This teaching stuff wasn't as easy as he had anticipated it would be, and the brats children were annoying exuberant to the point of homicidal tendencies exhaustion for the poor new teacher.

Part I: Scratching the Surface:

Name: Clover Lindsay Hainsworth
Age and Birthdate: 15 // 21st February, 1278
Blood: Somewhere between half-blood and pureblood [mother: half-blood, father: pureblood]
Class: Middle/Upper common
Wand: 11” holly, dragon heartstring core, stiff
House: Ravenclaw
Reasoning: Clover is very much an introvert. She keeps to her books, mostly, and hasn't been known to be very outgoing (although she is getting better at that). Plus, some may say she's a bit of a teacher's pet.

Part II: The Past

Clover Lindsay Hainsworth was born in the middle of the afternoon near the end of February. Her mother, Lindsay Hainsworth, used a midwife for the birthing, as she did not particularly want to deliver this child on her own as she had done previously. Mrs. Hainsworth was quite a strong-willed woman, but after experiencing so much pain and stress after the first five children, she decided to let someone else take responsibility this time. Clover came into the world kicking and screaming, but did not stay that way very long. During the first few nights of her life, the Hainsworths were afraid the tiny girl wouldn’t make it, as she had been possessed with a fever that seemed quite serious.

Luckily the two eager parents got through the first week without further incident, and Clover’s health increased shortly thereafter. That was good for the family, as Lindsay stayed at home with the children all day, but Reginald Hainsworth, Clover’s father, had missed a decent amount of work staying home to care for Lindsay and Clover, and headed back to work at the local wizarding paper as soon as he was able. It wasn’t that Reginald didn’t care for his wife and children, but the family had to be provided for somehow, and with Lindsay out of work that would never happen without him. Even though the Wizards Council had begun perfecting many of the spells of the age, somehow no one had thought to try a spell that created various bits of wizarding money. That would be quite helpful to families such as the Hainsworths, although it might place the economy in a bit of a bind.

Growing up, Clover had many things to keep her busy. School was one thing Linsday Hainsworth made sure her children attended, and the young girl was ushered off every morning to the local school. That school was, in all actuality, just an open cathedral where the elders of the town decided to share their knowledge with the youngest of the population, but the children did get an early start on their writing and arithmetic. Clover’s favorite part of the daily lesson was literature, of course.

On her tenth birthday, the tiny girl was ecstatic to learn that she would be allowed to attend Hogwarts early. (Early in the sense that none of her siblings had decided to attend until age eleven.) Each and every one of her siblings had attended Hogwarts, and, to be honest, she had been waiting for her parents to give her to opportunity since she was nine. She could hardly contain her excitement as her mother calmly asked if her youngest daughter would like to attend the school that coming fall as the family sat ‘round the table. Wide grins accompanied each face as she nearly screamed 'yes!', and she began packing her things immediately, with help from her sisters Ethelda and Rebecca.

The floo trip was something new altogether for Clover. She had never traveled by floo powder before; every trip the Hainsworths had ever taken as a family had always been done with the use of a portkey. Most of the time it was something simple, but large, as her immediate family was eight strong. Emerging from the fire into Hogwarts was an experience in itself, as Clover was still a bit frazzled from the trip and needed a moment to catch her breath as she walked into the Great Hall. Toting her bags, she barely had time to drop them off with the other first years before being hauled into the Opening Feast and up to the platform for the official Sorting. The girl wasn't overly surprised about where she ended up, but simply smiled and took her place at the house table beside clapping and cheering classmates.

Clover made many friends early on in the school year, many of them firsties like herself. They were all (or at least many of them) in the same boat, it seemed, coming from home for the first time and being suddenly tossed into this environment with a group of strangers and expected to learn and live together for the next few months.

She fell in line easily with the classes that were required of her, not finding much time to place herself in many extra-curricular activities because of the course load she chose. Of course, as a first year she didn't have a whole lot of leeway into what classes she took, but what little choices Clover did have she made them count. Over the years she excelled in most of her classes, only falling behind in Potions (mainly on her BAD exams) and deciding that she would stay away from that class for the remainder of her time at the castle unless it proved highly necessary. Transfiguration seemed to be her favorite course of study, and she always found herself practicing various incantations in her dorm between lessons. She had great success with her practice overall, only managing to flub up once. During this particular charm, Clover somehow started with a plain white teacup and ended with a wooden goblet sprouting daisies.

The only times Clover ever really engaged in any after school activities were the days she could be found in the stands of the quidditch pitch, cheering on her team. She had never really had a knack for quidditch herself, but found watching the sport quite fascinating. Up until her second year, the girl had never really flown on a broom properly, and was amazed at the antics and stunts of the students that did loop-de-loops in front of her eyes during a match. The girl vowed that if she ever got brave and decided to hop on a broom and try something like that, she would cast a memory charm on herself.

Part III: The Present:

Physical Appearance:
Clover looks young for her age, to say the least. Perhaps it is the way she carries herself, like a little girl. Granted, her actual features hint enough at her age to keep a passerby from confusing the girl with a ten-year-old, but not a whole lot. Her looks are pretty general; nothing really sets her apart from other English girls. She has no distinguishable features aside from the small birthmark on the back of her left knee, and one would have to be looking for the mark to even notice it when she was standing.

Her blonde locks are not too long, not too short. Straight hair was something she had been "blessed with" all her life, so Clover had gotten pretty used to spiffing it up in various ways. Sometimes she pulled it back in a ponytail, but usually you can find the girl with her hair hanging lazily over her shoulders, unrestrained. Her nose is small, accented often times by the square-framed brown glasses perched on it during her reading. She also wears the glasses during class, as to make sure she can see the writings the professor shows to the class.

Her complexion is fair, with skin that is neither extremely pale, nor overly tan. She isn’t very prone to many outdoor sports, although she does enjoy watching a quidditch game or two. Every once in a while you can find her outside, but she is never actually engaging in any physical activity. Perhaps if flipping the pages of a well-worn novel were considered a sport, the girl could go to the national competition. Blue eyes are often hazed over, lost in thought as she strides down the hallways of home or school. Some people say that their eye color changes with colors of clothing they wear, but Clover isn’t ‘blessed’ with such a trait. The eyes of Clover Hainsworth are blue, all the time, whether she wants them to be or not. And they never vary in shade; never blue-gray or blue-green. Always just plain blue.

When she is around the house, the girl can often be caught in her favorite outfit, a floor length light blue dress with white trim and accented details around the collar and hem. She tries to keep the remainder of her wardrobe fixated around this particular article of clothing, so many of her other clothes share the same general coloring and style. Perhaps her favorite portion of the dress are the bell sleeves that open up around her wrists, as they make her feel very graceful. Her face is oval, her cheekbones often highlighted with a natural glow (Clover wears no makeup of any sort nor does she use magic to alter her appearance). Her posture isn't perfect, nor does she try to make it so. The aura surrounding the girl is very relaxed, and she doesn't take extra precautions to make herself look good in front of others.

She stands at a boring height of 5’2”, although a lot shorter than most of her relatives. Mrs. Hainsworth, Clover’s mother, is the only other woman in the family under 5’5”, so the girl goes to her mother when she needs to feel a little bit better about her looks. The Hainsworth clan has a tendency to look odd as a whole, pretty much lacking in any features that would distinguish one as a Hainsworth. Clover’s cousin Judy is blonde, tall, and lanky, while her older sister Rebecca is 5’6” with red hair, green eyes, and freckles.

Weighing in at one hundred and four pounds, Clover can easily be classified as a tiny girl. Like most teenagers, she hates her appearance half of the time, but has grown to embrace her size for times when she feels the need to be alone. Being small can definitely help a young girl who is looking to hide in a closet and read in the candlelight without being disturbed.

Personality:
Clover keeps to herself, to say the least. Although she grew up a part of a rather large family, with three brothers and two sisters, the fifteen year old found that she was so different from her siblings in so many ways that, after she turned eleven; there was no joy in playing with them anymore. Granted, she was the baby of the family, with the next child being two years older than her. As the youngest child, Clover had to take many things she thought she shouldn’t have, such as sharing a bedroom. The girl had always thought that the baby of the family should be the one who got their own rooms, along with the oldest, of course. The middle children should have to suffer the agony of sharing a bed with their sister, in Clover’s mind.

But no, Clover was tossed into sharing a room with not only one, but two of her sisters. Of course her parents thought that the three girls deserved to be smushed into one room together. Henry, her oldest brother, got a room to himself. This caused Clover to be very possessive with her things, regardless of the fact that she was going to have to share them eventually, anyway. It wasn’t like most of the things that she owned had not belonged to everyone else in the house at one time anyway, save her mother and father. And for all she knew, the hairbrush she had been given for her birthday had belonged to Mrs. Hainsworth many moons ago.

Coming from such a large family, Clover makes friends fairly easily. Although she keeps many aspects of her life to herself, such as the fact that she used to have a pet snake that she named “P” because that’s all she could say at the time, the girl is pretty open around strangers. Even when it comes to speaking about her family, the fifteen year old loves to hold pointless conversations. She even once talked to a second year Hufflepuff for fifteen minutes about the color of the leaves by the lake as opposed to the hue of the foliage outside the windows of the Great Hall. The only time the girl would shy away from a conversation is if it seemed to be headed in the direction of something that may embarrass her. (Such as the fact that she used to own a pet snake.)

Unless she is in the middle of a good book, Clover will be very nice and courteous to anyone who happens to walk by, even a Slytherin. Especially a Slytherin, actually, as she is so terrified of their presence that she fears each and every one of them. Having heard so many tales of what a passing snake might do to a wayward and unknowing student from her siblings, Clover pretty much attempts to steer clear of them. If one happens to find Clover in the middle of a good read, he or she can pretty much guarantee that they will be totally and completely ignored. The Hainsworth will even tune out a passerby who appears to be having an entire conversation with her, in light of the novel she may be indulging herself in.

Clover is a very intelligent girl (or so she has been told by many of her professors thus far), and uses her brains to her advantage. She is very organized and keeps all of her papers and quills and such neatly packed away in a shoulder satchel at all times when she is not in her dorm room. She loves to build things, and even fashioned a few homemade candleholders for her mother and sisters one Christmas. Clover went home for that particular holiday, just so she could give her creations to her family. Her sister Rebecca is the artist of the family, and she absolutely loved what her sister had done. She even added a few colors to one of her own and presented it to Clover on her thirteenth birthday. Clover keeps the candleholder on the table beside her bed at Hogwarts.

She doesn’t have much of a temper, although nudging her the wrong way could strike a bit of a fire, as with anyone. There are not many ways to get her out of sorts, though talking down about her family is one of them. Her mother being half-blood and her father pureblood often brings up nasty remarks from others (mostly people with nasty personalities), and Clover is still trying to find ways to counter such things without having a shouting match – something she has gotten quite well at through ‘practices’ with her siblings.

Family:
Mother: Lindsay Hainsworth
Father: Reginald Hainsworth
Brother: Spencer Hainsworth, age 21, Slytherin Graduate
Sister: Ethelda Hainsworth, age 19, Gryffindor Graduate
Brother: Kaiden Hainsworth, age 18, Hufflepuff Graduate (twin)
Brother: Kurtis Hainsworth, age 18, Ravenclaw Graduate (twin)
Sister: Rebecca Hainsworth, age 17, Gryffindor
Cousin: Judy Kennicot, age 16, House unknown

*Note: Judy's house is unknown because I can't remember if someone ever agreed to play her or not. -_-; I know Miko used to play Rebecca, but I can't remember about Judy for the life of me. And if somebody *did*, then the last name probably isn't right. >> BUT I DON'T CARE. Yarr. :P

Years of Study:
Clover has been a student at Hogwarts since age ten.

Miscellaneous:
I... can't think of anything right now.

Part IV: The Future:

Character Plots:
  • Do you have any plots in mind for your character?
    No? That's kind of pathetic.
  • Does your character have any significant relationships (either with current PCs or NPCs that you'd like to see become PCs)? What are the nature of these relationships?
Nothing 'significant' other than her siblings - and her sister Rebecca is the only sibling that would probably still be attending school right now. Although, with the changes, it's always possible that the twins started late, or that they were a little slower than everybody else (i.e. skipping class a lot more than they should), so they may well still be at Hogwarts, too.
  • If your character has significant relationships with NPC characters as developed through your biography, are you looking for players for these characters?
Not particularly, unless Miko wants to play Rebecca again. :) - I might one day in the future see if someone wants to play one of the twins, depending on how that works out.
Character Development:
  • Where would you like to see your character go in the future?
In the future-future, I see her teaching at Hogwarts, or possibly going into the wand-making business. Her future's looking kind of boring right this second.
  • Are there any aspects of your character that you particularly look forward to exploring?
I really want to get her out of her introverted and bookwormy shell, and have her do something fun for a change! Maybe it will change her personality, who knows?
Part V: The Writing:

Do I really hafta?

Part VI: Out of Character:

Name: Kea
Prior RPG Experience? Um... alot.
How did you find Chapter Thirteen? I can't remember?
Contact Information: It's in Clover's profile. ^^ (Because I'm lazy.)

Yay! :D Just a couple of little things:

History:
--Could you maybe give me a little more background on the town that Clover grew up in, so I can wrap my mind around it a bit better? The only reason I ask is because of the school which would probably be fairly typical in a wizarding town, but not in a muggle one (girls being taught to read/write would probably have been taught to do so by their parents, vs going somewhere to learn).

--Also, what else kept her busy (other than school)?

--Just instead of commenting in the thread in the OOC (and since it's not particularly relevant here) - students actually still do receive Hogwarts letters, just so they know if they've got in or not. However, they don't have to take the school up on the offer, or attend right away, or whatever. In Clover's case, if it was fairly obvious that she was magical as a child (vs her parents being worried that she was a squib), she'd probably be sent away by her parents before she got her letter just because it's not like they don't already know about the school. XD They'd have just written ahead or something, so the profs knew she was coming.

--Also, just a couple of little things based off of the changes. Since the school year technically doesn't have a 'beginning', there's no opening feast, and sortings are a more private affair. I'm sure that people would figure out her House quickly, and that the HOH would take the new students up to the common room and show them around (and whatnot XD I haven't filled this in yet, so this is totally my fault. Sorry!). Also, no BAD exams. (:

--How often does Clover return home for breaks? (Just since you mention her siblings being home when she finds out that she'll be allowed to enter Hogwarts early.)

And a couple of little things in the physical:

-"Her blonde locks are not too long, not too short." This doesn't really tell me how long her hair is, though ;)

-Also, glasses at this point in time were a) expensive and b ) not particularly attractive. The first wearable eyeglasses were invented in 1284 in Italy (according to the good ol' reliable Wikipedia :P ), though the earliest record of the whole concave-lens making letters larger thing was written down around 1021. While wizards probably had a little more information than muggles, and could feasibly have developed their own equivalent sooner than the 1280s, they'd probably have still been pricey and uncomfortable. Just something to consider. (:

Mm, I guess that makes sense. :)

And I thought about the whole sorting and Opening Feast, thing, but was a little shady as to whether it would still be done at the school the way it is now. At least that's all cleared up. :D

I'll get onto cleaning that up and answering your other questions in a bit. ^^

Yeah, I need to add something into the FAQ/Differences/whatever thread to clear that up.

Let me know when you've finished (:
