From St. Vincent, about a quarter-inch across. Suggestions?

Well it's a lucinid. I would think it's probably a juvenile Parvilucina costata, but I don't really know.

Seems like a pretty good call. Thanks.

If this is a juvenile and P. costata, then it'll make some dramatic sculptural changes by maturity. Who knows?

Many lucinids look very different as small juveniles, that's one thing that makes them very tricky to ID. My suggestion is just that, a suggestion. I could be wrong. However the sculpture on the left hand side in this shot looks rather like that species.

My first reaction was maybe Trigonulina ornata, but I've never seen one and they are reported as deep water. Ribbing also does not quite fit.

I have found a couple of valves of Trigonulina ornata on Nevis and this is definitely not it, not even close. Plus that species is way smaller than 1/4 inch, more like 3 mm.
I am certain this is a very young juvenile lucine, and am still leaning towards Parvilucina costata. |
