Hi everyone:
For over 8 years, I have been working in things related with entertainment. There, I discovered that making things the people would enjoy is what I really like to do for the rest of my life.
As I previously told you guys, I tried to be hired by Konami, to work in either Organized Play or R&D. My relationship with the company is pretty good and it seems like they think I would be a good candidate for that, but some issues (mainly, getting a work visa to live in the US) made this pretty unlikely to happen at all.
And in case you are guessing: No, my country doesn't have any games-related company. The last one went into bankrupcy about 1 year and a half ago.
So, I took an important decision: I'll start a game's company myself.
My first game, will be an online, browser-based one (it's less expensive to develop and has immediate "global distribution" by being in internet).
Currently, we're still discussing about the type and genre of the game. I have an idea, but first, I have to check if people would find it appealing enough to play.
So, I'll explain my idea to you guys, and you are welcome to give me your opinions.
To put it a simple way, imagine this as a mix of browser-based games like DreamWorld or Legend of the Green Dragon, with Pokemon/Final Fantasy Battles, and the "Greed Island" game from the Hunter X Hunter Anime.
=================================================
1. STRUCTURE:
It will be similar to games like Legend of the Green Dragon, and Dreamworld. In case you don't know them, imagine the following:
A Website page with a "map" with options:
- Go to City A
- Go to City B
- Go to the Barracs
- Go to the Shop
(with images, of course).
When you click at them, you don't enter into a RPG like in Pokemon or Final Fantasy. Instead, you enter to a new page, representing the place by a new background, with a character giving you options as other places to go in the city, "explore", etc.
Instead of having to "walk on the high grass" for random encounters, you can instead click in the option "look someone to fight" in the place you currently are, to fight against a random oponent of that place.
So, in some places you could just not battle at all, and you will not spend time in annoying random encounters when you want to do something else. Of course, if you are in a place like a forest, and click "explore", it COULD trigger a random battle.
2. GOAL:
It will work like the "Greed Island" part of the Hunter X Hunter anime.
Each player will have a "Binder". It will contain a fixed number of "Imposed Slots", and "Free Slots".
The goal of the game, is to fill the "Imposed Slots" part of your binder, that will contain cards numbered from 000 to X (I haven't decided the final number). Those cards can be obtained by completing certain quests, defeating certain enemies, buying them on the in-game shops, buying them from real life players by an in-game system, or "stealing" them from in-game players (I'll explain that later).
The "Free Slots" can contain anything, because every item will be represented by a card.
Once you completed the binder, you will be named "King" of the country/Kindom/whatever it is, and although you can still play, finish other quizes or whatever you want to increase your character's level, you will have to wait until a potential "Episode 2".
3. CARDS:
There will be several types of cards in the game:
First, the typical classification:
1. "Equipment" cards: Those will increase the different stats of your character.
2. Consumable cards: Those that you use once and then they're spent.
Second, the more specific clasification:
1. Impossed Slot cards: Those can be "Equipments" that boost your character stats, "awards" that don't affect your stats but unlock certain features, and some few, VERY special ones that are consumables.
2. Monsters: When you defeat a "wild" monster, you can add it to your "Free Slots" as a card. During a battle, you can "use" the monster, so it will fight your enemy for you, and regardless the result is, you won't keep it afterwards. Though, you will be able to use only 1 monster per battle, most of monsters will only have 1 single Attack, and you can't use other kind of attacks until the monster finishes, or you release it.
3. Recovery Items and Self-Boosting Items: Self-explanatory.
4. Robot: Yeah, you can ride a robot. It will be a type of equiment that will work basically as a shield with different attacks than those you have. Instead of receiving physical damage, the robot will take it for you. Once the robot is destroyed, the card is lost, and you continue fighting by using your physical attacks, unless you use another robot. You cannot use physical attacks while you're inside the robot, but since you can use items, you will be able to summon monsters.
5. Fighter Clothing: basically, martial arts equipment, that boost your character phisical and "energy" attacks.
6. Weapon: Equipment that replace one of your attacks while you have it equipped.
7. Spell Cards: Special cards that can affect the battle, or allow you to do certain things to in-game players. There won't be any spell card that causes physical damage.
8. Objects: Usable only during a battle. When you decide to use one during a battle, you are simply throwing it against the opponent. They inflict an specific amount of damage, altered by your physical attack and accuracy.
4. CHARACTER FEATURES:
First, these will be the different stats a character will have:
- Level
- Current Exp (And Exp for the next level)
- HP
- EP ("Energy" or "Ki" points)
- Ammo
- Fighter Clothing
- Weapon
- Robot
- Speed (probability of hitting first)
- Evasion (probability of evade the attacks)
- Accuracy (substracts evasion)
- Attack
- Defense
- Fire Power (increases damage of the weapon attacks)
- Dexterity (increases the stats when using the robot)
- "Taming" (increases the damage of monster attacks) (I can't find a good name for "being a good tamer")
5. CHARACTER CLASSES:
I don't know about you guys, but I'm pretty sick of "Human, Mage, Troll, Elf, Dwarf, Undead"...
These are the classes I propose for my game:
1. Fighter: Imagine it starting as a "Ryu wannabe", but as the time passes, it transforms into a God-Mode Goku. It's the strongest class in terms of physical strenght.
Main stats: Attack and Def.
Main Items: Fighter Clothing.
2. Weapon Expert/Hunter/Shooter (I can't find a good name): Weaker than the fighter in terms of physical power, but pretty good with weapons.
Main stats: Accuracy, Evasion and Firepower.
Main Items: Weapons.
3. Summoner: Pretty weak in terms of physical strenght. They break the rules of use of monsters. They can use up to 3 monsters per battle, and monsters aren't lost after battle.
Main stats: Defense, Evasion and "Taming".
Main Items: Monsters.
4. Robot Pilot: Pretty weak in terms of physical strenght, too, but are those with best ability at using the robots.
Main stats: Speed and Dexterity.
5. Average: Average in every aspect, with no special boost in anything. In exchange, they have a faster access to anything.
Also, depending on the character you have chosen, you will receive an starting card corresponding to their main item. In the case of the average class, he will receive a sub-version of every starter.
6. BATTLES:
Basically, they will be like in Pokemon or Final Fantasy: turn-based.
The options would be:
- FIGHT (Clicking here will show you 3-4 possible moves).
- BINDER
- RUN
7. OPPONENTS:
There will be at least 2 kinds of opponents:
- "Wild" Monsters: They have very few attacks, are easy to kill, and can be added to your binder.
- Players: Much like the in-game trainers in Pokemon, they can be a player of any class, using any of the features that I explained. You can use some Spell Cards to attack and/or protect yourself from them, and even steal cards of their binders.
But beware: at certain points in the game, some of them will be using Spell Cards too, so your cards might be in risk too, unless you use some protection.
=====================================================
That's it, basically.
What do you think guys?
Sounds ok; needs a little ironing out, though. For instance, just why is everything usable in-game in card form? What's the exact reason for filling up the binder?
The classes, except the Average one, sound slightly reminiscent of Dungeon Fighter (one of the only MMOs I've ever played so far).

Unfortunately, I'm not familiar with most of those.
Thanks for the opinions a-hole...any opinions are welcome :)
Now, I'll answer some of your questions...

Well, people that knows HxH anime could understand it easily. Anyway, I'll try to explain it:
Imagine that you are a guy that enters into a Virtual World, where your goal is to win the game itself, either to space or for glory.
Here, instead of having just a bag where you can get anything...everything in this world can be transformed into a card, that you can store into your binder.
Besides this "logic" part, is also for aestitics and simplicity...is easier to have just a big binder with all the items being represented as cards, instead of having several pockets with different shaped things. Also, the binder will look cool (I hope :P)

Good question. Actually, is just to give a goal to the game. Once you fulfit the goal, you are considered to have completed Episode 1. Of course, the in-game explanation, might be something like these:
- You awoke with no memories about yourself, trapped in this world, where the only way to escape to the real world, is to finish the game and become into a king, so you can order to get the card to go to the real world. OR, the complete binder opens a way to escape to the real world, etc.
- You are told about a contest where you can earn a bunch of money, by completing the binder. The only thing "they" didn't told you, is that winning the game is the only way to leave that world...
- You are hired by a powerful, rich man, or a business group, to get an specific item in the game, and bring it to the real world. The only problem, is that you're only allowed to bring that item to the real world if you win the game...

Actually, that's just a coincidence. Those classes are actually an original idea, based in the different styles of character that people likes, besides things like Orc, Demon, Undead, Elf, Dwarf, etc...

Hehe, it's ok.
Thanks for your opinions =)
