These are just going to be some basic guides to use when starting the IRC. To join the chatroom, click here.

Basic IRC Commands
Here are some of the basic commands you might find useful in IRC.

(slash)me (action)
Chatzilla displays a message that tells you performed an action. For example, if I were to type "(slash)me throws a Poké Ball", it would say Hedge throws a Poké Ball. NOTE: Replace (slash) with a /.

/nick (nickname)
Changes your nickname. For example, if Boltage were to type "/nick Dark_Boltage", his name would become "Dark_Boltage."

/quit (message)
Quits IRC. You don't have to type a message, but many users type funny quit messages. Or just random ones. For example, if Kirbop were to type "/quit Advice of the day: Never trust the schizophrenic jaguar", it would say that Kirbop has quit, then display that message.

Refs, Judges, and Staff can use an additional set of commands, which I will discuss with them personally.

What do the Symbols Mean?
AccessIRC (the IRC network that hosts the chatroom) uses certain symbols to identify higher ranking users in a chatroom. Here's a quick review of them.

~: Only one person can have this. The ~ symbol stands for the channel founder, who will be the one who created the channel. In the case of #BPRPG, this will be myself, though on IRC I'm known as "Spinballwizard." (mode: +q)

&: Staff will be given this symbol, which stands for "Admin." Admins can't be kicked from the room, but otherwise have generally the same permissions as operators (see below). (mode: +a)

@: Judges are given the @ symbol, which stands for channel (chatroom) operators. Ops (as they're called) have the privilege to kick and or ban users from the room as well as to change the room's topic. The founder (~) and Admins (&) are also operators. (mode: +o)

%: Refs are given the % symbol, which stands for a "Half-Op." Half-Ops are able to kick regular users, but not operators. (mode: +h)

+: The plus sign stands for "voice," and its only function is to determine who can talk in the room when the chat is +m (muted/moderated). (mode: +v)

All other users have no symbol.

Registering Your Nickname
This isn't necessary (unless you want to ref in #BPRPG), but it can be useful to prevent people from stealing your name. To register, all you need to do is type:

/ns register (password) (your email)

An email will be sent to you asking for you to confirm. Follow the instructions in the email.

Next, type "/ns identify (password)" -- it will accept your nickname as identified. Now go to Tools/Options, and go to the irc.accessirc.net option on the left. Go to the Lists tab, and under Auto-Perform, click Add, then type "ns identify (password)". This way, you don't have to type your password when you start Chatzilla. (If you don't want to do this, you can still enter your password with "/ns identify (password)")

If someone else is using your nickname (or if you disconnected and reconnected with a different name), it's best to have a name linked to yours. Before this happens, type "/ns link (nickname)". This nickname should be different from yours, but should be similar. This way, you can join the channel by changing your name to this one, and identify it (it will use the same password). Then type "/ns ghost (your other name)". The other person will automatically quit. You can then change your name back to yours.
