Today was Thursday, feeding day for the geckos. Now as you might have heard, Nanaimo BC got a dumpload of snow over the past few days, and people here don't really like to shovel snow. I bussed it out to the mall near to where Petsmart is, got off the bus and looked over to where the sidewalk.... was. All there was, was snow. So I walk to Chapters, thinking their sidewalk would be shoveled. Nope. Only the little bit by the doors. I walk on the side of the road to the crosswalk, almost getting run over a couple of times. cross the crosswalk, walk on the side of the road to the lights. Going through a HUGE puddle (more like a lake). I come to the lights, trudge trough the show to get to the button thingy to change the lights. Push it, nothing works, so I go to push it again. As soon as I turn my back the walk signal comes on, so I bound out of the snow, coming close to falling on my arse. Walk across the road, trying to get to the other side before the light goes green and I am fair game to be roadkill. I make it to the other side, and the light changes for me to cross again. I cross, get over to where the sidewalk was supposed to be. There is a 4ft mound of snow there, only a foot smaller than me. I look at the snow, a car comes up. I bound over the bank, trying to clear it. Failed, landing on my arse. The guy in the car was laughing his head off. And I don't blame him. I eventually get over the bank, and trudged to the plowed parking lot. Walked the remaining distance to the store. My butt and feet soaked. I reach the store, walk in. The guy I get the crickets from spots me. "Your in for crickets, right?" I nodd my head with the little energy I had left. "I don't think we don't have any. They all froze to death." I just about cried. But, he said he would go to the back and see if he could ind me 30 that were still alive. I look up to the sky and pray that he does. Cause if not, I would have 5 pairs of hungry eyes looking at me. Glen comes out with 3 bags of crickets, each having the right number of crickets in them. I bounded over to him and gave him the biggest hug I could. Thanking him for making the trip worth while.
I have often told my friends I would do anything for my reptiles, today, has proved it....
This is why I love snakes. Their food is right in the freezer, all I have to do is walk to the freezer to get the mice.
