Hey ivar... Thanks for posting and visiting the forum.

Well, the project is currently paused until we find a good and dedicated 3D Artist and Animator for in-game characters. You can also help as well, by finding one of course. smile.gif

Thanks,
Nebo

paused? i think artists want to see a better demo without art. i'm not so sure if 3 models and 1 textured quad is enough. in the demo there was more art than gameplay. only thing that was worth to see was mouse picking and animated gui. they wanna see a playable game with no art. billboarding would be really nice for a demo what's looking for a decent artist.

Yea, you are probably right. Our coder is stubborn and won't continue working without an animator... I was trying to explain the same thing to him but he won't listent.

I hope your words make him change his mind wink.gif

who's the manager of this project? you? why do you have a project manager? why projects have managers? what is manager's job? managers are used to avoid situations like that. you are not partners who can argue. you are the project manager and he's the lead coder. you need to have the vision of finished game. you need to make sure that lead coder and lead artist will get their job done. you need to keep team's morale up. you decide if you need aditional artist or a coder.

if coder can't test his animation code without an animated model i'm sure you can get him one somehow. and all other placeholders with specific features too if needed.

well ivarbug, the demo on the site is not updated. The lastest has a peasant moving (with animation) and avoiding buildings. i am in my graduation year now.. if there is artist(s) willing to work, i will complete working. I will not risk my effort.

You've got a new demo? Upload it! smile.gif

Programmer's risk? lol. Artists can be ripped off, not programmers. If your game is good enough it will find some good art sooner or later. Artists don't want to risk it either. They have much bigger risk to loose their time, work and art.

Good job! Animation is nice although everything is reeaally fast. You should start using delta time or something(if you aren't). I didn't see any pathfinding sad.gif .Come on don't be shy. Carry on with it. wink.gif There is still lot of work to do.

You've already got some really nice art there. I love it!
If you finish a demo(a game with one level and with fewer options/units than original) and you still can't find any artists and have wasted all your effort for nothing, I'll be your artist. laugh.gif I promise.

If you have any updates don't forget to show it off to artists you are looking for(update the download link on your site).
And now when you got a new website up you should update your link in here too.

Freakin' nice gui/menu art. I'd kill for that.
Excellent! Keep it up! smile.gif

I am trying to explain him that we WILL find artists and that they risk too, but he still doesn't want to.

Maybe you should 1st do it in 2D with minimum graphics for a playable demo. Usually there is absolutely no difference between 2d and 3d rts. I once read somewhere it's a 3d remake of warcraft 2. In 2d you don't need to worry about 3d terrain, animation, mouse picking, frustum culling, etc - you can build 3d rts on 2d base.
I have tried to do 3d rts several times. I have never got further than pathfinding. It just gets too messy for me. Finally I had frustum culling, terrain lod, texture splatting, perfect 3d mouse picking, terrain editor, fancy gui system and no motivation to continue.
I think people want something to play with and something that's fun. I'd like to see a intelligent red square more than a worker with nice skeletal animation. In 3d there can be LOT of work with no visible results.
Actually by "2d" I mean game logic 1st, then graphics. Of course that can be done in 3d too tongue.gif

That was just a quick thought smile.gif .You should just get it done somehow. No matter how long it will take.
