Title: Matanzas Inlet (NE Florida)
Description: Checklist with image links

Marlo - July 12, 2009 08:07 PM (GMT)
Matanzas Inlet is at the southern end of St. Johns County, Florida. It is a small inlet with constantly shifting sand bars not particulaly hospitable to shells. During minus tides, except for the boat channel, you can walk completely across to Rattlesnake Island. However, the sand bars directly inside the inlet are composed of rough sand and shell rubble partially in suspension causing it to act like quicksand in many places.

The list was started by Joel Wooster and Marlo Krisberg. Contributions are solicited from all who have collected at Matanzas Inlet. Just click the user posted image button (above or below) and post a list of your finds.

Check back to this post as it'll be used as a MASTER LIST of everyone's ID's with updates, corrections and added images. This list is moderated by Marlo. Post your finds and ID's and they'll be added to this MASTER LIST. Where possible names have been hot-linked to images of the same name on LTS or Jaxshells. Unless specifically identified as a Matanzas Inlet shell, none of the images are of shells from the Inlet. These links are meant only to facilitate IDs. Each species name is followed by the initials of the persons who have found the shell at the Inlet.
