Title: [DS] YGO World Championship 2008
Description: Discussion, Debate, Info and Questions
Shinobi Phoenix - October 7, 2007 09:47 AM (GMT)
I figured I'd just go ahead and start this since the game is coming out as quickly as November 29th of this year.
Strange too, TWO EX games in the same year and one of them rather not even it its own year.
I'm sure a lot of us are thinking the same thing.
"If the game is coming out as soon as 8 months after EX2007, how much of a change or improvement could they really make?"
I, for one, am worried about the memory and what the game is really expected to be capable of. It has story mode, so that is taking up space, Tag Duels, likely still Wifi dueling (not confirmed), and then of course we come down to the heart of the matter of ALL YGO games: available cards. What we get and what we don't.
So I figured along with any ideas, I'd start the discussion on (of course) what people ACTUALLY want to be in this game. I believe the Promos of 2007 will be popular and wanted in this so I don't see why they shouldn't be in.
For myself, my personal wishlist is as follows (not in entirety, just the important stuff, monsters only):
-----------------------------------------
- Destroyer Dragon Gandora
- Phantom of Chaos (I believe him to be likely, would be at the top of my list except for my loyalty to Gandora)
- Ultimate Sealed God - Exodios
- Fallen Angel Nurse - Reficul
- King Mist
- Thunder King - Raiou
- Chimeratech Fortress Dragon
- The Big SATURN
- Marquis of Darkness - Belial
Omega Heartless - October 7, 2007 06:21 PM (GMT)
don't worry, gandora is most likely going to be in it(it's pretty old now so it's most likely going to be in there....though for all of the new cards that you chose i kind of doubt it...but then again i kind of don't doubt it either

When I first brought up this latest installment, I guess everyone felt that same sentiment, Shinobi, since only one person commented on it at the time. :penguin_22: Not only is the memory space something to worry about when considering all of the things promised in this game, but since it's coming out so early, it stands to reason that some or all of it could be a gigantic rushjob. The card selection is the major concern; between the regular game mode akin to the last 2 WC games, the new Story Mode, and the new battle animations (the only confirmed one I know of so far being Rainbow Dragon), one should be REALLY worried.

Does any one else think its pointless to include all the volume series normal monsters in the game? i mean their in it but theres only one archfeind and grave keeprs cheif is missing.

They likely do that so they can build crap decks for the early Duelist opponent.
It IS a pain yes, but I guess they want to ensure an challenge curve.
a-hole w/ 9000atk - October 9, 2007 03:41 AM (GMT)
You're both referring to WC2007, right?
Anyway, I hope that this game comes with some sort of extra data pack or something (someone on Janime came up with that idea); otherwise we might get screwed.....

I'm referring to most YGO with the EX mode, but especially the ones with storylines.
EX2008 has a storymode, so they'll be the normal crap duelists to go through with crap decks and old normal monsters.
a-hole w/ 9000atk - October 10, 2007 01:45 AM (GMT)
Hopefully this won't have a lot of those crappy monsters; WC2006 doesn't have too many of them, so maybe this game won't, either. I don't know about 2007, though, so feel free to correct me.
Shinobi Phoenix - October 10, 2007 07:06 PM (GMT)
Does anyone know the technical specs for EX2007? Or where to find the specs set up for EX2008?
A few friends of mine have been discussing over the cartsize of the game since that would how much we can expect out of Konami as far as card list.
From what I know, Nintendo and other companies have been switching from the original 128mb flash card to the new 256mb size, but no one seems to know whether or not EX2007 already was a 256 one.
Of course, it makes a great deal of sense to have EX2008 be 256 if they haven't changed over, but it's an equally scary thought if they already did.

EXODIOS!!!!!!!At least something I wanted is confirmed without even a hint of doubt.
Also looks like Armityle (via Download), Raiser (Rizer), at least Eye of the Typhoon out of the Cloudians, and at least 2 of he 4 EX2008 Promos are in-game (Dimensional Confinement -
great... and Agony of the Strong).
Deep Diver though, I wonder why no shot was given for it.
I strongly hope the theory about Game Promos never really being in their own game doesn't hold true. If Agony and Cheap-Seku are in-game,
they might try to FUCK ME on PHANTOM OF CHAOS!! That would drop any interest I have in the game by half, though, Exodios is a pot-sweetner. Still, I really REALLY want to play around with Phantom.
a-hole w/ 9000atk - October 29, 2007 02:08 AM (GMT)
Those screenshots hold a lot of promise, so here's to them not making a giant fuck-up to counter it....
At least we get Exodios in it. ^_^
Adam5 - October 29, 2007 09:46 AM (GMT)
Exodios+Armityle FTW !!! :penguin_7:
Shinobi Phoenix - November 26, 2007 11:21 PM (GMT)
According to
Konami of America's site (obviously it's in English, click for direct link), EX2008's date is December 4th, of this year.
Anyone else realize that's literally NEXT TUESDAY? When did this sneak up?
Anyway, people on GameFAQs have been pulling apart the commercials with a fine-tooth comb to see what cards are in-game to confirm now and so far we have.

I "green-lighted" the cards that I assume others would be interested in knowing are there.
SURELY, Barbaros would get a lot of attention from members of this forum, as well as Chimeratech Fortress Dragon (which I promise I will be using along with Exodios, no, not in the same deck).

i see fusion decimation on there do you think the johan duel pack cards are in it?

I think a bigger thing to notice is Blazewing Butterfly.
As in the TCG-EXCLUSIVE, in-game. That means Grandmaster, Rocket, Gemini Summoner and maybe even Octavius (even if he sucks).
a-hole w/ 9000atk - November 28, 2007 02:56 AM (GMT)
WOO-HOO! This may mean that Dragon Ice is in there! Cool.
Shinobi Phoenix - December 3, 2007 06:47 PM (GMT)
I'll have my copy of the game Wednesday. It's already preordered through Gamestop, so I have to deal with release date vs Street Date crap, so Wed instead of Tues.
Meantime, I saw a few more confirmed cards and I'll share them here.
- Raiou
- Evil Hero Lightning Golem
- Dark Fusion
- Dark Calling
- Yubel (yes, Yubel, at least as a Duelist, not sure about as a true card yet, but we'll see)
the rest that I've just seen confirmed by people on GameFAQs, I am ONLY posting the NEW stuff that wasn't in EX2007 or Caller or Nightmare or just generally new.

From one of your "what the hell is that":
Ambush Fangs
Normal Trap
Activate only when a face-up "Venom" monster you control is declared as an attack target. Negate the attack and end the Battle Phase. Then place 1 Venom Counter on the monster that attacked.
And no Zombie Master? That's odd... but *shrug* plenty of other things in there esp. if they can squeeze it and the 2007 cards together.
a-hole w/ 9000atk - December 3, 2007 11:24 PM (GMT)
o_O The character customization's nifty enough, but I see that they still insist on leaving out certain cards......hopefully they'll decide to make those downloadable. Either way, I might be able to get a DS soon, so I'll make a better judgement on everything once I get my hands on it.
Shinobi Phoenix - December 3, 2007 11:36 PM (GMT)
Something else I can happily confirm because people have been doing it already.
ONLINE TAG DUELING!!!!
Tag Force and Tag Force 2 just because synonymous with Shinies. Graphics are nice, but we can get it elsewhere easier.
I can't wait to try that out with some friends, I'll have to start planning accurate team strategies.
One should note that a Death Wombat can protect both teammates from all "damage" (Battle and Effect). So if a burner was focused on protecting Wombat, with their partner on on offense and helping guard yours, you can be very well protected.

Of course, this is when we HOPE that the DS Tag Dueling does NOT have the same rules as RL.
This is because RL Tag Dueling falls prey to burn so freakin' easily it's not funny.

How do the rules from Tag Force series differ from the RL rules? I'm just assuming EX2008 uses the Tag Force rules.
I haven't played Tag Force for obvious reason (I haven't owned a Sony product for YEARS).

I don't know.
The only rules I know are the RL ones, and from that I know that the RL rules suck something fierce.
SynjoDeonecros - December 5, 2007 12:54 AM (GMT)
Basically, Tag Force tag duel rules play like a traditional 1 on 1 duel, but with the players switching every turn. So, say I start out first: I set some cards and summon some monsters, then when my partner's turn arrives, he takes over the field and plays it like the cards already on there are theirs (meaning any cards of mine sent to the hand or deck during my partner's turn is sent to their hand/deck, instead). It's fairly awkward, honestly.

Asking for clarification. What you describe just now sounded very similar to the Pair Duel concept shown more recently in the anime. Is Pair Dueling from the anime similar to the Tag Force tag duel rules?

Yeah, it looks the same.
a-hole w/ 9000atk - December 5, 2007 03:35 AM (GMT)
In Tag Force/2, both players share one regular-sized field; in UDE's RL ones, both players share a double-sized field. A double-sized field allows more broken combos between players than if they were to share a normal field. I'm not sure where I stand on which sounds better, however, but since Konami's doing this, I'd assume that the Tag Force rules are present.
SynjoDeonecros - December 5, 2007 04:38 AM (GMT)
Honestly, I prefer the UDE version, since - as I've said countless times before ever since the rules were posted - I've played by similar rules before, and I had no problems with them. Then again, if I recall, the rules I played by were mostly taken from the anime tag duels, and I suspect that UDE just refined them for official use, so yeah...
One thing I don't agree with, though, is the "limited/semi-limited cards only for players, not teams" thing; that just opens up a whole lot of unfair cheap-ass combos.
Shinobi Phoenix - December 5, 2007 11:46 PM (GMT)
I just got home with my copy, I'll make a report after I've played both modes for a while.
However I do like they got rid of a few annoyances, like the shortened names and paying just to change your image.
Also, I like they finally let you choose your card placement now (likely for the Zone-System cards from CDIP), or just disable it again to go on auto.
Shinobi Phoenix - December 10, 2007 04:34 AM (GMT)
Let's play a game.
It's called "How can you spot a cheater?"

Can you tell?

Shinobi Phoenix - December 25, 2007 05:16 PM (GMT)

I'm showing this from my own game taken with my own camera (phone) as proof Thunder King (Raiou) is in fact in the game.
Now, the problem is...
HOW THE FUCK DO YOU GET HIM?!!!Apparently, he's in the game, but unobtainable WITHIN the game itself.
It won't even count toward Card Completion, which means to complete the game, having him is completely unnecessary. And he's not restricted to my knowledge (as in in-game).
This implies he's either a Download Special, or be at an event, or worse, you have to link this game with another game, like some future game.
So, this opens a lot of questions, first one being:
- Why did they single out Raiou?!! He's literally up there with the God Carsd as far as his availability with the game. Why have Raiou and not Mist King?----------------------------------------------------
Off-range thought:
To anyone who looked at the pack lists:
Did you notice that Cyber Dragon and all of his stuff EXCEPT Overdragon are all
in the VERY last pack?!Proto-Cyber, Cyber End, Cyber Twin, CT Fortress Dragon, all last pack, but OverDragon is separated from the rest in a pack that is 6 packs earlier than the rest.
Sister Princess - December 25, 2007 08:18 PM (GMT)
Cyber Laser Dragon is even earlier than Chimeratech.
