8/30/10 In the course of our discussion of the Jaspideus complex Marcus Coltro of
sent the coalition numerous pictures of the C. jaspideus group in their database. Marcus cautioned "I know there is some incongruence here since these are from different dates and we did not revise this group yet."Among the shells were the following: ![]() The data for these shells was "12223 and 12221, Conus pealii Green, 1830, Jacksonville, Florida, USA, 14.4mm and 16.3mm." 8/30 After reviewing Marcus' shells and coming across the above specimen I wrote: "Hi Marcus, Sure appreciate you providing this material. I’d have no basis to question the material and ID’s of material outside of Florida, but I do have problems with the ID’s and data of the Florida material." "In the “others from Florida” group, 12223 and 12221 as from Jacksonville would be very suspect to me. Can you rely upon the data? Maybe, Harry can comment, but I don’t think he’s been able to document anything like this from NE Florida. I’ve not seen anything like them outside the Keys." |
