January 1294
The snow shows no signs of leaving, but paths have been cleared so it’s not quite as much of a nuisance as it could be. The temperature drops sharply around the fifteenth and makes it so cold that it isn't pleasant to head outside at all, so most people avoid it altogether. Things show no sign of warming up until the very end of the month.
February 1294
Things continue looking up as the temperature begins to climb! While the snow isn't about to start melting yet, the cold snap's over and it's bearable to head outside once more, much to everyone’s relief. There is one last light snowfall on Valentine's Day, but by the end of that week the temperature has started climbing again and it seems like spring is on its way!
March 1294
Spring is on its way indeed, as the temperature continues to go up through the first few weeks of March until the snow begins to melt. Unfortunately melting snow means muddy grounds and big puddles, so now it's impossible to get across the courtyard or the grounds without tracking mud everywhere - it's disgustingly dirty, to say the least, but at least it's warm. By the end of the month you can even see grass through the mud!
April 1294
April showers bring May flowers - unless the April showers have drowned them all, which is what it feels like happens this April! Beginning the fifth and through to the twentieth with only a few days breaks here and there it feels like the skies absolutely open up and it pours. While it doesn't rain as much as it feels like it does, it certainly rains more than its fair share, and the rain doesn't help the mud problem much.
But! Puddle jumping, anyone?
May 1294
Now that the rain has stopped it does indeed seem like the saying is true - the grass begins to grow, the trees seem to suddenly sprout all of their leaves, and it looks beautiful and green outside. It also warms up a great deal over the course of the month so by the twenty-fifth it's all blue skies and sunny days, and warm enough that students don't really feel like being cooped up indoors all day.
June 1294
Warm, sunny weather that hints at the approaching summer – yay! Aside from one small storm on the tenth, the skies remain clear and cloudless and the weather remains warm and inviting right up until the end of the month, when it just starts getting hot.
July 1294 The heat continues to rise through July, broken up by thunderstorms throughout the month. The storms are unpleasant to be out in, but at least they cool things down for a couple of days – if only briefly. The storms stop towards the end of the month.
August 1294
August is HOT and dry. The month seems to drag on because the days pretty much consist of the same unvaried heat and by the time September rolls around, almost everyone is ready for autumn because it means a break from the dry heat.
September 1294
September begins unusually warm. The hot weather continues until approximately September 16th, when a thunderstorm hits Hogwarts. From this point on its cooled off considerably, but it's still warm out - closer to pleasant-warm as opposed to I-need-to-be-in-the-shade-or-the-lake-to-prevent-unfortunate-fainting-spells hot. As the month draws to a close the temperature continues to fall and by the last week of September it actually looks like autumn outside as the leaves on the trees begin to turn golden.
October 1294
Though this month starts off unusually warm, the tail end of the heat wave from September, the temperature continues to fall until it's closer to the usual cool weather. It begins to rain at least once a week and the leaves are quickly being shed from the trees - overall, not a pleasant month. Halloween is a cold, clear night, and it's obvious that winter is just around the corner.
November 1294
The weather continues to be miserable throughout the first two weeks of the month, the temperature hovering just above freezing while the rain continues to mist down - it isn't always raining, but it is almost always overcast, and essentially is depressingly chilly outside. On the twentieth the first snowfall of the year occurs - only a couple of centimetres, but enough to make it seem even colder outside than it really is. The snow remains on the ground until the second snowfall on the thirtieth. The temperature drops at this point enough to make a hat, warm cloak, and gloves necessary for venturing out of doors.
December 1294
With snow on the ground already, it already feels like winter, but by December 10th it seems like nature is determined to make sure no one forgets winter is really, truly here. Light fluffy flakes begin to fall on the tenth and continue until the thirteenth, at which point there is nearly a foot of snow on the ground - a heavy snowfall, to say the least, and perfect snowball fight weather! The lake is frozen solid by the twentieth and perfect for skating. It isn't so cold out that it is impossible to venture out of doors, but you've got to make sure that you're dressed warmly all the same!
