Miles had been back at school little more than an hour and he was already scribbling away at his notebook. He'd unpacked, put everything in its place then picked up his pen. His fingers were inky, as usual, and he was bent so far over the pages that his glasses kept slipping down his nose. His stomach grumbled and he realised that he hadn't eaten since leaving home, which was, according to US time, yesterday. He wondered, all of a sudden, if Nejelko had arrived yet. The other boy had not been on his flight this time around, so Miles hadn't had someone keeping check on whether he ate and drank properly.

He pulled his mobile from under the pillow and fired off a text. Within seconds of it being sent, he got a reply. Hastily he put his papers together and capped his pen, placing both that and the notebook under his pillow. Absently pushing his glasses up onto his head, he left the room, tucking his keys in his pocket as he went.

Once he and Vanilla had finished talking on the beach, Stevie put his t-shirt and flip-flops back on, picked up his towel and began to head back up towards his dorm. Vanilla was gorgeous, Stevie thought, but he wasn't sure if the younger boy was even remotely interested in him, so he thought he would leave if for a while to see what was going to happen. That didn't stop him thinking some highly inappropriate thoughts, though...

Arriving at the dorm, he noticed that there was now a second name on the door sign. The door was locked, so he unlocked it and entered to find it empty. However, the other boy had clearly unpacked before going wherever it was he had gone, so Stevie had a bit of a nosy round before lying out on the bed and turning on the television.

Nejelko had insisted in taking him down into town and buying him food. So now, Miles returned to the dorm a little later than he had planned. He chewed on his thumbnail as he climbed the stairs. It was all a bit worrying that he was starting to develop something deeper than a 'silly crush' on Nej. In his book best friends were so out of bounds. Plus there was also the small fact that Nejelko was straight.

Miles sighed, sliding the key into the lock before he even realized the door was alreaddy unlocked. He pushed the door open, starting slightly when he noticed the other boy. Even though the fact that the door had been unlocked should have alerted him to the fact that his roommate was home.

'Hey.' He smiled gently at the other boy, crossing to sit on his own bed, leaning back against the wall. 'I'm Miles. I would shake your hand but-' He held his hands up for inspection. '-I'm ashamed of their inkiness.' He blushed slightly.

Stevie didn't look up immediately when he heard the door, instead waiting to see if anyone actually bothered to come in. When he did look round, he saw a tall boy who was possibly older, and who seemed to have ink all over his hands. With a smile, he watched the boy moving across the room and listened to what he had to say. "Don't worry about it," he said in reply to Miles' comment about the state of his hands. "I'm such a messy writer - even one sentence gets me covered in ink!" He laughed at his own inability to stay clean.

"I'm Stevie, I'm a junior here. I'm from the Netherlands already but, as you can probably tell-" he said in his strong Lancashire accent "-I've lived in England for a while." He sat up and leaned back against the pillows at the top of the bed so that he could get a better view of his new roommate.

'Its a cool accent. Better than this dumb old Montanan one I have. I'm always writing, so you'll probably never see my hands un-inky.' He laughed, quietly. 'So umm, what are you studying. I mean... are you on a full Musical Theatre Scholarship or what?'

Miles wondered absently where he'd put his glasses, untill he tried pushing his hand through his hair. Untangling them from his locks, he placed them on the nightstand.

Stevie listened with interest - now that Miles had mentioned, Stevie realised that he wasn't in fact English but actually American. "I'm taking the ND but I'm not getting all of it paid. Both my brothers are here, too. You can't miss Jack, he has about ten colours in his hair and lots of piercings - emopants, anyone?" he finished with a laugh, knowing that despite appearances, Jack was actually a very cheerful individual and not even slightly emo.

"Ash is just very short. He's our half-brother, and half-Spanish so he's all tanned." Reaching over to the bedside table, he picked up his bandana and put it on. Having his hair in these plaits was all well and good, but they had a tendency to get in his way on a regular basis. Because of this, he'd built up quite a collection of bandanas and headbands to keep his hair in order. "How about you, what are you studying?"

'Me? I'm doing an ND musical theatre and Media Studies. I hope to be a writer one day. I mean a known writer. I already do write...' He trailed off, realising how dorky he must be sounding. 'Your hair is really cool by the way. Nej will probably go nuts over it.'

It was only after he'd said this that Miles realised that Stevie probably had no idea who Nejelko was. Though, quite how someone managed to miss the Lincoln Senior he didn't know.
