Title: Card Review #280
Description: Book of Total Solar Eclipse (TDGS-JP062)

Finally I have the time to type up the latest card review.

This time, I would actually choose to review a Magic card. It's been a long while since I actually review any Magic/Trap card, so this card must really appreciate the chance.

So why a freaking Magic card (when they, with Trap cards, are WAY harder to review than monsters?). Well, I did call this card the "worst" card in my article...and will I change my mind?

Art:
Total Solar Eclipse = combination of the Sun with the Moon (Moon "covering" the sun...ask your Science teacher/professor if you really do not know what the heck is a Solar Eclipse).

Well, as for the art, first...it's a book...which it is shown. As for the color, Red + Blue = Purple, just that obvious. If you think combining the art of the two ancient Books, you get this book...by Magic.
RATING: 7.0/10

Stats/Requirement:
It's a Quickplay Magic, meaning that it can be activate at any time outside of Damage Step...Quickplay is ALWAYS the best of the Magic types anyway.
RATING: NA/10

Effect:
This card has 2 effects. One is the "moon" effect and the other is the "sun" effect.

The "moon" part of this card is that this card turns everything on the field face-down. Well...few good ways to use this card.

1. Metamol Pod, Chaos Pod, Needle Worm, all Flip effect, all loves for you to recycle, you flip all of them together face-down...
2. Red Demon's Dragon: read the effect...next
3. Dark Assassin...look at the effect
4. (From Synjo)Those Reversed-Effect monster...just speed things up.

I would now first go into the "sun" part...at End Phase, all opponent's monsters would be turn back face-up and the drawback of this card is that opponent get to draw extra cards.

Of course, at first when I read this effect, I thought "terrible...this thing drawback is just stupidly too much". Well, I think about it a little more and think this: this card is just not for everyone. Without some skills and setup, this card is crap...it take the correct situation.

To avoid opponent EVER getting a card while seeing him/herself in disadvantage?
1. Red Demon's Dragon or Dark Assassin clearing field
2. Metamol Pod...that is, if you activate this card at opponent's turn, opponent then get his thing back face-up, draw card(s), then boom...no more hand

Really, one thing I think about is that, opponent cannot really hurt you with those Extra cards if you activate this during opponent's turn. If you activate this card during your turn, you better have a plan.

At last, this card is nice with [Light of Desert], nice with any Flip effect monsters, you can always [Appropriate] opponent (or [Greed] him). At minimum, if you are that desperate...this card can serve as a 1-turn stall card (although it can backfire badly and can be costly). At maximum, you can purely DESTROY opponent and you can deck him fast...

RATING: 8.0/10

OVERALL - 7.6/10 - All I would say is, this card IS the "worst" card if you do not have a clue how to use this card. However, is this card "worst" card in TDGS? No way...not after I think about this card's effect more and more. [Book of Moon] was restricted for a reason...although this card have kind of a huge drawback, the effect of this card is a beauty...it can make or break a game, literally. Why the score so low? Well, this card can get situational...and there is better cards in this game to stall up opponent's attack for a turn than this card. However, this card is way nicer than the old [Sealing Swords of Darkness], etc.

I'm somewhat surprised (and honored) that you remembered my suggestion with using BoTSE with the "Shadow" monsters.

I agree that it's pretty much made for Red Demon Dragon/Dark Assassin, but at least it has some decent uses outside of them. Hell, this is practically Lightsworn's worst enemy: you keep them from activating their most devastating effects, and at the end of the turn, not only does the opponent have to draw for BoTSE, but they're also forced to mill their own deck for all the Lightsworns they have on the field.
