I need some help with the ID of this shell. While getting oysters to eat I came across this shell ( 10mm ) that was attached to some oysters. Never seen anything like it before. Another find from the Indian River in Edgewater,Florida.

Looks like Diodora cayenensis to me, esp. since you found it in the intracoastal.

You never cease to amaze me with what you find in the lagoon so far from the inlet. You've got to take me along once.

Thanks Marlo- that was my first thought also. This was so strange finding one now. For 30 years I've got oysters in the back waters and never found one of these. I do look at all the oysters I get also. Do you have a cayenensis that you could post a close-up of for me to look at. I've got several that I've looked at close and they still don't look like the river one. Guess I'm still hopeing for something new one day.

Marlo you don't have to post a picture. I got my microscope out and what I found is a juvenile. Never seen a small one before. This shell was about 14 miles from the inlet.
