reasons and protecting a friend's identity) said it best.

QUOTE
"George Orwell once said that a man has the face that he deserves at age 50. And while I’d agree with that sentiment as it relates to just about every single post 50-year-old walking the planet today — think Dick Cheney — I’d have to take exception with how that curse applied to Michael Jackson.

Dead at 50 and with a face that no one should ever have had to contend. Mike’s adult face was actually a mask. A direct creation of self-hatred, plain and simple. That and the way our own ghoulish fascination with his self-loathing spurred him on. An obsession that was prodded, secretly I think, by that part within each of us that dislikes parts of ourselves: wrinkles, sags, spots, dots; imperfection. Given unlimited wealth and time, Michael could nip, tuck, tweak and freak to his heart’s content. Only he could never get away from the self-loathing.

But enough bummer talk. Michael was a true blue puer aeternus … and no self-respecting puer, worth their essence in gold records, should ever live into his fifties. Michael was just taking leave on cue, true to his mythology. It makes perfect sense to me."
