The LTS Administrator for the Index to Species generally follows the taxonomic classification, naming, spelling and authority reflected in Malacolog, A Database of Western Atlantic Marine Mollusca, maintained by Dr. Gary Rosenberg, The Academy of Natural Sciences.

To the fullest extent possible posts presenting discussion of Western Atlantic Marine Mollusks will be edited to reflect species names consistent with Malacolog. To the fullest extent possible format will include recent synonyms for easy reference.

Names assigned to non-Western Atlantic Marine Mollusca species by posters to LTS are accepted as valid by the LTS Administrator.
