INTRODUCTION



is a long-established school near Land's End in the south west of England. It is situated on the coast near a seaside town and was built in the 1800s. Originally, it was a boys-only boarding school, but in 1956 it became a mixed school, allowing both boys and girls. The school is surrounded on all sides by huge rolling lawns that stretch as far as you can see - apart from at the rear of the school, where there is a sandy beach and the seashore. Within the school grounds are a sports field, tennis courts, an outdoor swimming pool and a forest. The forest is not out of bounds to students, except after curfew, when they must remain within the main perimeters of the building.

The speciality subject at the school is Musical Theatre, although it isn't a compulsory subject and about a third of the school do not take this subject. Anyone wishing to take the main Musical Theatre course along with their other academic subjects is eligible to audition for a scholarship - to have either a quarter, a half or all of their fees paid for them.

FACILITIES


Outdoor Swimming Pool
The outdoor swimming pool sits near the beach. It can be heated in winter. The pool should not be used before 7am or after 9pm (10pm in summer).


Indoor Swimming Pool
The indoor swimming pool can be heated or cooled. The pool should not be used before 6am or after 10pm.


Steam Room
The steam room is located just off from the main pool area. It follows the same hours as the pool.


Gym
The gym is located in the basement, below the Sports department. It is fully equipped. A teacher must be present if anyone in the Pre-Freshman or Freshman years wishes to use the equipment. The gym should not be used before 6am or after 9pm.


Tennis Court & Football/Basketball Court
The tennis court and football area are located within the grounds. The courts should not be used before 7am or after 9pm.


Volleyball Courts
A sand-covered court for volleyball, situated at the area behind the House buildings. A hose is provided for cooling down the sand on hot days.
The courts should not be used before 7am or after 9pm.


Games Room
The games room contains games consoles, dartboards, pool tables and various board games. As well as this, each house has its own common room with a TV, video/DVD player, games console and music systems.


Play Park
A children's play park, mainly for the amusement of the younger students but frequented by all. Located near the House buildings


Mini Golf
A mini golf course located between the House buildings and the Play Park.

SCHOOL LIFE


Front Entrance
The front entrance of the school is visible from the main road. Students can check in and seek help at the reception desk. All visitors should report to the desk. Students must sign in and out when leaving or returning after an outing.


Dining Room
The dining room is in the main building and is where all meals are served. All students and staff eat together and have no fixed place.


House Buildings
The House buildings are located near the tennis court and are each three floors high. They contain the dormitories, study and common rooms for each house.


Study
Each house has its own study with three computers - each with internet access and games. There is also plenty of workspace for homework and coursework.


Common Room
There is a common room and kitchen in each House building. Students tend to spend more time pursuing their various interests around the school, so the common room will more than likely be empty if you wish to be alone.


Dorm Room
Two people share each dorm room, which are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. You will be paired with the first same-sex person of the house to apply. The rooms are basically furnished but you may bring your own furniture to add to it.


Staff Quarters
Staff members have their own room in the main building, basically furnished and with their own kitchen, lounge and bathroom.

GROUNDS


Terrace
Relax and enjoy the view from the terrace.


The Shelter
This is the best viewpoint from which to look out across the beach and the sea.


The Forest
The forest lies within the school grounds and is full of natural wildlife and plants. Great for nature lovers and perfectly safe.


The Gardens
The gardens are mainly grassy with planting around the edge. They are situated next to the lawns, on which many students like to play lawn games and relax.


Path to the Beach
The main path to the beach is surrounded by gardens and is situated to one end of the main grounds.


Beach
The beach is sandy and equipped with sun loungers and deckchairs. The water is clear and safe to swim in. The beach is private as it is within the school grounds and is owned by the school. The beach should not be used before 7am or after 9pm, except for pre-arranged parties.
