Title: Guildpact
Description: Spoiler

DecendingGodOfHardcore - January 13, 2006 03:33 AM (GMT)
oi, some of the cards got spotter over at www.Mtgnews.com.

all I have to say is that Teysa is my new lover. lol

:dancingfoof: Teysa + Savra :dancingfoof:

lol

well anywho, there are alot of RFG type cards in Guildpacts, im really liking it. :D

Ion - January 14, 2006 04:51 AM (GMT)
Sigh...so far...Orzhov disappointed me (Life Drain is going nowhere...and I don't see anyway to utilize Haunt good...)

Doesn't matter, though...more toys for my G/W/R Aggro...(Salesnya cards are quite good, Boros cards are good...and so far, Gruul cards is quite good also...)

BTW...partial spoiler is available at MTG Salvation (http://www.mtgsalvation.com)

P.S. Savra + Teysa pwns...

Dawn Yoshi - January 14, 2006 05:44 AM (GMT)
Wizards obviously wants you to run Gruul, and they obviously don't like Orzhov that much (sans Teysa, who is just awesome). I actually love how I've only seen three good izzet cards too (niv-mizzet, guildmage, electrolyze). :/

wtf, the only revealed counterspell is horrible. Thanks! Blue officially sucks ass now in ravnica block. :(

Ion- the B discard haunt ability with Sakura to rob an opponent of a turn when they're topdecking. It's also basically a free 2 for 1. That 1WB haunt cleric is horrible though. Its ability is relevent in this current environment, but good luck pulling off that haunt effect. :/

Ion - January 14, 2006 06:03 AM (GMT)
Well...the main reason Blue suck is that...Azaroth haven't come yet!!!

So far, the set doesn't seems to interest me much...unlike Ravnica, where cards aren't really THAT good (I only find about 10 cards good for constructed), it get interesting. This set is just boring...GOD...get Mark Gottlieb to design them...that'll surely be fun...(Voice: He's one of the designer of Dissension...so...just wait)

But...as far as I know, I'll probably wait for Dissension with Baron's favorite Control freak guild (U/W), a very interesting combination (U/G), and my favorite destruction freak Rakdos (B/R)

Bottom Line...Dissension >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Ravnica + Guildpact...

Dawn Yoshi - January 14, 2006 09:14 AM (GMT)
Dissension has already been proven to own everything because it has two U guilds. :)

I mean, Azorius senate? Faith's Fetters and counterspells in easy access with a dual land? Yes please. :D

And Teysa still rules. I mean, a 2/3 for 3 that has an ability that makes all of your weaker black creatures better when they die. I mean...I think Champions of Kamigawa proved that flying token generators are pretty damn good. ;)

redbaronii - January 14, 2006 03:45 PM (GMT)
dawn: I'm actually pissed that I still have to actually WAIT for my favorite U/W guild...

That aside, from what I had seen for now, the 3 guilds are really imbalance in this set. Wizards seems to be printing on the pack "play GRUUL!!" since there're only few interesting cards for others (you had named all of them...).

All 3 mechanics in this set is weak anyway...I mean, Replicate is expensive, Haunt is really "lame" (the abilities are not interesting), and Bloodthrist is just...WOW, "godly"... :lolfoof:

But no matter how bad Guildpact is (which there's still 60 cards yet-to-be-spoiled which can always contain another Skullclamp), it's still better than any of the recent Yu-Gi-Oh sets... :off:

HAIL TO DISSENSION!!! HAIL TO THE SENATE!!!

P.S. Too bad Wizards is hosing Blue pretty bad...I mean, they give us some stupid abilities that are just...lame...I WANT MY COUNTERSPELL!! (It's just funny to see my friend's pissed off face when I first play using the Blue 7th Ed. starter that have the godly Counterspell and Magpie...)

P.S. Meloku is among those "few good blue creatures", and that -1/-1 Haunt card can surely kills all my Illusion Tokens...

DecendingGodOfHardcore - January 17, 2006 01:57 AM (GMT)
Haunt wont see alot of play, but some of the effects are preaty decent.

When you combine G/W/B making a Selehov deck you can get a preaty nasty game going. Token Generation + Pump up + More Pump up. Can't be too bad. Im actually interested more in the RFG cards than anything else. Devouring Light for a 3 cost white is preaty good. :) combining that with Teysa and the ability she has to already remove. man, thats just dirty.

yea, blue isnt doing too great right now but what can you expect its set is dissensions.

and i dunno about you but W/U/R can be game quickly. Especially If you replicate cards like Lightning Helix. I mean seriously a 2 cost 3 take away plus 3 giver x as many times you can replicate it. jeez. it really makes it hard to win. Of course itll take time, but look at BUGDOZER not many will think its good, but i think it rocks. :)

just give it sometime.

and yes they are pushing the R/U alot especially since the sealed tourney for the prerelease, the hardest guild to make will be W/B/G.

if your playing this in sealed, then you better have alot of luck especially to pull the cards you need for it.

Ehh...probably more than Soulshift...

As for G/W/B Selehov, Teysa is just lame in the deck...(although her stats is not THAT great...but that's for all Guild champions)

As for Blue, I don't know...Wizards is making Counterspells more "expensive" (mana-wise), no more Instant card drawing (just look at the replacement of Inspiration to Counsel in 9th), the creatures always suck (except few of them). Maybe we just get use to Blue being dominant.

As for UWR...I mean, there's still 60 cards yet to be "spoiled". There's always chance of a crazy common anyway...

DecendingGodOfHardcore - January 17, 2006 05:22 AM (GMT)
oh defently, we wont know whats up till the list is completed. Not to mention alot of us will be ripping up packs come saturday / sunday. :)

I really cant wait. I hope I or one of my team partners pulls some out. I just cant wait to experiment with the stuff.

and yea, i guess blue is just too used to and needs to be let down from its pedestal once in a while.

Dawn Yoshi - January 17, 2006 09:28 AM (GMT)
I'm probably going to be getting some decks constructed come this weekend after the prerelease.

Seems like Orzhov may be a powerful route in limited for this weekend. Honestly, I have no idea what to expect with constructing a deck via draft...lol.

On the note of BUGDozer: 5 decks in the top 8 of today's mtgo premiere were bugdozer. A lot of them were running Doppelganger. My deck started a trend. Sweet. :D

But people still insist on playing 4-5 color manascrew.dec. It's annoying as sin. I lost to one round 1 due to running out of time thanks to server lag. First premiere where I didn't top 8 in block constructed. :/

redbaronii - January 17, 2006 05:14 PM (GMT)
DGoH: You know what sucks? No prerelease in my city (Austin, TX)

As for Blue, really, they just freaking need to balance the colors anyway (which is still not happening, just i.e. Green still being just supporting cast most of the time)

As for draft...I don't know why Wizards seems to encourage people playing the Mad Scientists, but from what I had seen spoiled, Orzhov owns in limited (and sucks in Constructed)

DecendingGodOfHardcore - January 17, 2006 11:10 PM (GMT)
itlls take time.. Watch, eventually the guild will get its come upins, we still have 1 more set to go before we call it quits on a perticular guild.

If i remember correctly, Every Color is suppose to have a specific Rare Aura.

Flicker form = White
Dream Leash = Blue
Followe Footsteps = Blue
? = Red <-- i seen it i forgot its name though.

Green and black never got an enchant aura i belive. so we need to see what comes up.

redbaronii - January 18, 2006 12:34 AM (GMT)
DGoH: Maybe this...from Salvation...(in GP)

Wurmweaver Coil
4GG
Enchantment - Aura ®
Enchant green creature
Enchanted creature gets +6/+6.
{G}{G}{G}, Sacrifice Wurmweaver Coil: Put a 6/6 green Wurm creature token into play.

DecendingGodOfHardcore - January 18, 2006 02:32 AM (GMT)
oh yea, i know that they are making them, but in ravnica there werent any green or black, so GP - Dissension we might see something kool coming out of thouse colors. :D

thats not a bad aura either. I hope the text doesnt stay the same though. cuse that really restricts its uses considering the last aura's werent color specific.

redbaronii - January 18, 2006 05:25 AM (GMT)
All I would say here is, after the preview of Ghost Council of Orzhova...I would say...

Orzhov should be better than most people think.

Still...there's a need for White-token generator...REALLY bad! (token is not Orzhov thing...which is BAD!)

DecendingGodOfHardcore - January 18, 2006 06:21 PM (GMT)
most def, I like the fact that this time around both legends are actaully small.

4 cost for one and 3 cost for the other, Orzhov has something to prove, I hope it does good. I just cant wait!

Dawn Yoshi - January 18, 2006 07:58 PM (GMT)
Within a few days, Orzhov got a mad rush of amazing cards added to their already decent line-up. Gruul got powered down and I can laugh at that. omgomgomglollolololololololzzz!11111111

Orzhov > Gruul, yeah. Sad part is:

Elemental Heroes = Izzet.

:(

redbaronii - January 18, 2006 09:04 PM (GMT)
dawn: I don't get it...how Izzet = E-Heroes??

Orzhov power is just amazing, especially in this few days with great Orzhov cards "revealed" (cough cough Souls of Faultness) and Gruul cards nerfed (cough cough Wreak).

Now just have to think which of Selezhov or Golgazhov or Selegolzhov or pure Orzhov is better...

P.S. Orzhov arts are amazing!

Dawn Yoshi - January 18, 2006 10:51 PM (GMT)
Izzet, like the E-Heroes, are really flashy dressers who overall aren't that competitive, though a few of their cards don't consist of the suck (Wildman, Jaggey, Necroshaman to Guildmage, Niv Mizzet, and Electrolyze). Hopefully blue will get some kind of nifty counter. Just one damnit, so blue can actually be played without being based off of ridiculously unstable cards in block (eye of the storm). :(

DecendingGodOfHardcore - January 18, 2006 11:24 PM (GMT)
I still cant figure out the Sins of the Past + Eye of the storm combo.

lol

man Orzhov rocks.

I still cant figure out the Sins of the Past + Eye of the storm combo.

lol

man Orzhov rocks.

The idea is that when you cast sins of the past when eye of the storm is out, you'll probably have a TON of instants/sorceries in your graveyard. The effect of Sins of the Past allows you to "PLAY" an instant or sorcery in your graveyard without paying its mana cost that turn. Sins of the past gets imprinted onto Eye when it's played.

This means that when you play the spell targeted by Sins of the Past, it will trigger eye and will become removed, as well as place all other spells under eye of the storm on the stack (including sins of the past). All of the spells for Eye of the Storm can be played by you now, and the last spell that should resolve from eye is sins, targeting another instant/sorcery. You can then play that spell, and all of the spells under eye get played again, etc etc etc.

Basically, it's investing 6 mana to play aroudn 3487623745237423 spells that turn. Boy, it's a storm's dream come true. rofl.
The idea of winning is that you will get to where you can be casting compulsive research around 2-3 times every time eye of the storm triggers. Once this occurs, you start targeting your opponent with those compulsive researches. Eventually, your opponent will deck out because of the number of times you can resolve compulsive research (which will probably be around 10-12).

It's a cute combo, but it shouldn't be viable in block. Decks are either too quick, or they just have a method of dealing with Eye (like playing an instant in response to the eye user playing an instant, which allows you to trigger lots of things...). Oh, that, and Dimir Guildmage basically rapes any late-game deck. Badly.

On that note, I actually want to try the Eye/Sins deck for standard as of GP, once we get gigadrowse. With some heartbeat/harvest acceleration, the deck may actually feel like a mind's desire/brain freeze deck in standard! :D

OliverPhoenix - January 21, 2006 05:54 PM (GMT)
I took a look at the Guildpact spoiler a few weeks ago and just took another look now and noticed new cards, but is it me or is there some humorous card names in this set?Droning Bureaucrats?Restless bones?Tin street hooligan?Rumbling slum!?

Still I don't play Type 2 much anymore but I look foward in playing sealed with this set,I like the Vampire stuff flavor wise like Skeletal vampire but why can't Yugioh have something like that : / .

redbaronii - January 21, 2006 06:06 PM (GMT)
oliver: Just icing on the cake...

MORE?
1. To Arms!
2. Stratozeppelid (WTF is that??)
3. All 4 Nephilim...
4. WEEEEEEEEEEEE Dragonauts

I mean, the names just sounds weird, I have no idea why.

As for the mechanics...I mean, Haunt (the Orzhov mechanic) would be great (and kind of broken) in Yu-Gi-Oh...and it ACTUALLY work!!

Dawn Yoshi - January 22, 2006 06:27 AM (GMT)
Never play in sealed for magic. That is the lesson I learned from two sealed pack events. I always pull medoicrity and my opponents get like 50000000000000000000000000000000000000 forms of removal. :/

Granted, I still 2-1-1ed the prerelease with my piece of shit deck, but still...(Oh, and one of those wins was against a deck that luckily got glare).

OliverPhoenix - January 22, 2006 03:23 PM (GMT)
I,ve played sealed on and off for years and years but it is very true,I still have bad nightmares on opening a amazing starter and boosters for a Urzas saga block sealed tourney and then after writing the contents down on a piece of paper having to move seats to then obtain someone elses crap cards...I was literally robbed blind and did badly in the tourney.

Still this set is making me want to break out my dusty foil vindicates X D.

You and me both man,

this week i pulled shit. complete and utter garbage.

well it wasnt garbage, just it wasnt ment for sealed.

look at these rares.

Memo??? [the one blue 4U replicate that can fetch out permanents from the opponent and let you play them as your own.]
[Gruul Phoenix, the one with Bloodthirst 3]
Stich in time
Light of sanction
circu, dimir labotimist
mindmoil

I only pull 1 creature destruction card, Brain spoil.
4 mediocre Orzhov Cards, Masks, 2 bats, 1 guildmage.
a few decent green cards, Silhana feltcher. Wild Cantor.
4 of the 5 Mage marks.

etc.. preaty much the deck would be going everyware. and i only got 2 wins., 1 bye, 1 actual win, and i lost 4 times.

crap, crap, crap.

seriously, i rather stick to constructed. :D

go!! BUGLOKUSAKASHIMA deck!

redbaronii - January 24, 2006 05:28 AM (GMT)
DGoH: You actually can WIN with those cards?? Wow...I'm impressed! (Since that is REALLY a horrible load of cards)

Don't ask me anything about draft however...I had never play draft (even if I try very hard to find some draft tourneies), and even if so, I always have bad luck especially in sealed pack anyway...

DecendingGodOfHardcore - January 26, 2006 06:31 AM (GMT)
I find draft a bit more formidable than sealed.

If all the packs are crappy then oviously everybody is gonna run decks to as far as they can. But if the packs are hot, man its so much fun.

but yea, amazingly enough I scored 1 actual win with the crappy cards. I beat a Token Nephelim Deck. it was 1-0 then next thing you know it was 1-2.

I burned the hell out of my opponent with burning Ursalka?? the 1 drop R
"r, Sacrafice a creature: deal 1 damage to target creature or player."

man, even though i had a crappy set of pulls I had a blast, I even got to use Stich in Time. lol, talk about being Jonouchi in a magic Tournament
