| QUOTE (Zeratanus @ Apr 7 2012, 02:13 PM) | Apparently Kinkade has died.
I'd be happier, but that actually means his 'artwork' will be even more pointless than it ever was, and probably wont stop being popular. ugh.
well, that and he's not one of the people i'd actually be happy to see die (Lookin at you, Rush Limbaugh), but yeah :B |
I'm assuming you mean Thomas Kinkade?
If so, then yeah. Guy was a pompous ass; wanted to be considered the most important artist of the 20th century because he made the most money.
Bitch please. Pollock was poor and an alcoholic in his final years, even had to sell a painting to a clerk for a bag of groceries. He didn't become famous and revered until after his death. And he was a better and more innovative painter than Kinkade could have ever been.
Now I'm not saying Kinkade's work is bad, it's just meh. There's nothing to it. It's selling idealized landscapes. It's around the same level as Bob Ross: loveable?, but nothing that personifies the confrontation of modern art.
EDIT: Just found out Kinkade has a gallery about 30 minutes away. Better stay the eff away from that town for a few days.

So, given that a very great deal of us aren't from the US and probably thusly don't eat our shit, this isn't that big - but Hostess is going out of business. That's the Twinkie guys. http://www.washingtonpost.com/business/hos...76e2_story.htmlIn a nutshell, Unions went on strike because Hostess was going to implement an 8% paycut. Hostess went "nope" and shut down, so now 18,000 people are now jobless. GJ. And uh While I of course am concerned about how A) 18,000 jerbs have just gone up in a puff of smoke, and 2) America was fucking stupid, again... really, the majority of my interest in this thing is the fat fuck that consumes my thoughts going "FUCK, where am I gonna get Ho Hos now??"

Well, one of the factories on the news was the Indiana plant, where my dad worked about a year and a half ago.
Hostess was a doomed company for many reasons, namely that they couldn't manage their assets and, as much as I cringe to say this, probably overpayed their employees.
Hostess never innovated, or tried to chance with the times. To the company, they were twinkies, fat guys, and rednecks, and that was a-okay with them. They were paying everyone in the Indiana factory 16 dollars an hour, bottom, for manual labor with no risk, like janitor or putting bread into a box. For references, in Indiana this kind of job would be paying only 8-9 dollars ish an hour. Hostess, along with the rest of the Indiana plants, like to pay a lot of money for manual labor. It's why people were upset when the auto plants shut down here. But I digress.
Hostess went through something in the range of 6 CEO's since 2001, and none of them could implement the change necessary to change the company around, so they began to cut healthcare and wages, something that was ripping the company apart due to their negligence and stupidity. Of course, no one likes going from well above the min. average pay and going below it, so they protested, and Hostess said "Come to work, or we're shutting down the plant." they never came to work, so the plant was shut down yesterday.
Damn shame of a mess. Hostess is pretty much all to blame, though if I were those workers, I would've gone in to work and still earned something, instead of protesting and earning nothing.
And don't fret Blue, Wal-mart or some other brand will buy out the names once they go on auction to help pay for the massive debt that Hostess is in.
